This is Part 1

The thread is continued in part 2:

Also I just checked the bigfooty phantom draft, it was an absolute shitshow for freo lol. Chapman with our first, losing 33 with a bit on walker at 31, and then not matching a western bid 2 picks later. Probably worst case scenario for mine

Yep. I know it’s only a big footy phantom and meaningless, but that is almost the worse possible result.

I saw in another one we picked Matt Parker with a late pick and eddie ford (reach) at the fist which is another junk selection.

Wow, the camera is kind to JK.
After reading that, I feel much more positive about Hugh Dixon.

I have no problem with Banfield on the Rookie List.

We've had some hits there over the past decade, namely Taberner and Hughes, but when I think back at some of the tripe we've picked around those it makes the decision to retain Banfield sit more comfortably.

How many of you remember these guys all we've taken in the Rookie draft over the past 10 years:

Matt Ubergang
Sean Hurley
Michael Wood
Tom Vandeleaur
Jocob Ballard
Alex Howsen
Craig Moller
Hayden Shloithe
Jordan Wilson-King
Gavin Roberts
Ben Bucovaz
Tim Ruffles
Aaron sandilands , Roger Hayden, Michael Barlow

Would it be worth enquiring Collingwood if they would swap 14, 16 and 65 for 12 and 32.
They should get ahead of a bid for McInness, we get two top 20 picks.

Maybe then take our newly acquired 65 to Brisbane for 66, 68, 69, which they won’t use anyway. So now they’ll be throwing away one pick, rather than 3.

Would 55, 56, 63, 66, 68, 69 pay for Walker and Western after the picks all move forward and with the 20% discount? Or am I living in la la land.

If la la land is the answer, could you explain why / where I’m screwing up. Thx

Was'nt Michael Johnson a rookie as well? One of my all-time favs.

Matt deBoer was a rookie too. Criminally cast aside too soon IMHO.

MJ was a Pre Season Draft selection I think. not rookie.

Chapman interviewed on 6pr. Freo hasn't spoken to him since interviewing earlier in the year. Would have thought if they were that keen, more recent interaction. Don't hang your hat on that pick people

Laughing at people getting worked up about who we took at the big footy phantom draft!
However if we really haven’t spoken to Chapman since earlier this year, it seems quite unlikely we would use our first pick on him?

Wouldn’t think so - it is heavily weighted in our favour. Also Collingwood just having pick 32 ain’t going to cut them anywhere near enough points for McInnes. I’d suggest what they will do is look top 10 and in the trade get some later picks back.

We could target WB pick 26 in a trade, ie 26, 90 > 32, 55

And hope that 90 pushes up to late 60’s following last list lodgement and then up further by the time it comes to bid matching. However there is no guarantees that 26 (pushed back to 30/31) will get in front of Walker bid.

We’d need to combine 32 with future 3rd and target a pick around 20-23, but looking at those clubs can’t see them giving up the picks.

link please?

It’s either in one of the last 500-1000 posts on this thread or the Young Talent thread... strangely just after I said Neale should be a target, time wise it was just before the Allstate WA game.

I don’t time stamp or poster stamp stuff but a search function is available to you!

As I wrote in the post, I only went back 10 years.

Thanks for that. Didn’t think it through that 32 wouldn’t be enough for McInnes.
So many permutations, predraft pick trading and then live trading. I guess I’ll just leave it to those posters who know better to work out the possibilities, then watch it unfold on draft night nothing like anyone was predicting! 😣

So just been told by someone who knows Jordan Clark that he asked to come home, but the cats said no deal.

They said the same thing with Kelly the first time.

Will be interesting to see how that plays out in 2021 after the cats picked up a number of mature age players and resigned a heap of fringe players to 1-year deals.

Anyway it looks like we will be well positioned to be busier during next years trade period.

May play out the same as with Kelly and WC.
Getting both clubs bidding is a smart move.
