I don’t get the Swans board. They’re convinced that they’ll get our first round pick for Hanneberry (many even believe so in a straight swap) yet only think they’ll get a second round pick, or even only a second round pick upgrade (to Gold Coast) for Lloyd.

Massively overrating one and underrating another.

Considering the terrible state of their salary cap and their need for a salary dump then they are also substantially overvaluing Hannebery.

If we walk away then they are stuffed.

He’s worth no more than a 2nd RDP if we take on 100% of his salary.

Seedsman for Longer?

More likely Dunstan imo but Sauce needs a backup.

Would do both but Seed OOC so should be cheap

Wants 4 years. Crows offered 3.

Normal human nature. If we traded Paddy as an example, many people would want a first round pick because of where he went in draft. Reality, opposes clubs would say otherwise..

We’re not getting top end talent this year. Why would they come to us?

However, we have money to spend, so let’s spend it on guys who are better than what we currently have in order to help us improve incrementally....at which stage we will then be able to attract the bigger names hopefully.

I agree as long as we don't blow first round picks on them, including downgrades, I'd rather we didn't use seconds either but at least we aren't blowing our chance to get a Dusty or Buddy ourselves.

I've heard a few say otherwise on here though.

We need top end talent not spuds though.
When did we go from no one will come to us because of our decline to being picky with experienced players nominating us.
If Lycett, Hanners and Seedsman want to come to us. Thats a huge haul from where were at. And will be a huge boost to our b22. Didnt really think anyone would want to come to us this year.
That + a 1st pick this year would be an amazing result.
Can see a big clean out happening this year. Dont be surprised if trade out another to get in another 1st too.

+ Menzel too
Thats alot of experience. I like it. Leadership void.

This thread is not filling me with great optimism regarding our 2018 list additions :(

Absolutely.
I didn’t want to downgrade 7 and 8 last year, and I definitely do not want to use this pick for anything other than 3/4 this year.
Hence the reason we are chasing out of contract players and hopefully won’t have to pay too much for Hannebury.

Clark & Coffield could've potentially become something similar to Cerra/Stephenson and Higgins/Kelly. Not unhappy with our result but it's not like we dodged a bullet

Never said we dodged a bullet. But I was very happy to get 2 high picks rather than trading them for a potential 3/4 and 19 for example. Personal choice.

We overachieved in 2016/7 and therefore missed out on some really top kids. Taking two last year and one this year at least makes up a little for this. We need as many top draft picks as possible. We’ve had a lot fewer than GC, GWS, Lions, Dees and Blues over the past 10 years....isn’t that why we’re constantly told we have no stars? Well, by not diluting these picks, we have a chance to get them.
