No, it's funny how posters talk down a player after they have left the club... pretending that it will minimise our loss.

Keath will way out perform anyone we play at CHB. Bookmark it.

How many of our players made the team of the week last year many times?
No it not a compliant people have made up after he left.
I believe you should go back and read all the comments re Keath vs Hartigan, Most who are commenting today, also mentioned Keath issue with One on One defensive work and that he is a 3rd intercept defender.

And at this time Keath will not outperform anyone we have as CHB, He needs to play first, Has he Joined the full squad at training yet after his surgery stoped him from training prior to Christmas.

By the way, you do understand the Crows also play Talia at CHB, and This year I could see Talia CHB with McAsey at Full Back.

so with the graham cornes article about nicks, which adelaide senior player called nicks magical? its behind a paywall.

Well I guess it's near unanimous - just as well we traded out Keath given all his limitations (must have fluked all those AFL teams of the week... Which we had so many players making).

Would explain why we traded him for buggar all to the Dogs.
Keath was quite good in the role he was playing - 3rd unaccountable defender, who was able to drift across and take intercept marks. He was not, however, any good whatsoever when forced to play accountable 1-on-1 defence.

Though Keath was the best of the players we lost, he's also the one we'll miss the least - because we have Doedee ready to return. Doedee is a significant upgrade on Keath.

Keath was a good player, but you need to stop trying to portray him as something that he's not.

Talia usually plays full back. We are not going to play McAsey full back this year... well not in the vast majority of games any way. I doubt McAsey will even play most of the season.

How many Crows made multiple teams of the week in the AFL last season?

There have been posters saying Keath will be easily replaced... so I'm hardly making it up. He will be missed & imo given we traded him away for buggar all, should have traded Hartigan instead.
the crows wanted pick 13 for keath but the bulldogs wouldnt budge. if we didnt accept what they offered we would of got nothing in return. keath wouldnt re sign with adelaide because he wanted more than 2 years.

I think you're getting a bit carried away Kane...

I would have preferred we keep Keath but no way in hell was I happy to give him 4 years on top $$'s with his well documented durability issues and suspect one on one ability, that along with where our list revitalization is obviously headed. 2 years with a guaranteed 3rd if he met performance and durability triggers max and certainly not for the $$$'s he's reported to be getting at the Whitten Oval. I'm really confident we have his loss well covered in the long term with one proviso......McAsey and Worrell both stay long term.

Talia played serval game as the high defender last year. and I expect he will do the same this year.
If there are no injuries McAsey will play 10 plus games,
As for Keath how many times did he win as the 2nd tall defender? He has the talent to be one of the best intercept defenders in the comp if he stays on the park, but I doubt he will be a top elite AFL one on one defender, like Talia.

Do you honestly believe the Crows at this time needed a 28-year-old intercept defender to go with there 2 x28-year-old tall defenders?
Keath would have been a nice to have player, but we could not afford him to be on our list for another 4 years.
Not when we need to get games into Doedee, McAsey, Butts and Worrel in that same time frame.

McAsey, Worrell & Butts are all unknown talents right now. The 1st 2 won't play much if any AFL this season as won't be ready. Butts I hope gets a decent run.

Last season we played our best football when Keath dominated our defence. How many games did we win when Keath didn't have a significant influence.

If we end up just playing Hartigan for most of the season I'm going to be rather annoyed...

What $'s is Keath on at the Bullies?

a lot of people keep saying we'll finish bottom 6 because we've lost so many players. lets see who we've lost.

betts: he's finished.
jacobs: same thing.
jenkins: not in best 18. fog is in front.
greenwood. in and out the side. again, not best 18.
keath: the only real loss.
douglas: retired
otten: retired and has't been in best 18 for years.

I just dont get it. where are these huge losses?

I'd say a lot of those people are also expecting Gibbs, Sloane, Tex, Lynch and Talia to decline.

Keath went 9win and 9 losses, He did play well against Hawks, Port, Gold Coast x2, St Kilda, North, Freo.

As for Hartigan will be interesting to see how he goes under Nicks. but at this time it looking like McAsey and or Butts may get an opportunity to play the 1st game against the Swans. Both Hartigan and Doedee have yet to return to full training.

Think this is a bit of a stretch .....Hartigan was a small op, and it's only mid Jan

There's nothing to suggest Butts gets a game at all .....and McAsey might get a look in for 4-5 games ....got a lot of strength to add, to play his gamestyle against much bigger bodies

I'm expecting Sloane to decline ....Tex to have a good year, and Gibbs & Talia to stay at the same output

If Gibbs stays at the same output he will be playing Sanfl!

I'm expecting Sloane to have a better year than last year in his 1st year as solo captain.

If we got that for Keath we would have gotten 0 for Harto.

IMO he can be easily replaced, like Lever was and Doedee was. Doesn't mean hes a bad player, just means he plays a role we have had little trouble replacing in the past.

He will be missed in the short term, but results in the short term aren't super important

Im not expecting either to decline but if I had to pick one of them it would be tex. he's already pretty slow.
Legspeed has never been a strength of his game though. Tex has always been about skill, and he has more skill than almost everyone his size.

Sloane will still be the same, hopefully we surround him with 2 way running midfielders and he can do some damage

You forgetting we offer Keith a 2-year deal, McAsey will play 10 plus this year and most games in 2021, in 2022 he will be established,
And for KPD it's beyond 2021 we need to look, Talia and Hartigan are close to the same age, along with Keith. keeping all of them would have created a large hole in 3 plus years.
At this stage, by the time Talia ready to go McAsey will have 3 years.

And Butts is not far behind Keith even better at his disposal and One on One more reliable as well, Based on Last year he just needs more size to really take on the giants.
No, Keith was not worth a longer contract than 2/3years base on all our experience KPD being the same age. not when it was already decided we were going into a mini rebuild.
I like how you still think the AFC will follow this ( very sound) method

The point is we basically gave away one of our most influential players for unders. Good teams don't do this!

He can't easily be replaced in the short term & he will be missed as he was our most influential defender when we were playing our best football last year. We had too many lockdown types, so we trade away our tall defender who intercepts, creates & uses the ball thr best.

If we play Talia, Hartigan & Kelly in the same side after trading out Keath for peanuts, I'm going to be very annoyed!

Guess we wait and see when both Hartigan and Doedee join the main group and If they play any preseason games, If not then they will need replacing.

Also, Butts has put on some weight and Close to 90kg and McAsey in 91kg, Yes they need some weight but they are not that far off some existing KPD's.

Squad depth. Our best 22 should look good enough to be quite competitive but if injury hits we are in real problems on field
