Jenkins would be the only true rumor there.
What would Richmond trade for Matt a late 1st lol, no thanks. Both Crouch brothers are contracted and required so a godfather offer would need to be made for either.

And actually Smack has probably been more effective for Essendon this year than Jenkins has been for us....Be on a lot less coin too.

Yeah like a former basketballer in Ricky Henderson and now he's supposedly interested in another basketballer Hugh Greenwood....wonder if an ex cricketer is on his radar?
how is he going to fit them all in and pay for them - apparently he is getting Paton, Coniglio and B Hill..are players paying Hawthorn just for the privilege to play there?

I agree with that, but gee SMack still does some insanely dumb stuff. He can't be real bright. I can totally see why we moved him on.

Spot on. Every time I watch him play he takes a brilliant mark and then kicks into the man on the mark and gives away a 50m penalty (or similar).

Could be an absolute gun but just doesn’t have it upstairs. Equally he could win a final off his own boot one day.

I remember hearing about Burton when he was playing that despite his seemingly instinctive, carefree playing style that he was actually plagued by self doubt and struggled with self confidence.

Very self conscious about errors. Over-thought things. Coaches had to constantly reassure him, pump his tyres up. Encourage him to keep backing himself.

I wonder if the cocky and arrogant streak he carries now is a veneer for someone who deep down doesn't really have faith that they know what they're doing?

In my experience the least competent individuals are the least likely to take on board advice and feedback or source other's opinions. They have a real self defence mechanism. See asking for assistance to be a sign of weakness. Feel they are being judged.

So bunker down, refuse to listen to others.

The ones who have genuine knowledge and are adept in their role are more than happy to canvas the opinions of others and take advice on board. They know this is where improvement comes from. They are secure enough in their mind that they don't see advice as a threat or as implied criticism.

They don't feel they have to 'prove' anything to anyone.

The ones plagued by self doubt are constantly trying to prove their knowledge and superiority.
This is as true today as it was 15 pages ago

Confidence in who you are > honest self reflection > improve

Vs

Fragile ego > need to always be right > never improve

Players leaving this year may be inevitable and sad. The worst part from my perspective is that if the club didn't have their collective heads up their own arses and started a transparent and fully external review earlier an exodus may not happen or even be necessary.

Both Collingwood and Richmond were shrewd enough to start theirs mid season .. giving the clubs time to make the necessary structural and personal changes prior to heading into their preseasons

Caro said tonight the leadership group went to management at the end of 2018 with a list of complaints where most of them weren't actioned.

Some of the players then went and complained about some of the things that were changed, so maybe they're just hard to please.

That's what I mean. If the review came out and said "They struggle with X, Y and Z and this will prevent them doing their job to an acceptable level" we'd say "let's work on X, Y, Z" instead of finding someone who can do those things.

I get that not everyone we hire will be perfect and will have things they're not good at and need to improve on, but if those things turn out to be the oft-repeated rumours like how Burton doesn't get along well with players and a lot of the coaches, that he micro-manages and isn't willing to listen to outside opinions then things like that can't be fixed. Burton is in his 40's or whatever, those sort of personality traits don't go away. He can say he'll work on them, but you can almost guarantee he'll fall back into the same old habits. But the clubs personal biases to certain people will probably see he gets a second chance, even though the end result is unlikely to turn out to our advantage.
You could've said the same of Buckley, but he changed his philosophy.

Don't get me wrong, I think oir club isn't ruthless enough when it fomes to performance (keeping Trigg on the books the perfect example), but people can change IF they want to

He can't change who he is, he might be able to suppress it for a while, but when the going gets tough and the pressure hits the old Buckley shows up.

Yeah, but there were no issues midseason...if you looked at the W:L columns in isolation
