This is Part 1

The thread is continued in part 2:

If the list sizes are 40+2 (+2 Cat Bs) and we'll most likely take 4 in the ND (inc Walker + Western) then we'll still need to delist one more player (that we can then take back as a rookie or pick someone else) before grabbing an extra Cat B if we want.

I'm not completely against grabbing a young player falling off another list due to list size cuts but in our current situation they need to be better than two of Banfield, Schultz and Bewley (who are the 3 still out of contract along with Mundy) for it to make sense to do so. The only other option is trading someone out to make space - in which case you'd want whoever we bring in being better than who we trade out obviously.

Banfield and Bewley should go first from that group IMO.

WHE is not useless, if he's on a wing he's great, however Bucks for some reason thinks he's a small forward/HFF. Has elite endurance with speed and has his best games on the wing.
In a lot of ways very much like Brad Hill but cheaper.
Hoskin-Elliot actually did quite well as a forward in 2018 and was a substantial part of their attacking mix in that GF year. Although he's more part of the icing rather than the cake as a forward. He's more experienced as a midfielder and could have more value as a wing or even a hybrid high-half-mid. Not sure we would want to spend much on him though.

Reading between the lines of the last 24 hours Re: JH - Club will stick with him (have invested too much so far), no issues between club and player or teammates.
HOWEVER: JH is aware that he may need to relocate, if another club approaches with a super offer, and Freo are able to secure a decent replacement.
Club not prepared to reduce his value by saying he's available.

Bump

You broke it to us two months back..heard anything else??
Your offer is waaayyyy higher than Collingwood's. Same dude told me about Matthew Boyd coming to your coaching panel about a month ago, and that seems to have turned out true by the looks of it, so at least there's that :)
aannnddd the Pies have upped their offer by a large amount. Don't know what happens from here honestly. Prioritising De Goey was forcing Mihocek out, but now it looks like Phillips is almost 100% gone which frees up money there, they are not budging on the De Goey offer and he can't find any suitors so they now have the space to get in the realm of Freo's offer. Not great

At the end of the day, if we are used to make life difficult for other list manager's, I'm ok with that. Eventually it may squeeze someone out of a club that we can jump on.

Funnily enough, there's strong rumours that Phillips could be heading to the Dogs, so it seems your pursuit of Mihocek has helped us out ;)

Nice... And the war on C'wood continues

Yeah I really like Zurhaar, real attacking nous. Would be a bit similar to our current nuggety small fwds tho.

We also need an early days Stephen Hill clone if available. Any suggestions, Chris25?
I think Zurhaar is a step above our other small forwards as he can tak

Just what you need, another midfielder.

Brandon Walker sounds like a potential future wingman. That outside run Longmuir is looking for. Would he be AFL ready in 2021 or would he need time? Wondering if Jlo is considering Tom Phillips (or Hoskin-Elliot) as a plug and play option right now.
I'd say he'd be pretty close to AFL ready in 2021.

I have no idea why, as I've barely seen him play, but I get a dose of the tingles when thinking about what sort of player Walker may mature into in the AFL.

Smooth movers who break lines and deliver well are footy pr0n for me.

We need a wing, all we have is Hunter.

Shockingly, there's been talk the club plans on moving Hunter to the inside. We play Dunkley up forward because we have a squeeze for midfield spots, and for some ****ing reason we are considering moving Hunter into the mix too....

Perhaps a rotation between he and Macrae?

Keep him inside to prevent him smashing into too many parked vehicles..

That's pretty much my thought too - not sure what they hope to achieve out of it, but it's really the only viable option. Dunks can't play wing, nor can Libba or Bont. Smith is a possibility but he seems to thrive in congestion so doubt we'd pull him out, especially since it would mean our midfield has no pace

I don't reckon your coach even knows what he's doing with your blokes half the time...

We're quite "passionate" about this topic on our board.
  • Crozier was close to AA level last year at half back. Got thrown forward in our final against the Saints.
  • Richards was getting big hype in his first year due to his impressive displays at half back. Has played predominantly forward the last 2 years and been mediocre.
  • English solo rucking and getting slaughtered thanks to never getting a proper rest.
  • Dunkley playing forward-ruck instead of inside mid, where he made the AA squad.
The list goes on. Obviously we've had successes in the past, with Dunks first moving into the midfield, Naughton being pushed forward, and Wallis reinventing himself as a forward. But the failures far outweigh the successes, and I think it's largely because our forward line is so dysfunctional, Bevo is desperate to find the right mix. I half expect if we traded for Phillips that he'd start round 1 in the bloody forward pocket...
