You do realise Mcgovern has played just 1 more senior game than Charlie Curnow ?HF:
Mitch McGovern is being targetted for one reason only -
Leadership in the forward line because we have ZERO.
i also share your concerns about us overlooking our needs of small forwards and outside runners for another key forward.
but mcgovern is underrated by a lot of people because he's had to play 3rd fiddle to tex and jenkins and imo he's more talented than both. him being in the team will release charlie up the field where he could be a 20 possession 10 mark a game player like prime riewoldt instead of parking him in the forward line like we have been. of course there's no way that we should be emerging from the mcgovern deal without pick 1.
i think he's more talented than tex. tex is a great field kick but mcgovern a better mover, a better mark and he's clutch. twice he's kicked high pressure set shots at the end of crows games (vs pies and power).MM is surely more talented than Jenkins.
I think he's ideal for us at the right price.
I would hate to be the opposition defensive coach trying to stop Harry, Charlie, MM and then Cripps drifting forward. All take can a grab, quick and good below their knees. Absolute f***ing nightmare.
Don't worry about small forwards. They can be picked up late in the draft, as rookies and in State Leagues. There are plenty of fish in that ocean. Agresta and co will be all over that.
He seems to be exactly what we are after. What is your reservation here BrisbaneCFC ? Are you thinking Lukosios ?
We have Picket sps Murphy Wright Garlett for crumbsMy question is, would McKay, Curnow and McGovern provide enough ground level pace, chase and pressure?
I know they are all good for their size but elite pressure and good for their size pressure are a fair way apart.
We're very slow and poor with run all over the board but especially up forward, just wondering how we are going to go about creating this.
Why don’t we have a single effective one on our list then?Don't worry about small forwards. They can be picked up late in the draft, as rookies and in State Leagues. There are plenty of fish in that ocean. Agresta and co will be all over that.

SPS is the only one of that group that could be an effective small forward but we need up further up the fieldWe have Picket sps Murphy Wright Garlett for crumbs
Could we recruit dan MenzelPicket - doesn't seem to get fit enough and haven't seen him provide pressure or much in the way of crumbing.
Garlett - finished in the VFL because he just does not chase or tackle.
Murphy - getting older and slower, not sure he's a forward. Does not chase well or tackle well.
SPS - good up and coming player but not elite quick.
Wright - Not quick at all, does not provide much pressure.
Fisher and Polson are the only players who use their pace in our side, the rest either don't have it or don't use it.
Why don’t we have a single effective one on our list then?
Hear the same thing about mids every draft/trade period. It can’t be that easy or everyone would be doing it.
If we are going to be happy upgrading our 3rd-4th tall each draft period, we will never be done. If there is someone available that turns Harry into the third tall, pull the trigger.Because our strategy was get "talls" sorted first - and IMHO done a darn good job in the circumstances.
Patience Grasshopper..........
j-man goes full exploded quote - rare as a blue moon and equally impressive.........Think you're being overly dramatic.
We don't even know whether he wants to come to Carlton, let alone what we'll need to give up (financially and assets) to bring him across.
And we certainly don't have a firm grasp on who else we want to bring to the club, and who may be available.
Let's see how things unfold, then we can assess whether we had the required assets to bring in our targets.
I think we've all thought over the past few yeas that we need more fire power up in the forward line.
That he can play down back too is a bonus.
We are crying out for more quality all over the park, including up forward.
We do have other needs too, I'm sure the club is well aware of where things are at and where we can improve.
You don't have to be happy, but personally if it comes through I am pleased we'll have added a good dangerous forward, who has his best year ahead of him.
We've got plenty of cash available, I hardly think this is a concern.
We're not going to price ourselves out of a gun footballer by bringing in McGovern.
You can never have enough quality. I am not in favor of giving up pick one in a trade for him, but if we get a PP I'd be very pleased to bring Mitch in effectively for free.
Anybody interested in the following midfielders that were delisted?
Barlow
Toumpas (Pick 4 in 2012 draft)
Freeman (Pick 10 in 2013 draft)
Drafting all 3 (if fit) would add some nice midfield depth and they would cost practically nothing.
Just imagine Toumpas teaming up with Cripps in the guts! It would be unreal! Judd and Cousins, Cripps and the Toumpas! Carlton would be top 4 favouritesAnybody interested in the following midfielders that were delisted?

No thanks. All three have had a second chance and they're done. Freeman is the only slight possibility and considering our injury issues this year it would be madness to pick up a guy like him.Anybody interested in the following midfielders that were delisted?

So given Toumpas is rubbish, you're saying that Cripps by himself is just as good as Judd and Cousins combined.Just imagine Toumpas teaming up with Cripps in the guts! It would be unreal! Judd and Cousins, Cripps and the Toumpas! Carlton would be top 4 favourites
How many times did you see any of them crumb this year?We have Picket sps Murphy Wright Garlett for crumbs
He honestly looks like he doesn't even care, has no passion whatsoever. He doesn't deserve to pull on the navy blue jumper as far as I'm concerned.
When you look at Polson last night, who probably has less natural ability than Lang, he tried his bloody guts out the whole game. Then you look at Lang who is just jogging around in circles looking completely disinterested, it makes me sick.
i have feared for his safety at times and sure enough hes was knocked out a few weeks ago same applied to Fisher who puts his body on the line against bodies perhaps definately 20 kgs heavier.
Samo
Fisher
Polson
Harry
De Konning
all need to do a lot of weights this summer !!
