Trading Lobb is the wrong move, there's no nuance or debate to this topic, it's just a bad move. We'd look like idiots getting rid of him for hopeful picks.

Where would you rank Lobb in our batting order of most important players? I wouldn't have him in the top ten, yet his salary puts him at number 2 or number 3. That makes him tradeable. An extra $700,000 in the cap makes it much easier to keep Young, Cerra, Serong, etc.

I think also people are rating Lobb on what he should be providing rather than what he actually provides.

We don't beat Sydney and Collingwood this year without Lobb. Probably our two best wins too.

I would be ok trading lobb if there's a good pick on offer. On top of that we would need an established KPF walk through our doors if we want to remain competitive in the short term.

Watching the Adelaide Vs Essendon game tonight only solidifies that we can’t give up lobb. Watching them kick down the line to Billy Frampton with a fleet of smalls just didn’t work at all, even though Frampton tried his best to compete in the air.

Now obviously Frampton is a C/ D Grader and both tabs and treacy are better jpg options from the get go, but if one or both go down in the year we would be kicking it long down the line to who exactly???

The oppositions intercepting defenders.

Trading lobb is an utterly brain dead idea.

Unless he wants out it seems detrimental to our future.
People are getting impatient but we are closer to finals than they think.
Next year the list will look more attacking, I’m sure of it.
We have one more draft to finish off five years of quality people and players. Getting rid of Lobb just weakens an area that needs the most attention.
It could be a real strength for the club, we need more options not less.
Treacy could also play that medium tall role, going by his draft bio he had some inside mid appeal.
Our inside 50 numbers are reasonable, imagine if we had a forward line like WC?
We would be well entrenched in the eight now, and for years to come.
That is without even thinking who will combine with Henry, Motlop?

Can CCJ replace Lobb if he decides to go?is CCJ that good?

On SM-A205YN using BigFooty.com mobile app

A South Australian would come from the 3 time premiers who clearly have him in their succession plans to a West Australian team who haven't played finals in 6 years?

And no he isn't that good. Not yet at least, and anyone who is showing the promise to be dramatically better than Lobb would cost a lot more than Lobb would garner in terms of trade currency.

I am actually dumbfounded that after we have finally looked good for a few games playing 2-3 genuine tall forwards that people want to go back to the days of one KPF.

Williams/JVR etc aren't going to replace even Lobb's output for probably at least 2-3 years.

His salary is so wildly irrelevant to the discussion when he plays the single most important position on our list.

Yes.

Pretty timely reminder of the value of a decent, seasoned KPF.

At worst he takes the opposition's 1st/2nd defender and provides a chop out for Darcy, reducing the pressure on our younger forwards.

It's slightly perplexing to me that people don't see that the ideal situation is to retain our current crop of KPFs AND hit the draft this year.

If he can do this or something close to it every week, that’s what he should be doing. He goes missing too often in my opinion. Great game today though.

Think we need to be realistic, Lobb isn't going to do that every week and Hawthorn's defense isn't exactly full of AA players.

In saying that, I think we hamstring ourselves far more by trading him away for a pick and then hoping that any young KPFs we draft this year are able to develop ridiculously quickly/Taberner chooses next year to finally play a full season.

It'd just be an unnecessary risk when we should still be able to land a good young forward this year with our current draft capital + keep Lobb. Then if he's still inconsistent we'd have the luxury of replacing him with younger players with 2-3 seasons of senior football under their belt.

Wierd logic. Try " how do we replace him?"
Then...how much would that cost?

Very rational thoughs, you don't often see those on here
