Far be it for me to defend Kamala, who I do think is pretty awful, but when did Biden say he chose her because she's black?

There's a San Francisco clique of centrist liberals who hold the positions of Governor of California and Speaker of the House, and who Harris is very much in with. I think that may have had something more to do with his decision than Biden just choosing a black woman at random (and yes, of course Biden had previously said he would choose a woman as Vice President, and no doubt there was a figuring that a woman of colour would be a benefit, but her being a powerful figure in the Democratic establishment is the primary reason of her being chosen).

So link us to your post in 2016 having a similar meltdown about Pence being selected coz he was religious.
What evidence do you have that Pence was selected due to his religion? The US is a predominately white christian country so its hardly odd that some of them become politicians/VP's/presidents. In contrast Biden openly stated that he wanted a woman of colour and that is racist/sexist because he specifically excluded 93% of Americans from consideration for the role.

Kamala was a racist appointment. Straight up. The democrats were open about it. Trump appointing a white guy is not evidence of the same.

Racist against who?

Racist against who?
White people, it's a wonder why their hasn't been an uproar over Biden's naked sexism too. Won't someone think of all the unqualified men who've found such fruitful employment in the Trump administration.

I'm having a cry because minorities and women are being used.
Actually, they're being rewarded for voting for Biden.

But then, Taylor has failed to show that the appointment was racist, ignored how standard politics works, and ignores centuries of white men dominating the role.

But lets flip this on its head and take Taylor's argument at face value. Let's pretend that the appointment was solely based on her race and gender. Would this be racist? Well, only if you believe affirmative action is racist. And we know which people usually argue that (and why). I think Taylor is painting herself into a very small box.

It's the same way folks looked away while the blacks copped it in the neck in South Africa for years but as soon as positive discrimination was introduced there to reduce a grotesque racial imbalance and they suddenly got very woke about racism.

Biden picked someone who spread his appeal and made his ticket more viable. You're simply having a cry because the situation now favours minorities and women rather than white men. Shame on you.

How has she made his ticket more viable?

VP picks usually don't mean a lot but with Biden saying he is s one-termer it really puts a focus on the Dems pick.
Harris comes from a blue state so won't be flipping her home state. She is against fracking, which will cost the Dems states.
She is despised by the Bernie supporters who see her as a Top Cop during a time when they want a revolution.
She is not a popular candidate.

Broadens the image of the ticket by not associating it purely with old white men.

This isn't the most important thing, and I think its effect is somewhat overstated. Paul Ryan didn't win Wisconsin for Romney.

She is against fracking, which will cost the Dems states.
Which ones? The Dakotas were never voting for Biden anyway.

She is despised by the Bernie supporters who see her as a Top Cop during a time when they want a revolution.

Don't make the mistake of thinking Bernie supporters are going to swing this election. If that were the case, he would have won the nomination. Harris is designed to appeal to women and middle-aged people, not young people of any race. I doubt any Bernie supporters were planning to vote for Biden and would reconsider because of Harris.

Biden has a million problems with him that would scare off anyone with a progressive ideology, unless they were holding their nose and voting for him purely to get rid of Trump. Harris isn't changing anything for those people.

Kamala Harris utterly took to and destroyed Trump's "presidency" in her maiden 20 minute speech.
It was hard to listen to, yes. Highlights were blaming Trump for the current violence in democrat cities, high unemployment, and health impact of the virus (which she claimed is no different to Ebola that only killed 3 people in the US because Obama/Biden)

yes, because of course the President of the country has zero control over the levels of civil unrest, unemployment and handling/management of public health crisis's...

The buck stops with the one at the top. People blamed Obama for everything under the sun, turnabout is fair play.

Riiiiight. So Pence being chosen was law of averages, not a specific strategy to appeal to, as you've said, a predominately white christian country.

I think the idea is you're supposed to make arguments in support of your own position, rather than mine :tearsofjoy:

Appointing a black woman as VP is racist?

Some people need to learn English again and find out what the word racism means

Loving the usual suspects in the last few pages frothing in rage because a black woman got on the ticket
Oh really? I thought for 200 years black people and women rarely ever made it into power because they were simply not competent to be President or Vice President. Even **** ups like Andrew Johnson were far better leaders than the likes of Harriet Tubman, or so people here led me to believe.

If the Democratic National Convention was still up for grabs Harris would be throwing this nomination back in his face and telling him that she is a strong, capable woman who doesn't need to be selected to fill some quota to try and dupe the American voters into choosing another old white man.

...and she would be right.

And if Pence was still in the running vs Trump in 2016 he'd be telling him that he is a devout man of faith who isn't interested in propping him up with religious folk and duping them into choosing an antithesis of Christian values.

This is starting to get surreal, its like you've just come across the breadth and entirety of US politics in the last 24 hours :drunk:

Just for a laugh, what made Pence the best candidate? Over the more popular Rubio and Cruz? Perhaps Taylor can finally help us out with this one :tearsofjoy:
