Given their finishing position, the compo would suck. I think they've been clearing the decks to be able to match, even if only for a trade to be done.

It sounds like he'll re-sign for them , I'd imagine it'll be 3-400 K less than we would offer. They've been clearing the decks to get him a juicy financial carrot on top of being a flag contender.

Had a good look at trade targets, free agents and general list management strategy with Dan:

List has Phillips as having only played 9 games.

Absolutely. Carlton for $1.4m or GWS for $1m. He would stay. If they only offered $800km, that's $7m vs $4m over 5 years.

$7m vs $5m though, that's 71% of our offer which gets the job done.

Some good stuff.

Can't see Kennedy or Cottrell going.

Think Ellis would be an awesome addition off HB
Darcy Cameron I've been calling for all year
NO to Dickson IMO

Don't get the comments about Coniglio. Cost picks and a big body?
Papley yes but just can't see it

Yeah, I think Coniglio is more on the loyal side of the ledger than the mercenary . You never know though.

Nat Fyfe is on Game Day. Any way we could get him. Would be an awesome fit with Crippa and Doc taking these kids forward. Word is he wanted to cross to a Melbourne based club a year or so ago for his outside football interests.

Great video and love the inclusions and the rationale behind them, but just a few things:

*Garlett not Gartlett
*Coniglio is a Free Agent (although the point stands that we would likely need to still trade for him after the Giants match)
*Darcy Cameron is out of contract and will need to be traded for.
*McGovern is missing from your final best 22 and given what we’ve paid to get him, he should be playing.

Also on a side note: the guy in the pink looks eerily like a young Chris Pelchen!

The final 22 he come up with just seemed to be a mish mash of his favourite players and a bit all over the shop to me. Seemed all a bit random to fit his favourites in.

Just cant see Coniglio or Papley happening as much as I want them in navy blue.

If the rumours of Papley wanting to come back to VIC are true I think we're right in the mix.

At only 22 he wouldn't have to worry so much about joining a bottom team as say Coniglio who is older.
If he sees our potential he'll know he can rise with our team and enjoy some success.

29 next year. Gun but NO. Cost way too much for what we would get. The focus needs to be on the Taranto types that have a decade ahead of them. If we are to chase a big body I would target Taranto Atley Constable Worpel Hatley Brodie Drew types that could all play straight away.

1. Who are the best small forwards in the AFL?
2. Were they originally midfielders or have they always been small forwards?
Beside the point, it still all boils down to the best way to approach the trade situation to improve the side. Not many small forwards have Eddie Betts level output. There's other ways to generate goals other than having some b-grade crummer around the place who can't do anything else.

That's unfortunate!

As a former Captain I think he deserves a bit more respect.

If any of Murphy Simpson Thomas play on next year I reckon it needs to be of the understanding that they won't play all games and may have to play games in the 2's. With the new additions we will hopefully have next year needs to be about our next great team and having Kruezer Curnow Cripps Docherty Jones in most best 22's (plus our younger players ready to step up) we have enough experience

Don't believe I'm being disrespectful with those two words.
The game passed Murphy by 3 years ago.
For the record I have a large framed limited edition picture of him on my study wall next to Juddy's.
My judgements and opinions are not made with the blind unconditional love of others that's all.
And believe me, cut me and I bleed blue!

The loyalty of these players is amazing.

Neither are mine.

I see really significant improvement in 2020. The biggest will come from fitness & strength which has been our biggest issue.

Cripps Docherty Jones/Casboult Curnow Kruezer Murphy Newman Plowman are our mature core. The return of Docherty helps in so many areas.

Charlie McKay Cuningham SPS Fisher Jack Weitering Marchbank McGovern will be at the age and experience where they should really start to step up and control games consistently

I expect big improvement in Dow O'Brien Walsh Williamson TDK Gibbons Kennedy Setterfield Stocker.

There are always a couple of surprises and I can see a couple of Owies DeLuca Goddard Kerr Polson Schumacher Macreadie Cottrell really stepping up and helping. We aren't relying on improvement from a couple of players, we are looking at significant improvement across most of the list. That is massive!

Our defence has depth and options and has now had time together, the forward line is extremely talented as is the midfield

Then we add another 6-8 players like Martin Cameron Ellis Cunningham etc that will help with size and experience and improve our depth and list.

That is significant for a side that even at the moment playing near their best in patches is more than competitive. Lot to be to excited about

What about Bonar?

Parfait I like but would he leave Geelong, doubt it.

What can anyone tell me about Jye Caldwell. Never seen any highlights but from what I’ve read is a burst mid with decent skills?

I would be very happy with any of those. Caldwell is extremely talented. I'm told we rated him top 3 for mids. He's about a year behind because of injury and talk is he will come back to Victoria. Good mates with Lochie & Dow so that may help.

Names like Cerra Atley Drew Brodie who may be looking to come home would be worth talking to as well as names like Constable who may want an opportunity

I'm not interested in Bonar types, just because they still need developing and may not contribute right away. We'd be using currency on a player that does nothing to help us improve right now.

We have to win games to keep the players interested in staying.
