I don’t think we have an equally good option. Not Lynch. Gibbs and Sloane can push back, but not that intercepting marking that Gov gave us.

The positive thing is that we probably are going to squeeze Smith and Milera into the same team at the expense of elsewhere. Smith is quite good and Milera was developing that part of his game quite well. We may end up being a bit stacked in terms of those interceptors to start with and therefore cover an injury a tad easier.
Yes, my thinking is most of our defenders are a good intercept mark... including the Dude. Also, we our wingmen Seedsman, Gibbs or Gooch could push back. Greenwood is another option. Hopefully we try out different options early in the season

Brad Crouch has done similar, Greenwood would get a look, Would even look at McAdam if he playing.
McGovern moves to Carlton allows us to fully explore the extra midfielder in the team resting in the Forward line or pinch hitting in defence.

Don’t they already have Brisbane’s 1st round pick next year? But I do think the would like to have a future pick as part of the potential trade as it balances the picks across the two years nicely.
Yes, but there's every reason for them to want more.

Also, as of right now, I don't think Gold Coast can use pick 29, which they have. I really don't see them being too keen on more draft picks this year, so if a deal were to transpire, your future pick would be a no brainer.

They have their own and Brisbane's firsts, next pick is Richmond's 3rd round.

The rebuild needs to be over 3-4 drafts, so no doubt they will be looking for additional top 20 picks.

Pick 8 and our 2019 first may be enough for 3.

I’ve got a fear the AFL are going to put something together to stop the talent drain from Gold Coast.

Right just as they recruit some good SA kids.
It’s funny... this was exactly what they were alluding to on the ABC Gold Coast radio yesterday.. Stating that surely it’s time the AFL stepped in to stop the drain of talent from the Suns like the radio hosts had some inside info that it could be happening in the future.. and dickhead comments from that port knob certainly don’t help.

But when it comes down to it the AFL would have to make any rule cover every club and player... not only would the players association be against having a ruling restricting players from just one club only moving to another club but I’d say it wouldn’t stand up in court.

You couldn’t have a player playing for say WC asking to be traded home to victoria being allowed to do so.... but a player playing for the suns not being allowed to ask for a trade home because there’s a different rule covering the players at the suns.. it would be an unacceptable inequality.

If that makes sense..

So its OK for the AFL to tamper with the draft. There will come a day when someone challenges restraint of trade.

Won't happen. Player movement genie is out of the bottle.

Not even the AFL can cork it now.

Can some of you not renew your memberships we got people on the waiting list.

I’m fully aware we haven’t got things 100% right but **** me the negativity is at unbelievable levels.

Just chill out and let 2019 unfold - who knows it might surprise you.
I'm pretty sure half these "fans" are Poort trolls.

I believe that’s why the NRL doesn’t have a draft.. because they were going to implement one and the clubs took the league to court and challenged them on the basis of restriction of trade??..

I watch both codes these days and enjoy nrl nearly as much as AFL... Im at the point now where I’d rather the NRL model was used by the AFL.. No draft, no trade week... just a salary cap.

Seems to work fine in the NRL (with the odd salary cap issue here and there of course).... but ultimately if the entire reasoning behind having salary caps, drafts and trade weeks is to even up the competition and share the premiership cup around... well, I do believe the NRL has achieved this more often than the AFL in the past two decades.. proof is in the pudding right?...

My understanding is that it had nothing to do with salary cap pressures. We had the choice between Carey & Pavlich, and Ayres wanted to go with Carey. We didn't have the draft resources (i.e. players & picks) to get both, so the Senior Coach got his way.

Urban Myth

No, not a myth Colonel - just a very sad story.

Many years back I had the pleasure of spending an evening talking and drinking with Steve Pavlich who told me in detail of the happenings of 2002.

The Pavlichs were a very close family and desperately missed Matthew, who in turn was desperately home-sick.

At the end of 2002 he approached the Crows, saying that he wanted to come home to Adelaide, and would they request a trade from Freo for him to facilitate this.

He was told that the Club was concentrating at that time on a trade to get Carey to Adelaide and when that was completed, they'd get back to him, which they never did. Poor form and a huge mistake by Adelaide.

At the time he told me of the above, Matthew was heavily into a lass from Perth, and while Steve was still hoping Matthew would come home, he feared because of this that the battle was lost.

That proved to be the case and the rest is history.

Cool story bro.

No really. It’s a good story :) Thanks for sharing.

Hasn't been mentioned to my knowledge but Carlton may need some points if Ben Silvagni is bid on, Essendon have history in that regard with putting in a surprise bid on Jack. Ben with his extra height 194cm probably the better prospect of the brothers. Probably goes later or rookie, will Carlton do a Jarman, Edwards?

It won't be an outright ban, it'll be something more along the lines of an extra 20% in the salary cap.

Rabbit wrote off Milera saying he will never make it just as he was exploding into one of the most exciting young players in the game earlier this year. Did the same with Matt Crouch previously. He never fails to entertain!

Milera will dominate in 2019. Elite written all over him. Had a restricted preseason this year.

According to this board Adelaide has 20 elite players and 10 elite prospects plus Richard Douglas and David Mackay, objectivity is a foreign word

Back then was it Ayres that basically had the final call wanting Carey basically over Pavlich???
