What happened to the boys we delisted? Looks like none got picked up? If so Savage is incredibly unlucky

savage so unlucky, he's the one i think can play a full season of AFL and play a very consistent and good football

But then what would a DFA have to do with passing on the rookies? I think we could have taken any DFA we wanted and still taken our first pick in the rookie draft. I think they have just surmised that none of the players were a better prospect than having a couple of openings on the list for the supplementary and mid-season signings.

If you have a spot on your rookie list you can sign any unlisted players between January and late March.

We have 36 senior listed players and 3 Rookie players, meaning that we bring in 3 more players between the Supplementary Selection Period (described above), the mid-season rookie draft next year or via a Delisted Free Agent prior to the final list lodgement.

I think there is a qualifier to say they must have been nominated to the draft.

the list shift under lethers has been quite dramatic. i remember posting in frustration after a loss i think in 2017/2018 stating that we need another rebuild because the current one wasn't going to cut it, to go with the richo needs to go and the football department needs massive work. i got laughed at, called insane and bunch of other sh*t.

I remember these posts well ( there were more than one) - not because I called you insane ( I didn’t) but because I’m an optimist by nature, I still believed in Richo 🙄 and they depressed the bejeezus out of me!

Turns out you were right! 😳

Especially when Battle couldn't get a spot at times and never looked as good without a set position. Highmore isn't even a developing player he's going to be expected to play from day one. Midsize KPPs are our new HBFs.

I thought we might get next year as an un-compromised draft but we had to trade out at least one pick.

Maybe the plan is to acquire a pick or two in trade after next season? I've started to believe that our dark lord Satan does, indeed, work in mysterious and unfathomable ways ...

I do love the idea of all the media publishing their "Who smashed the draft" analyses. This club did so well by drafting this great player who has never played, while this club made a big error in drafting another who has never played. Just reminds me of the tripe that fills the second half of the news to justify it being an hour long production. I'd suggest that some will be good, others not so much, and whatever the journos are saying now will have zero correlation with how it pans out.

It's hilarious when they give out letter grades on the draft. Of course the club taking 3 picks in the top 10 is going to get 3 highly talented players while a club whose first pick is in the 50s got someone more speculative.

I am glad there are AFL journalists to provide such detailed analysis for us.

Yep, Footscray nailed it with that JUH pick. Where is that Ameet as Christ pic?

So, that's that...I'm a little confused by the selections, just as I was confused by a couple of the delistings. It's not my job to make sense of it...just surprised that no quick nuggety Winmar-esque inside/outside mid was taken 😉
Anyway, noticed Paddy McCartin didn't make it onto a list. Poor bugger...probably curtains for the bloke now.
Bring on 2021.

Pretty underwhelmed by our first pick TBH but wouldn’t mind hearing what the plan is for him before I get too outraged. I do think we needed another third tall intercepting type to replace Clark’s eventual midfield move so I can live with the second pick. Those players are worth their weight in gold.

Still don’t think we have a premiership midfield but hopefully I’m wrong on that.

Hopefully we have a top 4 midfield now and add the final piece or two at the end of this season.

Our midfield is looking a lot better. Steele, Crouch, Gresham, Jones, Ross, Hanners, Sinclair, Bytel, Byrnes, Hunter Clark and some midfield time for guys like Higgins and Hill and Billings outside.

Richmond is Cotchin, Edwards, Prestia, Lambert, Ross, Pickett and Bolton and a few developing types and Dusty rotating through there.

Collingwood- Sidey, Pendles, Adams, Crisp, Thomas, De Goey. Lose Phillips and Treloar.

Melbourne- Brayshaw, Oliver, Petrarca, Viney, Langdon, Thomlinson, Harmes.

Well you know we have stuffed up enough top 5 picks to understand they are no guarantees. Number 1 pick is a bit of a no win....in 5 years time he is either the player he should have been and the obvious choice or he is a massive waste of the top pick. Recruiters are expected to get it right but as we know, they don't quite often.

It's looking a lot better in part because Steele has taken a massive step forward and you could argue is in the Top 10 AFL mids. I hope Crouch's form line is his best and fairest year. I think it probably is if he can stay injury free and in that case it is a very good 1/2. I still feel after that it drops away a bit too sharply.

Who is our third line? Gresham/Jones? Of the clubs you picked out at Pies it would be Treloar/De Goey at Dees it would be Viney/Brayshaw at Tigers - well take you pick but the fact that Prestia is not in their top two says something.

I think our mids has improved from major weakness to top 8 competitive. Would still love to see an upgrade on Gresham or Jones in our best 3. For me it is the potential weak link in a push for a flag from this group and I hope the club has a solid path to a big recruit in 2021.

We have stuffed up one top 5 pick.
