I know it's probably been covered 50x this thread. But I don't understand why we'd ship a gun small mid for a volatile KPF who we already have multiple versions of: Blakey, McCartin, Franklin and (god willing) Reid
Its our M.O to recruit high profile forwards...very marketable and gets numbers through the turnstiles...not to mention it is the most important position.

Plus i imagime mccartin will become kpd full time this year

Ironic that out of Lockett, Buddy and Barry Hall, Hall was the one that we won a flag with.

How about we look at the Hawthorn example of what happens when you chase injury affected draft picks: Scully, O'Meara, Wingard

And boot out Hanners who we could not get fit. Oh well. At least Jo is a great young man and is not playing Moneyball.

Just out of curiosity what is a fair trade between Sydney and Carlton for Papley. I know he’s just recently met a clause to re-sign till 2023 but does he have to honour it. Sydney have always been very good trading players. Mitchell for 14. Pick 13 for two seconds last year to help Carlton with McGovern. Surely we’d do this deal easily if he wants to come back to Vic and Carlton.

I think 8 for papley and a late second would be fair. Or maybe you would prefer next year’s first for papley.

Or maybe Carlton has to wait another 4 years when he finishes his contract?

True that could happen. But we both know that you aren’t getting a first rounder for a 30 year old papley. And we will just move our chips towards someone else. Apparently butler and gray are our fall backs. What gets it done fairly is my question?

Yer still think mccartin will do a Pre season in defence

He likes the position more by reading his comments and will do what the team needs and let’s be honest he probably isn’t getting a game befor buddy and Daniher in the front half

Aliir , Rampe and mccartin in defence

I think he is a defender long term

But either way super talent hope he converts the potential

Given:
he is contracted,
and we have not one other good small fwd,
he is our leading goalkicker,
with a family history at the club,

It would take a monumental offer IMHO. Even if he had asked for a trade (which he hasn't as far as anyone knows) he seems the type who would just get on with it and play if we told him we need him too much.
Gray would be a better target for you. Haven't Port already said they'll send him somewhere? Too easy.

I mean... we could keep him in the side.

Agreed. Huge chance it could be a Tippett type deal again. Silly to put a huge amount of eggs in one basket for an injury riddled 'star'

If he leaves as a free agent they will get pick 20 something probably

We give them cap space and a pick

They should thank us

Personally, I think Pick 8 plus 2020 2nd rounder will get it done IF Paps makes the request. Swan hold all the cards so I think it will be pick 8 plus steak knives at the very least.
