It's not hysteria. It just questioning those that throw the word 'racist' around like confetti, but brush Buden's choice off as not being racist when it meets the pure definition.
So people only supporting old white men for Prez or VP for 200 years is not racism, but an old white man looking to broaden the appeal of his ticket and give a chance to an under-represented group is racism?

Did he? Link? And not a broken link like Balls Up's poor attempt.

Oh he didn't say it yet every media person on both sides knew that Biden was going to pick a black woman.

Did you know before the announcement that Biden was going to pick a black woman?

There's those old white guy again.

Harris went up against these old white guys and lost. Are DNC supporters racist?

I'm sure I read Biden saying he wanted a black female as his running mate. I certainly remember him saying he wanted a female.

Who cares though... The only people who (are pretending to) give a shit are Trump fans with faux outrage.

After decades of the same twisted swine running through these positions it's always good to see a change - Biden doesn't help in this regards. FWIW I'm a fair way apart on my views of the world from Kamala Harris, but one thing you have to say about her is she is very smart and on the ball.

I went and googled it and he said "if he wins the nomination, he'd prefer his running mate be a woman or person of color." That definitely does not mean "I am only choosing a black woman even if she isn't qualified or worthy of being VP" as the conservatives here claim.

No, because she had a fair chance at the nomination and people didn't think she was the best. Are you now going to claim that women and black people have had the same opportunity during most of American history? I suppose Harriet Tubman didn't make VP because people didn't like her foreign policy views?

Who would claim that?

Biden came out and said he would only choose a black women as his candidate.
Perhaps you can do better and than Balls In and provide a verifiable link that he said that.

I have only seen that it would be a woman.

Who cares though... The only people who (are pretending to) give a sh*t are Trump fans with faux outrage.
I actually care as they are ready to believe the 'fake' news as spoken by Fox and continue to repeat it.

At least one person has said in this thread that VP picks of the past have earned their position through merit and implied Harris didn't. Hard for them to claim those people were the most competent when vast swathes of the populace simply didn't have the same opportunities.

She's a DA, AG and US Senator. Hard to say she doesn't have merit.

The fact that the VP would be a black woman takes the shine of it a bit and raises questions.

In my opinion if the Dems wanted a 'pragmatic moderate' as it is falsely claimed Harris is, they would have been better going with Amy Klobuchar. She was highly successful in the primaries and I think would win back the housewives that turned to Trump in 2016.

I'm just not sure what Harris brings. Biden has more Black support than her so she isn't bringing more Black votes to the table.

Again, "if he wins the nomination, he'd prefer his running mate be a woman or person of colour". Nowhere did it say he committed to choosing a black woman.

I'm just not sure what Harris brings. Biden has more Black support than her so she isn't bringing more Black votes to the table.
It was never about the black vote, he had that sewn up long ago. It was about broadening his appeal when it comes to the average voter, not necessarily just segments of the electorate like black people or Californians.

Harris is a headkicker though. Biden needs that so he can stay out of the gutter and let his VP sling the mud (trump has the opp situation, where pence is his moderating presence, allowing him to bludgeon)

I like Klobuchar, but she lacks that ability. Also you need to look at the weaknesses of the two in the primaries. Harris was that (1) her campaign was horribly run, and (2) she was seen as a candidate for nothing but being elected (in part due to her shitty campaign). Klobuchar on the other hand was very hot and cold, would engage brilliantly one day, but then be beiger than beige the next.

Biden doesnt need a VP with their own agenda, he needs one who can be a trump punching bag. thats Harris, not Klobuchar

Do you know for a fact that Trump eliminated anyone from his list of VP candidates?

Was going to write my own response to this, then you did it for me!

:tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy:

Ya can't make this up. Yes, we knew. In much the same way as everyone knew Trump was going to pick a white guy.

You guys simply must stop making my argument for me :tearsofjoy:

As for the walk which you seem overly obsessed with. My view is that commonly known tear gas as in CS and CN gas wasn't used but pepper balls were.

Much like this current discussion around Trump and Biden's VP strategy - a distinction without a difference, according to official CDC guidelines. And a fair bit different from your black and white take in the Trump thread at the time.

Thanks though, always good to know the track record of posters when assessing how much notice to take of their posts.

Not sure if its been mentioned in the thread before (please don't ask me to read the last 400 pages) but does anyone else find Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez completely insufferable?

Her whole persona is so transparently fake that I sit there watching the most contrived phrases escaping her lips while pondering what kind of human being could ever take her seriously? Heck I almost admire the countless years it would've taken to sculpt this obvious construction of a personality not to mention the effort that goes into hiding the real person behind it, but at the very least that makes it impossible to trust her with any real power.

True. Ones that overuse emojis are usually low on my list.

How does she broaden his appeal. She just lurches him more to the left.

Because it gives him a point of difference to a field that otherwise is very old, very white and very male. He looks more like a candidate for the 21st century with Harris by his side, rather than the fossil he actually is. Also plenty of people respect a District Attorney and Attorney General.

I don't know why you are posting his in here, it doesn't have anything to do with Presidential nominations.

But... what about her is "so transparently fake"?
