Definetely think after losing Rockliff and 4 forwards off our list we are light on in certain areas. Don't know why they didn't go after a ready made mature player like Tim Kelly or Zac Langdon
Because you rebuild a list with 18/19 yo's not mature players with less longevity. Once we have to core of hopefully our net 10 years then you can look at FA's and mature draft picks

There would be a school of thought though that having been bereft of genuine hope for 14 years to get some experience in to win more than 1 in 3 games

When Fagan was appointed and the club embarked on the road of a full rebuild, Greg Swann specifically said that we'll want to get as much talent in as possible to achieve sustained success, rather than topping up. After these past years of poor performances, we don't want to improve to treading water only.

We’re also leading the poll. Big surprise.

I put it down to the amount of respect for Hodge because I can’t see us winning too many more games than last year.

You legitimately think we can't win more than 5 games?

Where did you get that idea from?

We might win 1 or 2 more games but we won’t be the biggest improvers. wouldn’t take a lot to go wrong for us to win only 5 again.

Ah, sorry misread your post.

I think we will improve a lot. I reckon 7+ wins, but the improvement will be in the likes of Hipwood, Andrews, McStay, Mayes and Taylor taking a big step forward while the likes of our 2-4 year players show real signs of development. Winning 7 games and pushing teams in 10 more would be a really good season for us.

I like how Fagan is giving other coaches a chance to take position of senior coach for the practice matches. Murray Davis last week, Dale Tapping this week, and Zane Littlejohn with the reserves. Good for their development.

He was the man who oversaw the Hawthorn senior coach factory.

Me too. I see a big future in Zane Littlejohn - he's a good coach to sit under Fagan and learn.

I think Essendon will be the big improver. Them and Melbourne will both jump into the 8.
Not if they get out of cycle recreational drug tested. You would think a club with their recent history might be more prudent.

They were in the 8 last year. Do you think they'll make top four?

I reckon Melbourne will make top 6 and Essendon will finish 7th or 8th.

So they did. Tough coming up against Sydney in the first week. I think they’ll improve. They’ve probably got the most midfield depth of any team. A good set of KPPs. The pressure forwards required for the modern game. Main question mark is their lockdown defenders.

Essendon were in the 8 last year but I'd agree. Think they'll climb it and Dees will come into the 8 with WCE dropping out.

West Coast probably in a similar position to North in recent years and I think a few older players who’ve performed well in strong teams will be found out. Like Darling.

Yeah that was good to see. I've noticed a lot of clubs and even ours doing it on previous occasions. Always thought it was good for the individual getting the experience but didn't even consider how much it would help Fagan by having a few coaches go through his role to understand more about the work that goes on and how they can improve as assistant coaches to make the senior coach gig a bit easier.

Really? They've got some okay outside mids but they will get destroyed inside the contest just like last season. They didn't do much to rectify that issue in the offseason with Saad and Smith coming in, although Stringer could make a difference in there if he gets his shit together. I don't see them as having better or comparable depth than most of the top teams through the middle.

...And the pre season is over. If you look at both the matches and how we played you could say it's a failure. If you go off the 'vibe' of the club then it sounds like a great team to be a part of. Hopefully they haven't got ahead of themselves?

Hawks, Lions and Geelong went 0-2 meanwhile Carlton and the Suns went undefeated. Reading anything into wins and losses in JLT would be a mistake imo.
Season hasn't even started so a bit early to be predicting the ladder for 2018? Who knows maybe Suns and Blues are top 8 teams? A lot of strange shit can happen just look at the past two premiers.
