This is Part 1

The thread is continued in part 2:

How does the risk factor stack up in recruiting a tall that becomes a success?

193cm and above players that were drafted in the top ten picks since 2013 as a sample with games played.

2013 - Boyd 61, Bontempelli 145
2014 - McCartin 38, Marchbank 48, Wright 66, Moore 89
2015 - Weitering 93, Schache 56, Weideman 44
2016 - Logue 28
2017 - Naughton 53
2018 - Lukosius 38, M King 18, B King 31, Blakey 38 (edit)

Hogan, Blakely, Schultz, Bewley, Crowden, Giro and 10 for 1?

We’d obviously get later picks back for academy prospects. Hence the “and change”
Just a way to get there without giving up a b22 player

There's talk North have put an offer in front of him that we're unlikely to match.

So there is some mail on this?

I figured Freo would have had him in their future plans.

Has got better with each year and had a pretty big jump last year in production

Who’s to say his ceiling is not a Papley type

Almost a certainty to end up with you guys I’d say going by our trade history and vision impaired rating of our own players

That's a pretty big jump to Papley. He's kicked more than 24 goals in all 5 seasons he has played.

Schultz has been pretty good this year but he's amongst a bunch of small players on our list in competition for a spot in the 22. This time next year I'm expecting quite a few delistings of sub 6' players - as most of them come out of contract then.

I'd keep him on for another year but I wouldn't be offering more than one year personally. Don't think we should compete on terms with a club that could offer more years/money like North but with far less chance of playing finals over the coming years. If he stays for less coin/contract length (for one year) then I'd back him in to improve again and assuming he does we could then throw a much better contract at him at the end of next season.

The West Australian are saying that Jordan Clark is going to be staying with the cats

Happy days. Don’t reckon he would have added much to our squad TBH.

Papley was in a much better side and still never really got his due for a few years because of that rookie list stink

??????

Josh Kennedy is the last one I can think of, and he wasn't exactly killing it.
Graham Polak.

I don’t think you need to include Cox in that though...
1. Sydney get JH, CB and pick 10. Give pick 4 (plus change either way)
2. Norf get pick 4 plus Schultz and Bewley. Give pick 2 (plus change either way?)
3. (Sorry joao) Adelaide get Crowden, Giro and pick 2. Give pick one (plus change)

Then we can use next years first to try get another pick inside this draft.

That said, if we can’t get LMcD, I’m really keen on Hollands
Hahaha, we replace 6 players with an 18 year old? No thanks.

Do Ithink it will happen? No
Do I like it? No
People were asking how to get Logan, unfortunately, that’s how you do it.
Personally would prefer to stay at 3/4 and hope we can snag Holland’s or DGB

There is zero guarantee that a player you draft is even as good as one of the players you traded away to pick him up.

lol. had to look at this a bit ... a degree of value more than zero guarantee. I'd like to see that:D

Seriously though, to draft McDonald, or trade in Brown, or keep Hogan....the obvious without risk is to keep what you have and know even with no guarantee on return....think that is kinda what what you meant Taylor ?

GWS interest in Hogan may be as a plan B if they can't get Tom McDonald from Melbourne.

My head hurts

Give us Sam Taylor and a 2nd

One thing GWS will have plenty of this year is decent draft picks.

So we’re replacing a fwd with a defender which we have plenty of.

Think of Aaron Naughton drafted as a defender and is now killing it as a forward 🤷‍♀️ Or we switch Cox back to forward and Taylor can take the 3rd tall defender
