Cal Twomey speculating today that the pies might be talking to Dogs about acquiring pick 23
Assume it would have to be after matching Daicos bid but not sure how we make it worthwhile for Dogs
Yeah, because if Darcy goes first, there goes pick 23. Would only work if Daicos bid comes first, then they trade their 23 to us for some later picks so that we can use pick 23 in the 2nd round.

They nominate Atu who was greener than Flemington is at this time of year...

but not the superior player and overall prospect in Dib 🤦‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️
Only can think that this was a wright/McRae decision, things might have changed since he came on board. Wanted a different type of player maybe.

He's an idiot - we can't do anything before the Daicos bid match, which will hopefully come after the Darcy bid match (we need the latter to happen at pick 2 really). Doggies might very well trade pick 23, but it wont be to us. I reckon we're more of a chance of snagging pick 25 from Carlton, which will probably be pick 28-29 after bid matches, but even that would take a trade for future 2nd / trade back in current 2nd scenario.

So I'm assuming the top 12 prospects would be, that will be invited to the draft is:
Daicos, Darcy, Callahan, Gibcus, Hobbs, Ward, Rachele, Andrew, Sinn, Goater, Sonsie, Chesser.

You would think they all go first round, the rest made up by interstate prospects.

The top 12 prospects in vic will be invited, with their families to a real draft event (there will be events in other states too)

Given the party that was allowed for the Melbourne Cup winners, I am surprised the top 100 prospects weren’t invited and they tap in a few kegs and a 100 bottles of champagne and some DJ’s

The party that ended up being a potential super-spreader event you mean?

Phantoms haunt operas, mocks with players that have a number beside them are for rankings. If you rank someone highly ie with a low number and that player doesn't picked at or around that number then you fugged up. That's some real nonsense, this is where KM rates them only he doesn't really rate them, what a cop out!
Why would you bother if you have no interest in Phantom drafts?
Why do you give a rats what KM thinks?

Why are you even in a thread which is pure speculation, posting nothing but your special brand of speculation?

Reads like a bug up someones arse to me.

We can do a bunch of things with that pick and Twomey would only float it if he’d heard something.

It comes in then could be traded out to Geelong for 34 and a future 2nd, Melbourne for 37 and a future 2nd or West Coast for 35 and a future 2nd. That’s without even considering the movement that other clubs make in and around those picks.

FWIW I feel like the thrust of your post is that it’s not necessarily a good move for us? Because on face value if that’s the case I agree and my overall thoughts are that it boggles the mind that we had 22 and gave it away the way we did yet now seem to be chasing 23, but GW knows all. Twomey is only the messenger and I’d be shocked if he went with it and it was wrong.

Yep my suspicion would be that if we are after it the intention isn’t to keep it but flip it to get back into the second round next year like you mentioned.

This then gives us more flexibility to get back into the draft post Daicos.

It wouldn't surprise me if GW is focusing on opportunities in this draft rather than 2022. I'm not so sure they will trade into the 2nd round next year at the expense of being able to use a live pick in 2021.

GW makes good decisions, I’m sure whatever he does will be thought out and in the best interests of our Club and with the best available information at his disposal.

We won’t use that pick from the dogs though so I think we use it to get back into the second round next year.

We then have the option of using it, or the first for next year, to get back into this year after we acquire Daicos.

I agree I think we will target this year but will have to go the long way to get there.

I know others are against trading next year’s first but I’m open to it if the deal is good and we have a target in mind. And that target is a tall ie if somehow we had the option to get back into the draft after Daicos to nab Andrew, Gibcus or a Jye Amiss then it’s worth using your first.

Similarly if there’s an option later to grab a Bazzo or Van Rooyen with that future 2nd then I am all for it.

We need to accumulate top end talent so I don’t mind if it’s this year or next. Combine that with Daicos and the 5 picks inside 31 from last year and we have something to build with

GWS board member Jimmy Bartel isn’t sure whether the club will bid on father-son prospects Nick Daicos or Sam Darcy, but did float Vic Country key defender Josh Gibcus as a potential target.

“There are probably two or three guys that you’re thinking of,” Bartel told Sportsday.

“I think everyone knows who the first two are – North Melbourne has absolutely declared Horne-Francis as the No.1 pick and then (Nick) Daicos and then (Sam) Darcy – do we bid on him? Do we bid on Daicos? All the games that go on.

“There’s a handful of guys there that could be pick two.

“(Josh) Gibcus, who we’ve spoken to, the best defender, unbelievable athlete, he’s travelled around as a young guy as we know.

“He’s potentially in that spot as well.”

Hopefully they dont bid and just go for Gibcus

It probably hinges on the Daicos bid. If he receives the bid first I think it’s likely we’ll use 23 as a live pick by trading out of 2022 into 2021, but if Darcy receives the bid first we’d need to move it into 2022. This noise on top of Twomey’s phantom suggest to me that GWS are placing a bid on Daicos at 2.

Fwiw, that wasn’t a proper phantom from Twomey in the road to the draft podcast, it was a mock draft with the two guys choosing who they’d pick if it were them. We all know how much of a hard on Cal has for Nick, so take it with a grain of salt.
