Top 3 pick for mine

Like I said in the trade thread if we’re open to doing it he’s the guy I’d move the 2022 1st to get our hands on. I think a pre-draft deal with Fremantle is the one for Carlton’s 1st if he’s still on the board. They’d be happy with our 2022 1st to help land Neale in 2022 and an Andrews/ Daicos draft would inject a lot into our best 22, IMO.

Only as a live trade, to guarantee you were getting him I assume?

Correct. It would be a scenario such as this:

1. Daicos (Collingwood match bid)
2. Darcy (Bulldogs match bid)
3. JHF
4. Callaghan
5. Ward
6. Hobbs
7. Gibcus
8. Andrew (Collingwood live trade with Fremantle)

If Andrew’s off the board at say 6 I would only consider it if Gibcus is still there, but that’s line ball.

Given our future first is a likely top 3 pick, a straight swap for pick 8 this year seems a little light on from our perspective. Maybe we get a future third thrown back in as well?

A pick 8 with 12 months in a professional system and hopefully 10-15 senior games under their belt? What if we had Andrew at 3 on our draft board? I’d ask for it, but if I’m Freo I’m declining.

Surely Freo just take Andrew themselves if he's still there at 6 and he is as good as his highlight reel shows - he could be a real game-changer (pardon the pun) for them and I'd back JL to get the absolute best out of him every day of the week.

Darcy and Andrew is also a combo which could terrify the rest of the league 2-3 years from now, if Andrew's development follows a similar track to Jackson's...

Because maybe they rate Aymiss higher? Because maybe they don’t know that Andrew is the one we want? Because maybe they’d rather the trade capital to acquire Neale?

This is all hypothetical based around us rating Andrew. At least now you understand why I mentioned him in the trade thread…

Lots of maybes in there. In the name of full disclosure - I hadn't actually seen much of Andrews tape beforehand, but he certainly does have "it" and isn't just another athletic freak with suspect football ability so I can see why you're bringing this one up.

If we telegraph that we'll pull the trigger on the "pre draft deal" when Andrew is available at pick 6 then they'll know exactly who we want, and could be similarly keen on Andrew (not a stretch given that Lobb is leaving their tall forward / ruck stocks are otherwise pretty thin) and not expecting him to fall to pick 6?

I think every club is looking at Gawn and Jackson and what they just did in the GF and thinking to themselves "wow, if it's the right kid then a gun ruck and a strong ruck/forward prospect can actually work together very effectively in tandem without detracting from each other".

I wouldn't for one moment malign Freo for pulling out of any "pre-draft deal" if the Andrew (or someone else they were keen on) was available at pick 6 and they wanted to use the pick themselves.

We'll have to see how things shake out over the next 6 weeks of course, but I suspect that Andrews' stocks may have just shot up significantly in the eyes of a lot AFL recruiters over the past 72 hours.

Interesting discussion on Andrews. I can see him going later in the first round personally. Top 5? Not sure about that.

He has that Much Upside and 2nd best KPF prospect in the Draft behind Darcy

Would you play Andrews forward?

I'd do that. Pull the trigger a year early if theres someone worth it. Andrews looks crazy special.

I’ve gotta acknowledge that I stuffed up and it’s Andrew. I think it was autocorrect, but I’m not sure. He could play at either end or through the ruck. I think for me as a KPP from what I can gather he’s got more scope as a KPD, but realistically I’d be using him wherever he’s needed most and it’s more important to get him to 50 matches than his role early days.

I’m at pains to point out that I’m not 100% certain on this either and I agree to a point with Soups. I think his high water mark is as good as anyone’s in this draft, but I haven’t seen enough to be confident he won’t be a Mason Cox that can only pull that out once every 4-6 weeks. For me it’s one I’d leave entirely up to the recruiters because they may share those doubts or they may look at where he was at U16’s to where he is now and ask where he’ll be at 21? My gut says he’s one that should go to a club with a good development program who’ll give him opportunity early which is why I don’t see the Richmond connection because they’re win now. As a landing spot Essendon are the one if you ask me.

Andrew is not going at 6, probably not even top 10, he is very raw and a huge risk at pick 6.

There’s no way a team would give up pick 2 in this draft for a random future first.

In theory, assuming the cohorts are equally talented, they shouldn’t give up pick 2 this year for a guaranteed pick 2 next year, which our 2022 first most certainly is not.
Wed need to add a player who could help them now.

Like Sideass or Howe.

No trading of our future first unless it's for an established star.

Just my two cents but is there any point in us trading for an established star at this point? I'm happy to hit the draft for top end talent the next couple of years then chase the established star when our group starts to mature together.

I wouldn't do it for a 25+ year old. But would definitely consider it for a 22 year old if you could get one projecting to be a star.
