We already have a player who brings aggression and competitiveness to the forward line in Fogarty. Difference being that he can football as well.

Sounds like Billy is doing a great job of keeping everyone honest at training which is great, but I suspect Berg will be in front of him for selection.

In the clamouring rush to see Billy crack heads, it seems to be largely forgotten that Elliot played some valuable minutes across 6-7 games last year as part of his development.

Im expecting his development to continue tracking upwards as a key player both forward and back up ruck.

Kicking 4 for the probables on Saturday is a good early sign that he’s up and about.

And for the record I still believe that a redo of the 2016 draft will eventually see Elliot elevated to a top 20 pick.

No doubt he does, but at 192cm he probably doesn't make the best FF bail out option. While he arguably has better contested marking skills than Tex, we don't want him going down the same path as being our long bail out kick too. The Fog also does this best work at CHF also, getting up the ground and using his huge boot. We are still going to need that FF who can chop out int he ruck.

Dont get me wrong I have no issues with Berg being ahead of Frampton at all, I just figured Billy may be ahead given he's performed much, much better than Berg in the SANFL playing as that aggressive, pack crashing FF.

Also lets be honest, 4 goals in intra club means sfa (imo). Encouraging that he kicked the most goals of the talls, but given the game was SO lopsided I'm not taking much away from it. Marsh should tell us a lot more hopefully.

At worst, at least Billy will keep Frampton and co honest as you said.

I want to see him in defence

It's weird that he hasnt been tried there.

One thing that really, really frustrated me with Gooch is he supposedly has this massive vertical leap, but we are still yet to see him use it once, let alone try and use it to his advantage.

He generally makes good decisions with the ball under pressure and sees options most players won't (as we've seen from his small spurts in the middle), so when Doedee went down I am very surprised we didn't try and use him as our intercept/loose defender. Move Milera to the mids and try Gooch back.

As some have already touched on, he doesn't rack up the ball as easily as other midfielders, so moving him to HB might help him with that. I reckon Gooch should have tried/try to model his game on Jeremy Howe. He's a similar type with a great leap, tidy skills and a bit of toe. It doesn't really look like Gooch is going to make it as a full time mid, and he gets lost out at HF, so playing a role similar to Howe might be his next best option imo.

Wow, you really don't like Billy Frampton do you Pete? Did he steal your GF or something?

Elliot needs to learn to hold a mark to become a good KPF.

I agree, gets his hands on a lot of incoming high ball but too many just don't stick, perhaps Pete can set him up with a Geckogrip sponsorship?

What? Because I’m not an excited fanboi about a player that’s played 3 games in 5 years?

I’m on a record here more than once that I don’t particularly like him as a player, no. But that doesn’t mean I don’t want to see him succeed and I’ll be as happy as anyone if he kicks 40 goals for us this year - I just don’t think he will.

I also just think it’s a little bit bizarre and more than a little bit creepy that people here are so excited about a player who, lets be honest, they just want to see thug around hitting people.

I’d thought that mentality was left in the 70’s.

Im just making an observation that this guy quite clearly rubs you the wrong way and it seems to bleed out into every post you make about him. Nothing wrong with that, but its just the first time i've seen you so actively against a bloke.

Also, after Josh Jenkins I think most people are just excited to watch a KPF who plays like a KPF. Regardless of talent it will be nice to see a guy in the tri stripe who throws his body at the contest. Whether he turns into decent player or not remains to be seen, but at the very least he's got that going for him!

I don't think many people want him to thug around.

People are bullish on him because he can actually hold a mark and compete unlike Elliot who's hands aren't good enough to make it as a KPF (at this stage)

How so?

In my original post I mentioned he was doing a great job at training, that I thought people have largely forgotten EH’s work last season and that I thought Billy was behind him in selection.

I also mentioned Fogarty is just as good an option for pack crashing but is a better player overall.

So in short I’ve concluded:
Billy doing well at training
EH did some good things last year
EH is in front for selection
Fogarty is as equally aggressive but a better player

So what about that original post bleeds hatred all over the page for Billy?

If he can hold a mark and compete at AFL level why has he played 3 games in 5 years?
I'm not saying he's good, because be isn't. But he has attributes that Elliot doesn't have.

I don't want or expect either to play because neither are very good

Well, lets be honest for a second here, your Fogarty Comment was clearly a lot more negatively toned then that. "We already have a player who brings aggression and competitiveness to the forward line in Fogarty. Difference being that he can football as well". Which is an obvious sideswipe at Frampton not being able to play at all.

Then there was the purposely not-so-friendly cracking heads comment, which is another unnecessary sideswipe at him based on your pre-conceived prejudice against the guy being a thug.

Also understand that I've never seen him play, and have literally no feelings about the guy as a person or a player outside of a 60 second "welcome to the club" clip on YouTube. So I am as impartial as it gets when it comes to Billy Frampton. I just find it fascinating to see the manner in which you have spoken about him since all the way before he was traded here.

lots of the boys are at the AFLW game today, Jones really has bulked up the Matthews kid potenial Rookie was all kitted up with them.
Fog is the most amazing specimen of a man good god!

also saw a guy in the crowd wearing the cursed red clash gurnsey.... I legit thought nobdy would have bought it such was the curse.

I've got one of those Red Guernsey's but it's a player worn one :)

I’ve seen him do some cowardly things on the field so no, he doesn’t impress me at all.

In terms of ability he’s done precisely zero in his career to indicate he will be anything other than a decent SANFL player.

If any other club had traded for him everybody here would have doubtless called it comedy gold. We trade for him and suddenly he’s best 22.

No objective analysis at all. Now maybe he comes here and makes it - I’ll be happier than anyone if he does, but right now he’s shown zero. So I really don’t get the hype to be honest.

That’s completely fair to have that opinion.

Personally, I’m so thirsty for a freaken KF who can high point a freaken mark every once and a while that I will take anyone right now. And I do feel like this kid’s highlights made it seem like he is more natural in that skill set then what we have.

For me that’s his way into the side, from there it’s up to him to make something of it!

More like 198cm

Classic bigfooty in action

‘ play youth play youth ‘

youth is Himmelberg and is talented but inconsistent and underprepared as usual youth

bigfooty ‘ forget him and give opportunities to the new guy who is 2 years older but done less at AFL level for another club ‘

let’s see how EH goes if he’s AFL fit ... I expect him to go ok
