I'm all for making the bulldogs pay full price Ugle-Hanan, but pick 13 was never even asked about according to Reid: “We never asked for pick 13, we’ve got some picks you can actually slide, we never actually asked for pick 13.”

To be fair he probably didn't bother asking about pick 13 because we were never going to get it.

After the Keath trade, we should absolutely bid on Jamarra Ugle-Hagan at 1.

Bulldogs would need 2,400 points to match, currently they would have to use all of their 2020 picks and go into a deficit in 2021 (approx 300 points at this stage).

We should use the threat of a JUH bid to better our draft hand, even if it's only to improve junk picks.

So let me get this right. The good deals were Reid’s and the bad deals were someone else’s fault. Add failed to trade up picks in the 2018 super draft.

Agreed, the only iffy deals I'd say Reid has done in his time as list manager are the Gibbs deal (impossible to predict how much he'd fall off a cliff), as well as Greenwood and Keath (club shot themselves in the foot by publicly valuing them lowly). Did really well on the Lever/McGovern/Cameron deals, for instance, as well as all of the pick swaps

I'd be inclined to say Keath was ok.

Gibbs was a ****up, though, truthfully I doubt Ried had full autonomy on that one. Greenwood was a **** up.

The Gibbs deal I think was taken out of his hands for starters and you'll never get absolute value for UNCONTRACTED players, and on Greenwood I see people going on about Greenwood's 21 disposal game on the weekend but when you drill down on them only 10 of those disposals were effective hence his DE% of 47.6% and not a single solitary inside 50 and 3 score involvements. If one of our mids had returns like that their's some on this board that would be up in arms
Yeah I see where you're coming from re: uncontracted players, but I still think Greenwood and Keath are two we could have pushed a bit more for. Greenwood, in particular, was the one that miffed me - yeah I agree he's not the cleanest player but he's still got that great overhead mark and goal nous for an inside mid, something we lack from our midfield right now. Despite that, I don't think it's a deal to get too worked up about, I'd definitely prefer to be pushing games into the likes of Ned/Chayce/Poholke

Yeah I'd definitely say Greenwood is the one we should be most miffed about, considering his production and strengths. A pick around 40 is a bit disheartening, at least

In order to trade up you need another party willing to deal, unless clubs were prepared to pay ridiculously massive overs the option was not there.

Reid might have gotten very lucky with the Gibbs trade as pick 21 actually allow us to trade with GWS for their 2nd rounder (pick 28) + Carlton's future 2nd rounder (pick 23)

We needed to be prepared to keep Greenwood if we couldn't get appropriate compensation.

This continues to be our failing. When we decide we don't want a player, they're done, we do whatever it takes to get rid of them, compensation be damned. Lyons, Greenwood, Keath, Henderson some examples.

If we want to get good deals for these players, particularly as most of them wanted to stay, we need to have a fall back position where we want to keep them. Even if this only is to increase our trade leverage

Our management of the salary cap and long term deals to mediocre or ageing players is a far bigger issue than what we've received in return for departing players.

I think this is a part of Reid's job function that people are clearly overlooking.

His work at the trade table as been really good if not for the constant trading into future drafts and living in this cycle of limbo where we dont use the capital was have at our disposal.

My concern is where and how we spend our TPP and the number of deals we have offered in the last 5 years to ageing players which means we struggle to keep our young talent.

Seems like he was a potential draft pick 1 before his ACL. Do you think he'll last to our GWS pick ~13 (similar to Brodie Kemp)?
I think the GWS pick will be closer to picks 17 and 18.. if we get 13 i think we can count our lucky stars..

The GWS pick could be a pick we can add to a player or one of our round 2 picks to get a pick around 8-10..

Big bodied mid Nicholas Kraemer in the bests for the Panthers reserves, could be handy pick up later in the draft with his well developed defensive game.
