If Sydney choose Hollands instead of Grainger-Barrass with pick 3. Which player would Wright then lean towards with pick 4; Grainger-Barrass or Phillips?
Phillips, our midfield is still shallow and we have a few younger tall intercepting defenders already and there is no guarantee DGB could take the larger forwards.

If Grainger Barras is available we must take him. We have no obvious KEY defender on our list that we can depend on long term. This kid is a ripper. Harris Andrews type with a bit more dash and flair. Midfielders aplenty in next years draft. Still think Sydney take him unfortunately! The Adelaide recruiting team have made a decision on their choice for the no.1 Pick. Should start getting a clearer picture on how the first few picks will fall in the next day or so.

At a hunch I think we'd go DGB in that circumstance, don't think we expect him to be available though.

Locked based on what? Balmer throws darts was said here yesterday.
Bombers picks looking good- A month ago GWS picks would have got us Perkins/Reid/Cox which is way I would have gone especially Reid/Cox.
GWS still looking good- Pick 16 Laurie, Pick 20 Bruhn, pick 24- Pedlar, Some people would take 3 over 1 selection, although the real interest for me was Reid/Cox combination.

So if it was a choice between Phillips and Perkins the club may well think Perkins has more upside, but they may also think Phillips could get more out of himself.
If you could have someone with more upside or Sam Mitchell who would you take?

Phillips is not similar to Mitchell. Mitchell became an outside player later in his career. You may scoff, but a former RFC player told me in player analysis and opponent preparation, Mitchell was considered an outside player first and foremost.

He would get the ball a yard off the contest, dance on the spot, shimmy shimmy, and spot people up with incredible ambidexterity. Less and less was he digging the ball out like in his early career when his clearance numbers were insane.

Phillips is a first possession mid - like both Worpel and Tom Mitchell but has explosiveness and speed that these two don't.
If we draft Phillips we will be overstocked at inside mid in the short term, but in five years when Tom Mitchell, Jaeger, Shiels etc are long gone

Our core group of insiders could theoretically be Worpel, Phillips, Maginness - which is absolutely not too many and has a good blend of height, speed and endurance.

We would still need some pure outside players and some hybrid mids, but we would have a core group of competitive beasts which I absolutely love the idea of.
You've missed the point. Mitchell was considered a one trick pony as an in and under player (hence the nickname the extractor). His professionalism and desire to get the best out of himself made him into the player that won four premierships and a Brownlow.

If Phillips comes with a similar attitude then what is stopping him from doing something similar.

Talent only gets you through the door.

Sam mitchell remember was overlooked in the draft he then went about playing at box hill where his performances just could not be ignored by Hawthorn. He could get the ball in traffic was very good at it but all of his other traits came through training hard to get the best out of himself he does not compare to any of the draft picks we r interested in. Similar to a hodge and a lewis their pedigree is known

Yeah let’s put up all time greats as a general rule. That will work well...

Well look at last year's top 10 clearance players, half of them are between 178-184cm, the other half are between 190-202cm, the top clearance player was Clayton Oliver at 187cm.

It just depends.

You said the best height for clearance is 185cm, you also said that during premiership years we had taller mids Hodge, Lewis who are that height but Mitchell was the best. It depends on the player.

Anyway you said we had Worpel and he's 185cm.
