4 posts supporting Shultz and 4000 supporting Jesse bloody Hogan

I do wonder about this place sometimes

Even better are the folks who want to trade Hogan for a second rounder, but think Shultz is untouchable

Apparently Marlion Pickett has just signed a new 2 year deal with the Tigers.

Happy for him and Freo

He certainly has some valuable Grand Final experience. Two winning grand finals in just ~20 games? That's nuts Ha.

Yes he was pretty good last night. His constant pressure caused a few Cats to turn the ball over.
Have people become more open to the idea of Pickett coming here? He was decent last night and there's nothing wrong with having some good depth, he'd be an upgrade on a few guys.

wouldn't touch him with a barge poll.

He spent most of the night chasing blokes around which is the easiest job in the AFL, all you need is pace and a decent tank.

If he wasn't a debutant last year he would barely have been noticed.

By far their worst player made plenty of clangers last night.

I don't recall Shultz costing the club a fortune and causing us any headaches. The post imbalance is inevitable.

Well that sounds like a great reason to let Shultz go for a packet of chips .... sorry mate you just didn’t cost us enough or make enough trouble

What are you on about? I was referencing your whinge about the post count. It had nothing to do with Shultz' potential trade worth.

FWIW I hope we keep him.

But that’s what my post was about , we are supposedly letting Shultz go to north for jack and there’s very little outcry at all where as any talk of trading Jesse twists people into knots and generates hundreds of posts

Maybe that’s because he has the POTENTIAL to be a seriously good key forward???

I’m a big Shultz fan, but he doesn’t have the same potential.

Potentional doesn't win games of football.
If it did, we would have won a flag when we had Bennell, McCarthy, and Matera on the list ... so much potential that amounted to nothing.

harder to keep an Uncontracted Schultz than it is a contracted hogan. If north offer him a 2 year contract and us only a one year contract than he takes it and we attempt to secure a points pick in a trade. Otherwise north grab him in the preseason draft. Maybe their 57 or 65

Getting hogan match fit and professional should be our offseason goal. He needs to be fostered with an appropriate mentor. Would love him to be buddied up with a squeaky clean ex docker. McPharlin would be a good choice.

Of course, and the point is that unfufilled potential is frustrating and causes people to vent. ie: lots of posts.

Shultz is potential realised. He gave us 100% of his talent this year. Nothing but praise for Lachie. But at the same time, he didn't cost us much, and we do have depth in his position.

Hogan on the other hand has been operating well below his threshold, and we really need a forward of his size and skill. Not much depth there. And that is confounding for Freo supporters because he cost a packet. So either he stays, and maybe he performs to the expected level, or he leaves and we cut our losses via some kind of pick return.

By any measure Shultz took a big leap forward in his performance in his second year but he has tapped out his potential compared to Hogan in his 7-8th year ?

What a crock of shit

I dont know if we have a lot of small forward depth. And if we do, right now Schultz would be in the top-half of that depth chart given his continued selection this year.

Of course if he gets an offer that we aren't prepared to match, all power to him. He would leave with a fond farewell from me.

I dont think the situation with Hogan is much of a mystery. To me the guy looks like an athletically gifted young man who enjoys playing footy. Which is perfectly cool, but it isn't quite the same thing as wanting to be a professional footballer.
