Lol seriously can we just have a ban on posting things ol clickbait Kornes says…

none of it is interesting and it’s all designed to just stir people up.

Hodgey wants a new rule! Hodgey gets a new rule.

No more clickbait shit from Cornes in here.

Also:
Can we also threadban Rendell quotes. The bloke is senile.
Done ✔️

How do the blues have spare cash for Cerra?

What am I missing?

Re-signed Mackay, Cripps, C.Curnow, Weitering, Docherty medium-long term all on presumably at least decent coin.

Brought in Saad, Martin, Mcgovern and Williams all on presumably good coin in recent years.

I get that other players are going to leave and free up space like Betts, Casboult etc. Still seems odd that the blues could afford to bring in so many seemingly expensive recruits year after year.

I understand that Williams is on a favourable contract. Can't explain the rest though.

Michael Hurley had back surgery 4 years ago.....went on and played good footy

Jamie Elliot had back surgery 5 years ago.....went on and played good footy

Jack Bytel had back surgery 3 years ago....has come on and now Saints best 22.

Why is this a perceived death sentence for some posters and thus having his trade value plummeting?

How old was Hurley 4 years ago? Elliot 5 years ago?

Gunner is 30 in a few months. Trade value generally decreases pretty dramatically at this point, let alone having missed a year and a bit of footy and on a reported 700k.

He is coming off back surgery. Kidding yourself.

Depends, is the bloke with the most grand final goals of any current player worth pick 18 for a team gunning for a premiership in the next few years?

Pick 18 isn't the same value to every club. Expendable to Brisbane, useful for us.

All Australian squad and Best & Fairest 12 months ago. Brisbane is being raised as a possibility for the following reasons:

1. Link with Fagen.
2. In premiership window and Gunston is a proven finals star.
3. Hipwood missing the next 12 months.
4. He has been durable his whole career until this season.
5. Brisbanes medical team has fixed Grant Birchall, Lincoln McCarthy and Joe Daniher.
6. Brisbane have picks 15 and 18. They can afford to lose one of those first rounders with no real harm done if it doesn't work out.

Completely realistic to offer up Gunston for 18 if he requests it etc.

These are healthy pro athletes with experts doing the surgeries. The age isn't a factor. It's not like we're comparing them to 60 year olds.....they're in their primes

Being on 700k have f**k all impact.......no idea why you've brought that up

so he's 29 turning 30......been injury free his whole career til now. Sounds like the perfect pick up for a contending team.

Can't see any good point you've raised

I’ve said it before. He’s a match winner. Give him 4 shots inside 50 in a final and it could be the difference between a win and loss.

I have memories of some costly misses in big finals! Regardless, I agree he’s a star, but I would be surprised if we get an offer better than second round given the injury history. The bloke is a hawks champ and we should only trade if he wants out. So far there is no sign of that, apart from rubbish Facebook sites and speculation from football ‘journalists’ of ill repute.

Is 1 injury a "history"?

He's missed 7 games since mid 2012!

Yeah I agree he’s otherwise very durable. Second operation on a dodgy back might be seen as worse than a 30 year old coming back after ACL - would you be happy if we parted with a first round draft pick? Unless its one of those rubbish clubs with more picks than they know what to do with or you are absolutely sure he’s gonna drag your team to the finish line.

Only if we pay pretty much all his salary. Otherwise there is beyond zero percent chance they would go for it.

If it was us in 2012 after losing a preliminary then a grand final and Roughead went down with an ACL, would you be keen to acquire the services of current year Jack Gunston? Especially if we had two first round selections to play with in negotiations?

well f**k me, back surgery. Let's trade him for pick 100 then.

The bloke isn't dead.
Imo he is worth a mid second rounder. If we pay salary then a very different story and pick 18 is not unrealistic.

I never said trade him btw.

Then they’re not serious about winning a GF. If you don’t want to lose a player and Gunston is willing to go there, you just get it done and move on.
How do you reckon their cap is going? They added neale on huge coin. Daniher on massive coin. Cameron on massive coin. They have to pay mcluggage and blokes like bailey soon. You really think they have a spare 700k for Gunston's current salary? Hence I am sure they would be interested in an a grade talent if they could fit them in their cap. That's our leverage

Yikes.

Yeah, I get your point now… and it’s a good one too.

We've kicked around the idea of Gunston on our board and while he would be a great addition if fit, the money would be a problem even with you paying some of it - we've paid Neale and Daniher to bring them in, and in the last 12 months re-signed Cameron, Andrews, Rayner, McCluggage, Bailey and Starcevich on what can't be small $.

All the talk from our club has been that we will go to the draft this year and while we aren't in a sydney or collingwood situation, our cap is tight.

with 2 first Rd picks you can address the now ( Hipwood out for 12 mths ) and draft for the future .

We are NOT going to dump Hartigan one year into a 2 year deal, just because an equally old, but slightly better version is available.

It's not even worth thinking about, let alone type on the internet for others to read.
Although I agree, the thought has crossed my ming regarding Phillips.

With Day, CJ, Bramble, Scrimshaw potentially moving up, I don't see where he fits.

Hi guys my first post. Like to know if this is a win win.

Hawks give suns.. howe, obrien and our next highest pick either from selling off another player or what we have pick 21 in return we get there pick 3.

Only reason i suggest this is cochrane stated we need players not draft choice. those two would add depth with howe having a very up side. Obrien found a nice niche in defence. they still get another pick in that could end being first round.

The next 2 years they would get far greater value out of these two than a pick 3. perhaps year 3 onwards the pick three may really shine but can suns risk speculative pick against two sure things? Us we can afford to invest in a potential gun in 3 or more years time.

If not howe / obrien would cousins or impey be options?

Yep. It would be a needs based trade similar to like when we traded pick 18 + Savage for McEvoy. We were in the premiership window and needed a ruckman badly. Also worth keeping in mind that at this point in time Brisbane have the best medic team in the AFL so if there was a deal to be looked at I’m sure they could get him going again.

If Howe and Obrien and a pack are worth pick 3 I will drive them up there tonight

We would be very silly to trade Impey.

Though cashing in on Howe and TOB whilst their value is at its highest is a good idea.
