On the Melbourne board they claiming they told gws they want pick 6, 2020 first and another 1st rounder in exchange for pick 3, also saying they should threaten to bid on Henry at 8 if we refuse to trade with them, i think its best freo and gws work out draft night trades with each other, im sure they would prefer pick 10 and 2 2020 2nd rounders for 6 and their 2020 1st over what Melbourne are demanding

There should be a way for GWS to hide their pick 6 from the bid on Green and then trade back in to use it after the bid has come. If we trade up so that we have a couple of picks before Henry, then that’s a good deal. This assumes that the threat of picking Green at 3-5 is real (I think it is) and that the threat of Henry at 8-9 is real (I’m not so sure).
If the threat of Melbourne making us burn pick 10 isn’t real, then the trade with GWS you are suggesting isn’t a good advantage to Fremantle. Also giving GWS pick 10 means it will just get burned by the Green bid. Better to give them multiple later picks (if we have them).

Bottom line is: yes, trade with GWS and both teams thwart Melbourne. But not quite the trade you are suggesting.
We just need to come out in the Media and say we will match any bid on Henry so bid away. Hopefully scare them off
That would be the worst thing to do. Then there is nothing to stop any team bidding for Henry as high as possible. Hawthorn passing on Mosquito last year is probably the best thing to happen. Dodoro got burnt, no one else will want to.

I just want Henry in purple. We’ve got some investment there. And I Don’t care which pick we have to “burn”. It’s the draft. Some players are a deal and some you have to pay overs for. It all evens out imo.

For example, the Packers took a future hall of fame quarterback at the 25th pick of the draft (Rodgers). Basically, every team passed on him. And at the time the Pack had hall of famer Brett Favre on the roster and everyone thought they should have gone a different direction. They stuck with BPA draft strategy and it all worked out. Tom Brady was also famously the 199th pick. Every team passed on him five times. Now After a bazillion Super Bowl wins i guess you could say they paid unders for him.....

As long as we stick to best player available and use whatever picks to get LH it should be a solid draft class based on how even the talent seems to be this draft. I’m looking forward to draft day.

Happy to burn either pick 7 or 10 for Henry.

If the bid comes at 3, then we will burn 7 and 10 will move to 19. I wouldn't match that

4 pick bid gets matched with pick 7.

Lessons can be learned from Green Bay but NFL doesn't have homesickness and they can trade players without their permission.

Going Best player available makes sense but if we need to split equal talent then need and where your from counts.

In saying that, sometimes trading up or down to get into a position in a draft where WA talent will be available makes sense to me. In 2017 West Coast traded into the second round to get mature and WA players.

Disagree with this. Better to create uncertainty. A statement that we have a rating for Henry as we do with other players and will use it to determine our response to possible bids for him.

If we match a bid at 3 it possibly costs us Stephens and Robertson. Pass.

I may be in the the minority here but if a bid comes at inside top 10 We pass .I don't think it will happen though ,He is a huge homesick risk for interstate clubs and it isn't as if West Coast can bid on him.

I think our picks will move down to pick 8 and pick 11 once the Green bid has been matched, meaning our picks will be worth less points. If someone plays silly buggers and calls out Henry at pick 3 or pick 4 after a Green match, it would take both our first two picks to match the bid.

So bid at pick 3,4: will require 7(8) and 10(11). Don’t match. Sorry Liam. We have 7(8), 10(11) and 22(23) (if we matched it would be Henry, 22(24). I would not trade 7 and 10 for pick 3 or 4.

Bid at Pick 5,6,7: will require 7(8). Match. We have Henry, 10(11) and 22(24)

Bid at Pick 8(9), 9(10): will require 10(11). Match. We have pick 7(8), Henry and 22(24)

Bid at Pick 11(12) or later. Match. Happy days. We have pick 7(8), 10(11), Henry. Pick 22(23) will be enough if the bid comes at 17 or later, and our third round pick (currently 58) would be eaten up if before pick 17.

GWS will need to trade out pick 6 for that to happen.

Currently, if Green comes at 3 and then GWS loses pick 6. Either pick 7 or 10 will be moved.

this whole board has become such a hard slog of late.

i know all the uncertainty has us unsure of what it is we are actually barracking for here.

but i just wish the mods could shut it down for a week.

just so all our brains can have a rest and we can miss each other a little and come back without the need to respond to a snide/stupid/loaded/defeated/hopeless/jaded comment that rubbed us the wrong way five minutes ago.

a little factory reset of sorts.

you know if an alien read this board and i tried to tell it that we were all in on the same purple dog, the alien would call up the mothership and tell them "warm up the thrusters, E.T lied to us there isnt any intelligent life on earth".

can't we all just get along and save the vitriol for those smarmy toffs up the road?

I think we trade them our 2020 2nds for pick #6.

Then when Green is bid on we trade them #10 for the 2020 2nds back

I think Lore has said that the AFL is looking to outlaw this. If we trade picks with GWS and then swap back later, they need to be slightly different picks. Eg our two second rounders, then their second rounder and a later pick. GWS would also likely need a pick in this round from any trade involving pick 6 so that they have enough points to pay for Green.

Green will most likely to be bid early 3-5.

Our pick 10 will be pick 11.

Henry is rated as a top 15 pick.

So losing pick 11 for Henry plus a later pick isn’t much of a reach.

Our pick pick 7 will be pick 8. Again, we lose pick 8 for Henry plus a later pick

Pick 10 will push out to pick 12 because of the Green and Henry bids.
You are right,I was probably thinking more the pick 3 scenario that would be a pass for mine.

Josh Dunkley i bet the swans are kicking themselves for that one

On SM-G973F using BigFooty.com mobile app
Dunkley’s dad is salty with the Swans and didn’t want his son to go to Sydney.

Dunkley father and son are pretty and only wanted his son to stay in Victoria.

If an interstate team bided on Dunkley, the Swans would have matched.

Okay, that makes sense. So if GWS are to trade out pick 6, it would be good if it was with us.
I do think there is a good chance that Melbourne comes in with an early bid. Those shorts have spooked me!!

I know that SPS knew by now (back in his draft) that Freo had told him they weren’t picking him at 3 ( they downgraded their pick to get Logue, McCarthy and a swag of later picks). Maybe Henry knows what is likely to happen.

Also, like SPS, Henry won’t get homesick for Perth. He is more likely to get homesick for Bali. It’s closer to his home than Perth.

I think I understand the demon shorts.

Henry lived in Tammin and Jeffrey Farmer is from there.

Tammin is only about 1.5 hrs down the road , I would say closer to Perth than Bali.

Sorry for coming in like Yoko era John Lennon. Was definitely off topic, will take the intention elsewhere. 🤗

Is he from Tammin? I thought he was from Derby?

Edit: Okay. His school says he is a boarder from Tammin.
He must have gone to Derby for long enough to be picked up as an NGA.

They are trying to close the loophole for academy bidding but haven't told us exactly how they'll do that. Typically vague and uninformative as usual from HQ. You also can't trade a pick back to the club you got it from, that one's actually written into the rules in black and white, so it would have to be slightly different picks. The example of course is what Sydney did last year using West Coast to park picks.
