Assuming we get Saad, having taken on Williams -

Backline - Is solid, well structured and disciplined. There isn't a lot wrong with it and we'll be better off with Saad and a year behind Docherty.

Midfield - Sure Cripps is pivotal but with Williams involved, Setterfield with a full year behind him and plenty of youth....we're more than just OK.

Forward - Just one dangerous small forward missing with Betts' form declining. CCurnow coming back 100% is also important.

Ruck - We just don't know. Of curse TDK will develop but we are asking a lot of him to become the big banana as soon as next year.

Thinking about this years draft and the overflow of academy prospects and how that will affect the draft order.

Using Cal Twomey's rankings (just as a quick guide ) for where bids come:

Jamarra Ugle-Hagan (Bid @ 1) - 3000 points. Discount sets it to 2400

WB's 14, 41, 54 (total 1813 points)

Dogs absolutely need more value in this years draft.

Braeden Campbell (Bid @ 6) - 1751 points. Discount sets it to 1401

Syd's 25, 58, 62 (Total: 1049)

Sydney needs more points as well

Alex Davies (Bid @ 14) - 1161 points. Discount sets it to 929

GC's 27, 76 ( Total: 703)

GC also need picks

Errol Gulden ( Bid @ 22) - 845 points. Discount sets it to 676

Syd's 25, 58, 62 (Total: 1049)

Sydney is either going to lose these prospects or needs to trade in picks

I reckon all of these clubs go hard to trade into the 2nd/3rd round
Dont believe GC needs to match points for their academy picks and they can just prelist them of take them provided they have the list spots

Curnow’s injury is a perfect example of why clubs need to take some power back and stop offering ridiculous long term deals on huge money to players, It very rarely works out well for the club 3 years should be the maximum any player gets unless your an absolute professional like Sam Walsh or Jacob Weitering.

The Zac Williams contract will be the worst contract ever handed out by a Carlton list management team, 6 years at 750-800 average is just crazy money for that long when other teams are picking up their half back flankers via rookie lists or late picks and paying them half the price it’s just lazy list management.

The net outcome to date, is that we've taken on Williams, Saad and Fogarty for effectively our pick #8.Adelaide
Every deal is independent of one another, but as a whole, the trade period have given us exactly what we were after.
There is no, 'Let's get a player and see wha we can do with them' It has been a targeted campaign.

Yes, we gave Williams one year too many and we paid more than we should have for Saad....but in the end....the only things that's going to matter, is for the rate of our improvement with this netting.

Once I 'get over' a couple of things, I can only look forward to next year...with or without CCurnow.

We're accepting mediocrity.

So, with Saad and Fogarty in we currently have a list of 38/4/1

38/4 has been the suggested list size, so we’ll need to cut 2 senior players. If list sizes don’t change we are good.

Just going to post this here. :)

We have to take two in the ND and it looks like we may not acquire any rookies this year.
Kennedy, Moore, Macreadie, Polson & Phillips on a knifes edge. So at least 2 have to fall from this group.
Owies is Cat B and can stay on another year, if we so wish.

Some handy inclusions to our rd1 team next year:
Curnow (I hope)
Williams
Saad
Fogarty (I hope)
Kemp
JSOS

Not behd.

Marchbank?

We know what we'll get from Saad and Williams and they make us immediately better.
The best thing though will be development: I want to see Dow, SPS, O'Brien, Stocker and Cuningham pick up their rating.....and if Macreadie is still on the list, I want to see a huge rise in standard from him.....and without injury.

Yep forgot Marchy. That's definitely 5 new starters (22%) in rd1 next year (if all fit). Potentially as many at 7 (32%)

We have many players that have genuine claims to being best 22 players and players that can make a difference.
It's our development that has to go to a new level and extract maximum value to the aforementioned, along with the likes of Honey, Philp & Ramsay.

As Liddle said; We don't really know what we have on our list yet.

Plowman Weitering Doc
Kemp Jones Saad

Walsh Cripps Newnes
TDK Williams Setterfield

Martin Levi SPS
Fisher McKay, Fogarty

Gibbons Murphy Willo Newman

The Rest: Betts, Jack, LOB Dow Cuners, Marchbank, Gov, Honey, Ramsay, Philp, Stocker, Cottrell, Kennedy, Pittonet

Injured: Charlie
I like it. Looks good arrow.

Think Plow is pretty settled where he is...the one we might push up the ground, should he ever be available, is Marchbank. One of the best runners at the club, would be interesting to trial him on a wing.
Nah Jones is nearly done so marchbank in defence

Hey guys - excuse the intrusion - what’s the thoughts on McGovern?

Staying on a much lower deal? - or could he go elsewhere?
Well, he's done f all to this point but I suspect that any thoughts on trying to shop him around were put on ice when C Curnow injured his patella again rolling over in bed.

Decent side but I get the feeling we haven't picked up Fogarty to play in a forward pocket

It totally sucks but could you imagine the uproar had we let Curnow walk out on the club because we wouldn’t offer him a long term deal, or if we never got a FA let alone one of Williams ability because we wouldn’t offer long term contracts. We are going to have to do it again very soon with Cripps and Harry to keep them.

Yep, especially the targeted approach bit.

Jurgen Klopp & Michael Edwards have taken this targeted approach at Liverpool FC in the last 4 years.

Not necessarily getting the best/most expensive players, but the absolute best players available to suit their system.

This has taken them to being arguably the best club team on the planet.

Now ... if we can just turn Teaguey into Jurgen Klopp

How often has it been noted of late that we look slow across the park?

Saad and Williams will make a massive difference.

Saad and Williams is a good start but we could still do with one or two more zippy types.
