I'm tipping Daicos at 4 which starts off a chain reaction of trades, meaning Collingwood selects again in the first round and second before taking a few later selections. At the rookies, we select Chugg with our last pick and Dib.

This would great for us if it happens. I'm one of the few that believe we should use next years first this year. The reason being is that we won't be taking a key forward with our first pick next year anyway. Hine will take a midfielder with our first pick next year so we might as well try and get into the top 10 this year and get one of the gun midfielders that are available this year. This is all on the assumption that Daicos is bid on at 4. I still believe that Norf will take Daicos with pick 1. You never give your opposition a sporting chance if you can avoid it

Collingwood basically uses Oakleigh as its unofficial academy with no obligation or guarantee. Sort of like an NBA G-League side in a very vague sense.

A certain section of Draft Guru is broken but I'm fairly sure (without seeing it since off-season changes) we've got nearly as many Bushrangers players which was surprising to me.

This year, though, there are plenty of mature age prospects. Clubs are slowly waking up to the fact you can recruit a 22 year old and not decimate your list.

We've only got three. Sidebottom, Elliott and Crisp.

I agree, chargers seem to be our breeding ground. How many of our current players are past chargers boys? And the club all stems from our connection to the Yarra Junior Football League, which our academy runs though.

De goey, IQ, Bianco, Daicos, Macrae, Kelly, Reef, Moore.

The rest are either Jets (WHE), Eastern (Browns, Begg), Sandringham (Murphy, Maynard), Falcons (Adams, Henry) Northern (McMahon)
The rest are interstate or country vic.

If we pick again in the first round is it us trading 23* and 36 for a late first or do we try and trade our F1 to Adelaide for pick 5 and then trade that to GWS for pick 3? Pick Callaghan after GWS bid on Darcy?

I think if there's someone GW has in mind, he'll find someone to trade a first rounder for. Pick 5 doesn't seem like enough. We could bundle up 36 and future first for someone else ... I don't know for what. Two later picks that are earlier than what we have would give us more potential.

But at the same time, Pick 5 gives up capital to get that next standout in. Pick 5 ... I'm already imagining a midfielder who can come in and get mentored by the greatest ever Pick 5, Pendles and turn into a dangerous player. The engine room of Fin, Reef, Daicos AND another player. How much better can it get?

Count me in the majority who don’t want to trade our future first.

I’m not exactly sure what would lead you to the conclusion we won’t consider a key forward next year. Particularly given the plentiful top end options available next year.

Dekka has said it’s still a significant gap in our list. So even with the recruitment of guys like Freddy and Begg (& Cameron) that needle obviously hasn’t really moved.

Maybe if one actually proves themselves to be elite that view internally may change. But on the balance of probabilities that seems seems unlikely given their respective speculativeness.

Although if we have a top 2 or 3 pick next year, we could probably trade that for a top 10 pick and another 1st round pick. Maybe even 2 top 10 picks if there is a player a club really wants.

Or we get ourselves another midfield gun which will go a long way to a quality rebuild.

Not sure why Adelaide would trade a pick 5 for a future 1st. The Pies could finish anywhere in the bottom quarter, and the Crows are also in need of talent sooner rather than later. I think they would want alot more than just our 2022 1st.

The fact that we have included Krueger, McMahon, Begg and Johnson as well as having Cameron pinch hitting up forward. There are 2 standout KF's next year and they will go top 4, and I did say if we have a pick there we would consider them. The rest are just as speculative as this years KF crop. The midfielders in the top 10 this year as just as good as the ones next year. So, unlkess we finish in the bottom 3, and I can't see that happening then we might as well invest in the top 10 this year and grab a midfielder so that we can put a years work into him. No club wants a completely dominant FF any more, they force the team to always kick it to them and takes away the element of diversity up forward. It's obvious to me the we are going for a much different style of forward to others, with players like Ginniven, Henry and Johnson. If anything we need to add a couple more, preferably indiginous small forwards. Our biggest list need will be a good Key Defender and there are plenty in the second round next year. Anyway, this is just an opinion

If we had a top 3 pick next year, I don't think we could pass on a lemmins or the other bloke who's name escapes me

I’m not going to pretend I’m across next years draft. Although I did watch Lemmey in the last couple of rep games and he looked good.

But someone knowledgeable like Edps currently has 5 genuine key forwards in his top 20. Which is a seriously high proportion. I doubt he’d have them ranked so highly if they were truely speculative in McMahon’s range.

I also think we’ll have to agree to disagree about clubs not wanting ‘completely dominant key forwards’. I think it’s almost indisputable that every club does. They are simply rare as hens teeth (for various reasons).

And whilst I like what the club is doing with those small to mid sized options, we would be so much better placed with a truely elite key forward (or two) to be the lynchpin of the whole setup. Especially with the signalled intent by the new coaching staff to speed up, increase and improve our forward entries.
