List Mgmt. 2021 NAB National AFL Draft

Who knows but I feel we may finish mid-table next year if we stay health / few injuries

As such, I'm hoping our choices would be

i) If we think we won't have high enough pick to grab who we want, trade into this year
ii) Use it bundled with 2023 first for a KPF
iii) Grab a slider
iv) Use 2023 first to move up

I don't like hoping we'll lose so that we'll finish near the bottom
Obviously that list will fluctuate a lot between now and end of next year but it’s good to see we’ll at least have a shot at a tall no matter where we finish.

I have been pretty vocal about keeping our first next year and this doesn’t change for me. I think we’ll be bottom 4 and I think the club has to go in with the same mindset regarding the pick. It’s too valuable for this rebuild.

While we are getting this Nick this year, there is an element of risk picking a player that we like who hasn’t played much footy over the last 2 years. I rather select someone next year that will at least have a solid year behind him (hopefully)

Think we need to prioritize drafting Will Elliott. Think of the confusion we could create by putting Will Kelly, Jamie Elliott, Will Hoskin-Elliott and Will Elliott on the park at the same time…
Lol beat me to it was just about to mention this, What’s even better is that he is a key Forward so actually feels a list need for us and comes from The Chargers which we love to recruit from lol.

Just thought I'd drop this over here as it's probably more relevant to the draft now than the Trade / FA period (originally posted in Mason Cox thread):

Looking at our list management going into the draft, right now we have 35 senior listed players (plus 5-6 Cat A rookies depending on where Keane sits), so with 6 point-carrying picks for bid matching we need to get down to at least 32 senior listed players + 4 Cat A rookies (open rookie spots are necessary to open up the extra 2 senior list spots), which could be done as follows:

A) Delisting Thomas, Madgen^, Rantall* gets us down to 32 senior listed players

^ promise to pick up again with late ND pick (if still required), could also be Sier instead of Madgen
* promise to pick up again with late ND pick or rookie draft (if still required)

B) Delisting Chugg, moving Keane to Cat B rookie list (if he's not already there) gets us down to 4 Cat A rookies, meaning we now have 6 senior list spots open come the day of the national draft.

C) If we need to open up another senior list spot then either delist Cox or Sier (or Madgen) with a promise to pick them up again, or try to get someone like Murphy to agree to rip up his current deal (1 year remaining) and be delisted with an undertaking to pick him up again in the ND or rookie draft (we could extend him for a further year in the process as a carrot).

There are of some contradictory (and perplexing) reports around re-signing Chugg which would impact on the strategy above, but this series of moves would put us in a safer place in terms of matching the Daicos bid going forwards.

Interesting that Wrighty said today in his media conference that they are looking to take 3 or 4 picks in this National Draft. Either Daicos plus 2 or Daicos plus 3

I wonder if that’s factoring in Dib as well?
I’d say yes. Reckon Daicos, attempt to trade in to second round for a good prospect, get Dib, potentially grab a slider from high on our board late.

Think we need to prioritize drafting Will Elliott. Think of the confusion we could create by putting Will Kelly, Jamie Elliott, Will Hoskin-Elliott and Will Elliott on the park at the same time…
Will Jamie still go by Billy then? Even more confusion!

If by some miracle we get a late 2nd or early 3rd round pick this guy would be a great pick-up looks to have a lot of upside.

#28 Mitchell Knevitt

Geelong Falcons/Vic Country | Inside Midfielder
08/01/2003 | 193cm | 81kg
September Ranking:
#27

Snapshot:

A big-bodied midfielder with great size and reach, Knevitt dominates at the coalface and impacts around the ground with his strong overhead marking, a feature also sighted up forward. One who was marked by his teammates as one to watch during preseason, Knevitt has taken full advantage of finally getting the opportunity to impress with some outstanding form in 2021. The 193cm midfielder provides range and size which proves difficult to combat at the coalface, as he digs in to win contested ball and stands up in tackles while dishing it out. The Geelong Falcons product is also developing his outside game and is athletically sound, getting to more contests around the ground and making an impact with his contested marking. He fits the modern day midfielder-forward prototype given his built and ability, with the performances to match his potential now coming to the fore.

Last month:

Knevitt is one of the many rising Victorians who hit their stride before the latest lockdown, but has not since had the opportunity to build on that form. He did participate in the Country combine and produced some more terrific results, coming third in the 2km time trial at 6:18.

Also ran a very quick 20m sprint last week.

regarding our list, do i have it correct in that we have

2 senior list spots and 3 rookie spots? - given the recent delistings and trades

Noble and Ginnivan is on the rookie list.

Unless there are more list changes it'll be Nick, Dib + 1 more
