Well week 1 of the trade period and this has been extremely entertaining:

  • Melbourne fans still very salty about not(?) losing their best forward
  • Vic media furious that we are not doing what they expect us to do
  • Brisbane fans disappointed at us with Neale looking less and less likely and telling us that players won't want to be traded their in future (because Brisbane is the destination of choice for most players)
  • West Coast fans annoyed at a perceived play for Kelly (which is made up anyway but giving the Geelong fans on trade board some ammo to go back at them)
  • and I learnt that "amateur hour" means when you don't negotiate poorly and give the other side exactly want they want:think:
Can't wait for next week

Fantastic synopsis!

I don't think we're taking the right approach here. We're trying to lowball and go for 'steals', just pay fair value ffs, these players are going to come in and play for your club and the club screws them around playing stupid games.

So many fans are revelling in our contested attitude towards trade week - perhaps the club should focus on getting better at the contest on the football field and just act like professionals and get the deals done during trade week.

We walked away from the McCarthy deal a year before he came to us. We were right to.

If you care more about WC and Freo argy bargy than actual club success.

It's not unfair, it's dumb. I'm ok with not getting Kelly in 2019, but if a self destructive list management strategy is what you want, buckle up I suppose.

1. I don't
2. Buckle up for what? You bidding on players wanting to come to WA? Go for it. It's a 50/50 proposition for us at the very best anyway. Players that want the Dockers or the Eagles will stay that way. Players that don't care would go to the best bidder regardless.

OK, firstly this is the most stressful trade period ever as far as I'm concerned. Secondly it's not over yet but Bell better have a very good plan.

IF Hogan had significant red flags and we just backed the truck up and got out of there then I'm fine with that.
Otherwise IF as reported Melbourne would have taken a top 5 pick and a second for Jesse then we should just do it or should I say work towards getting the picks to do it.

Now as far as Neale goes, Belly needs to realise he doesn't want to stay and we should work to getting a pick 5 plus something kind of deal.
Keeping Lachie now would be a bad outcome imo but we do need to get value for him.

And secondly if Lyon did say that back a few years ago it was actually true. At that point in his life he wouldn't make it because he wasn't putting in the effort - hence why none of the 18 clubs drafted him until last year. Surprise surprise he pulls his finger out and dominates WAFL and gets a call up to AFL. He should be thanking Lyon for telling him the truth not despising him.
Kelly is bailing on Geelong after a year, when they were the ones who not only gave him the chance but gave him full game time in a star-studded midfield. I have no major love for Ross, but maybe Kelly is a bit of a dick too.

Haseldby?
Unless he isn't being truthful when being asked about his time at Fremantle, he certainly doesn't seem to hold a grudge about anything. I think he has some concerns now which he is entitled to have, like all of us about the club we support. I would be interested to know if he got on the phone to vdw about his lack of professionalism in recent days.

Yeah but if we could have had 5 and 23 or whatever Brisbane held before they traded picks and we're holding out for 5 and 18 what are we doing? In my mind just being obstructionist. If a player doesn't want to be at the club get him out ASAP and move on. Other clubs are managing to get deals done on other players who want to leave and we're trying to play hardball.

All the best fighting the good fight with those muppets on the DT board.

Didn't know that, regardless, if that is his situation this isn't an industry you want to be petty in.

Lots of people work in jobs they hate to ensure their kids are provided for.
Completely agree. I work in a job I hate to ensure my mustang is provided for.

If Melbourne would of taken that sort if deal the Hogan trade would of already been announced.

Neale doesn't want to stay according to who? Barrett and co? Please. Even if that's true and we hold out until the death, we'll get close to or more than the compo we would receive at the end if next year. Taking pick 5 now doesn't improve our position at all. We either get around that and probably more by holding out or get a compo pick that would be similar at the end of next season. No loss at all.

I don’t think this is a situation of pettiness. Anyway, it will boil down to family and if we really have tabled an offer Geelong will want to deal with them he will be coming to us.
If he still holds a grudge against Lyon then it's petty.

Alistair Clarkson has to see Jeff Kennett every single week of his life, despite Kennett repeatedly saying he couldn't coach and threatening to sack him.

Well what is the job done?

Get Conca, Lobb? Keep Neale? Get Hogan? Not get Hogan? Get 4 picks inside 30?

Hard to judge but the first step of downgrading 6 was a very good deal, but it’s almost as if Freo think they need to fist every club in the trades they complete.

Personally I can’t understand how media aren’t going harder at Brisbane for only offering 5. If they could get the deal done I’m sure the ‘dominoes’ would fall.
That's pretty much my take as well.
Leaving all scuttlebutt on Hogan aside, Freo is not the first domino in this chain and it's a little difficult to understand why it's being assumed they are.

I don’t think it’s the job, it’s the not sleeping, the constant crying, the missus losing her shit because she’s getting even less sleep, the mountains of literal shit, dealing with the needs of the oldest child, mum and dad on skype, leaving them to get to training, living off a first contract. You need family for that.

I meant his rumoured refusal to go to Freo. If he wants out of Geelong because he has twins, fair enough. If he refuses to go to Freo because Lyon was mean to him three years ago, then I wonder how serious he is.
