There are teams who’s NGAs will be bid on in the 10-20 range .
As an eg .
Pies hold 13 right now and there’s every their NGA (McInnes) is bid on b4 this .
Pies will shop 13 for points ...say 21 and 47.
we get 13 and they retain their second rdr .

Doggies, Pies and even Adelaide (probably not their first two picks though).

If you see like I do giving up pick 21 and 43 for 8 as a win ....
add the fact a bid on Conner would/could only need to be matched with a 3rd and 4th rdr .
so it COULD look like ...
3,8 and Conner .....
If you had pick 15 to go with that you might have a chance, if not dreaming.

I'm not sure I follow.

Why wouldn't they just use the pick 8 points (1550) to get him, rather than swap 8 to us for 21 and 43 ( 1250 points)

It's good for us, but what's in it for them?

High mate ....IT WILL happen as it has in previous years .
Question is will be be involved......strong list manager relationships will / do play a part ..
HBD the Dogs can still go into a points deficit right? If their kid gets bid on straight away what kind of deficit would they be looking at and how much of a deficit are they allowed to have I assume is the question. They’ve already anointed the kid the next Buddy. Talk about pressure for the kid 😂

Having norfs 2nd pick which will sit at 20ish will come in handy in a trade or in the draft

Eld’s taking the points literally your right it does not add up .....it’s the principle.
if current situation remains we need to add a 4th rdr.
but say they go into the 8 making their pick 10 ( lessening points ) and our picks come in ( gaining points ) it works ......
Again it’s the Principle.
Also keep in mind you MUST take three picks ....Dogs ONLY have 4 right now ...

On having to take 3 picks:

I’d say it’s highly unlikely that the AFL will mandate having to take 3 picks this year if list sizes are reduced (still bearish about whether they will actually reduced list sizes dramatically though)

That’s an interesting point

Glad people on here have their head around the points , I have no idea !

I just want us to get good quality ball users and decision makers .
Ofcourse a big bodied dynamic mid would be fantastic .

But we can do with quality in all parts of the ground .

The warm, fuzzy feeling that comes with knowing they did a good deed?

Come join me in the Elijah Hollands bandwagon.

Unfortunately recruiters have seen plenty of him already playing all possible games for the nab league as a bottom ager which is rare. So I can't see him dropping like other Vic kids might this year. His injury might see him drop a little, being touted as a top 5 and potential 1, the injury might drop him to the back end of that range.

Im not hoping for us to lose but if we can't pull things together and we end up with say a pick 4 I'm crossing my fingers we land this kid. Perfect complement to our Midfield and with Smith and Henderson on there last legs we need more young kids like Hollands on our list.

Holland’s sounds great, but due to injury you know he comes with I feel like I’d be on the edge of my seat the moment we read out his name and every time he took the field from that point on.

The same thinking that passed over Joel Sellwood. Always risk when going to the draft.

Someone is going to take the risk on this kid I hope it is us. But we have taken our fair share of these risks lately and not all of them have came off.

The swing factor in these points trades will be list sizes and minimum picks (may not be 3). Clubs may not want to stockpile late picks for points if means they need to delist to make spots available. Also a number of clubs are stocked with more picks than us so will be some competition.

Re draft Logan McDonald sounds perfect for us (although haven’t seen him play). A big athletic CHF who can mark and score goals. Basically replace TOB and hope one of Lewis/Jeka/Patton can fill the deeper forward spot.
Add a pacy mid player with our 2nd pick, downie, and a Small forward and tall back prospect with whatever is left + get Williams as FA and we’re off.

Yeah he has talent and i wouldn't be against it but plenty of very good talent around that top 5, is it worth the risk without him being the clear best talent?

Hard to say

I have done an in-depth 5min read on the drafting forum and have strategically worked out we need to draft the following players
- Logan McDonald (cos he is very tall ; can stick marks & kick goals )
- Elijah Hollands (recovered from acl ✔️ : has X factor?! ;goal kicking midfielder)
- Will Phillips (if he’s still available- small gun midfielder to replace Mitchell)

I'm all aboard the Hollands train as well, looks like the outside class we've been screaming out for

Yeah this pretty much sums it up. We are more likely to have 4 (to be pushed out to 5) then 1 if any at all. So the choice will most likely be taken out of our hands.

I watched that curtain raiser from last year last night, Geez Hollands kicking in really incredible. We should aiming for him, if not McDonald then Phillips. Phillips isn't that damaging by foot but he is just a ball magnet and you know he will be a gun for a long time. Like Mitchell but with speed. McDonald will be an elite key fwd. So clean.
Second rounder, Id actually look at Jack Carrol or Jake Bowey. Two of the best kicks in the draft. Both small but there skills are sublime. Reckon Bowey will jump up draft boards.
