Any love for Tyson Stengle?

He is DFA.

Has kept out of the media all year, so nay have turned the corner.

So it’s apparently close enough to a done deal, so I’d like to hear honest opinions re Clark from those that have seen a lot of him play. Could he end up an a grader down the track? I’m assuming he will start on a wing round 1?

Honest opinion of Clark ? Puts his body on the line, can break lines with his speed , thumping kick , just what we need and quite possibly an A grader in time if not B. But from what I’ve seen , I’ve liked.I think Geelong would love to keep him to be honest.

Colyer, Acres, Lobb.

We love over paying for sh*t players.
You could swap those players for Ryan, Kelly, Pickett, Parker but
why would you
The picks we got from the Mcarthy trade also netted us Sean Darcy
Pick 3 was H McCluggage , Darcy was pick 38 a late second rounder, so we may have found another path?

Sharp at GC has shown more and on the position we require. Doesn’t hurt that he is an E Freo product😜
I’d give them that second rounder in a heartbeat, his value will probably escalate, why bother with Brodie?

I spoke to his gf's mum just before the draft and he was desperately hoping to be picked up by Freo.

Hopefully a few of the WA boys will get homesick, it’s a credit to our system that most of kids drafted have made the grade in AFL.
It works for WC, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them take Johnson, Bazzo and Sheldrick. G Clark should be looked at too.

Anyone else getting some real red flag vibes on this Clark trade?
In any reasonable neutrals viewpoint, he’s worth about pick 30. I think pick 27 is overs to be honest. Dont care that he’s contracted. The actual difference in the trade value of contracted v uncontracted players is not that great historically and I think that aspect is being completely overstated here. Tim Kelly was OOC yet the eagles were still fleeced in 2019 for example.
The absolute cheek of Geelong looking for pick 8 for Clark. Are they seriously having a laugh?
One of the biggest red flags is that Geelong would and should not be playing such hardball if Clark has made it clear to them he wants to be traded to the dockers. If he went into the Geelong office and said “guys, I want to make it clear that I wish to be traded to Freo, I don’t want to stay here” then the cats would be left under no illusions that they need to trade him. Why does he want to come to our club? I’ve heard he’s a massive Eagles fan. I wouldnt mind that so much. But is he half-hearted about playing for freo? I don’t want someone who isn’t committed to the club 110%.
Why else are Geelong making ridiculous trade requests?
I fear he’s just looking for a payday and a good time in perth… wouldn’t be the first time for the dockers 😡😡😡

a second concern is the reported lack of professionalism. Wing requires the most discipline of any position in the AFL. Gut runners like Langdon and Sam Walsh are the prototype for successful wingers. Can’t think of too many good wingers with question marks over their prep and their workrate.
Clark will need to be as hardworking and disciplined as Brayshaw and Tabs to make it as a successful winger in the AFL

We also need to consider the opportunity cost - if trading for Clark means we miss out on say JVR, then is it worth it? Big no - we can use the draft capital far better.

I pretty sure Swans, GWS , GC And Bris aren’t impacted by the NGA rule change. They can match for bids. I don’t know if they have any. Also, It’s only outside top 40 if they are metro NGA otherwise outside top 20.

Thanks mate ...looking at list still seems to be a 2 place drop

Anyone think the Brodie stuff is a little weird? Imagine if a club was circling Blakely with a 3 year deal lol.
Not myself. I buy the idea that he costs them too much and is a mid-fielder starved of opportunity behing players perceived to be better. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. But that's how I'm interpreteting it thus far. He's a former top ten pick so worth a trial I would've thought.

Look at Brodie's numbers when he's played.

Gold Coast may not have Fyfe, Mundy, Serong, Brayshaw etc to win their games but the players they have running around in the state leagues are more talented than our Peel boys and a lot of them should be playing AFL footy.

My view is that too many good picks for Gold Coast will distort the competition after half of them leave for **** all after 2-4 years in the VFL and become decent players elsewhere. Poor, lazy move by the AFL

It goes without saying that Gold Coast’s player development isn’t up to standard and a lot of players have struggled to maximise their best potential, but either not being able to cement dominant roles or, were always secondary options but never had a primary/dominant player to play alongside.

Look at Peter Wright, he’s certainly not a primary key forward… but he hardly played in his last two years but now with Essendon has showed, that he can at least contribute at the top level.

Brodie was likely expected to be a top two/three mid at the Gold Coast, but because he couldn’t fulfil that role playing against the competition’s best, they no longer see him as viable.

He will likely have an expectation of being our sixth+ best mid, which might end up being his appropriate AFL role.

I have red flags and they are a bit different to yours. It's how we seem to be handling our negotiating position. Have supposedly started with what should have been our final offer. Fyfe and Pavlich coming out in the media and essentially saying Clark is coming to Freo. J-Lo expressing our need for someone just like Clark. Reports of a 4 year contract on the table. Quite a few things which will make Geelong think they can screw us over like the Weller/GC trade. I don't for one second think we will go that far with pick 8, but I fear we are going to do shitty pick swaps/splits to get something in the teens and then hand it over to Geelong.

I also don't believe Geelong actually care if he goes, and are just posturing to make it seem like he is worth more than reality. They set a precedent themselves very clearly with Fogarty. Pick 41 in value for a very similar player (top 20-ish pick, reasonable debut year, then two years of nothing). So Clark is contracted, it bumps it up a bit. But we will have been played big time if we end up parting with much more than 27.

Agreed. There’s a lot of reasons why this trade makes me nervous. Jordan Dawson will be traded for something like pick 17 or 18.
Are you telling me that Clark is anywhere near as good a player? No hecken way we should be trading anything close to similar value for a guy not in the best 26 players at Geelong.
