Both Keane and Noble are still rookies as we speak and Wilson is still a Cat B rookie. Chugg will be delisted temporarily.

If we can nominate Keane as a Cat B rookie again, and I see no reason why we can't as he is still eligible for one more year now, then we will have 32* on the senior list, 4** cat A rookies and 2 cat B rookies.

* we have two senior listed players retired (Greenwood and Mayne), one traded out (Lynch), three delisted (Thomas, Sier, Rantall) and two traded in (Lipinski and Kreuger) so that works out to 36 - 6 + 2 = 32 senior-listed players remaining.

** we have one Cat A rookie retired (Tohill - Cat B), one delisted (Chugg - Cat A) and one moved to the Cat B list (Keane), so that works out to 6 -2 = 4 cat A rookies remaining.

Oh, i thought Noble signed a 2 year deal mid year (https://www.afl.com.au/news/647832/out-of-favour-tiger-daniel-rioli-parks-talks-hot-pie-john-nobles-form-to-be-rewarded) and Ginnivan a 1 year (along with Ruscoe) (https://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/news/1022370/ruscoe-and-ginnivan-extend)

Were these deals done as rookie deals?
You can still stay on the rookie list up to 4 years with the new rules for 2022. Ginnivan has only been on the rookie list for 1 year, so next year is his 2nd 1 year contract.
Ruscoe signed for 2 years (not a rookie)
There hasnt been anything official about noble, but I read the 2 years too, but Mihochek signed a multi year deal when on the rookie list. But in saying that, they could promote Noble to the senior list.

Any interest in Lonie or Charlie Constable? I haven't paid any attention to their careers but we have an early pick in the PSD right?

Constable yea Lonie no.

Will have to check the logistics to make sure it’s possible but Daicos + Dib + Constable + Brander would be my ideal combination with future picks also coming in.

any good indigenous small forwards in the draft can we draft the next leon davis

There are a few indigenous kids I’d be keen for the club to consider.

Isaiah Dudley and Jesse Motlop are probably the players who play the most like Leon.

I really also like Arthur Jones from WA. Has a quite a few tricks. But probably more like a Shai Bolton, silky mover type, than Leon.

Although I’m still keen on Paul Curtis as that Xfactor forward prospect. I read that he is of islander descent (Tongan or Samoan), with his mum representing that nation in rugby. So I’m a bit surprised he isn’t part of North’s NGA (which I think covers Western Jets)

Not sure about the draft but Boyd Woodcock just delisted at Port. Any interest there? Tough team to break into at Port.

Thanks for that - matches up with what I had, except I had assumed Keane could no go back to Cat B and that Noble would be promoted to senior list.

If we can put Keane to Cat B and keep Noble as Cat A that provides us a lot more flexibility at the drafts.

And makes GW's comments at Thursday's presser seem more reasonable - when he said we might take 4 picks at the National Draft.

I would be. I only watched his SANFL game against South’s. But he had the ball on a string and absolutely destroyed them.

Easily BOG and uses the ball really well.

Surely he gets another chance somewhere.

Naish.. or left footer Matthew Ling.. both DFAs and probably better options than re-rookie Chugg...

Thoughts Knightmare ?

I can't say I'd personally explore any of them, nor would I re-rookie Chugg who was a strange longshot or a choice.

Naish is the most capable of the three, but as per my earlier comments, I see no need to add more outside players. The team needs more contested players stylistically rather than more guys who can't win their own ball in the cases of Naish and Ling. If a midfielder, even if it's someone on the outside is routinely sub 5cp per game, that should be an immediate red flag. Even on the flanks, you really need better than that.

I didn't think we would be able to move someone from the Cat A rookie list to the Cat B rookie list? Has the club said that, or is that the assumption? It'd definitely be good if we can.

With potentially 4 to add to the list I’d be hoping for Daicos, a small forward, a key defender and then either a rebounding skilled half back or mature ruck as back up.

I think we'll definitely target a small forward. We should be able to find someone at the tail end of the draft. I'd like Schlensog as a DFA. Otherwise I hope we go best available. Our picks will be late so we're probably not going to have a lot of choice.

Dib would be the small forward wouldn't he?

Otherwise I would prefer Boyd Woodcock as a DFA over Naish. Woodcock not only knows where the goals are but he can find the ball when given time further up the ground. Had 27 possessions (game high) in Port SANFL side in their last game this year. Still only young and projects as a Shai Bolton type for me; dangerous around goal and midfield potential.

Woodcock averaged less than a goal a game in the SANFL so doesn't project as a guy that will improve that in the AFL as a small forward.

It'll be interesting if we see Dib as a back or forward.

Whatever happens happens, I’m just happy to be getting Daicos and hopefully Dib. Players with the capability of Daicos come along rarely and such a high picks for us is a bonus considering we gave away our first round pick. Not fussed at all about points who’s on first and what’s on second. Daicos is ours so the rest of the league can suck it.
It’s Watts on second….. ;)

And Hu is the first baseman

My understanding of the rules is that both Tohill and Keane were classified as Cat B rookies coming in (and still are), but we had to use a Cat A spot for one of them because we already had Wilson as our first Cat B rookie. Hence up to this point one of Keane or Tohill were previously a Cat B rookie taking up a Cat A rookie list spot.

Keane would still be eligible to be a Cat B rookie under the rules, given that all rookies can now be extended for a further year. I'm not 100% certain of course because it's AFL house and rules at that level tend to be a bit "fluid" depending on the club in question, but I can't see any logical reason why we can't put a Cat B rookie (which is what Keane is) back onto the "official" Cat B rookie list now that we have a free spot there.

The moves he have making seem to point in that direction as well, as surely we wouldn't be leaving ourselves potentially two list spots short of matching a Daicos bid as we speak?

The AFL changed the rule earlier this year.
Previously only 1 Irish recruit could be Cat B. Now 2 can be CatB.
Hence technically Keane could be a Cat B rookie.
Although the transfer from Cat A to Cat B…probably requires AFL approval (not sure if that has ever happened).
That would give us flexibility to delist another player with promise to take in rookie draft…freeing up another primary list spot.

We only have 1 Irish player anyway so the rule isn’t really relevant. And I’m pretty sure they swapped Tohill/Keane as cat A/B rookies at some point, which would indicate that Keane can probably be relisted as cat B
