So, it turns out their FK-differential streak actually stretches back eight finals:

2020

EF vs StK @ Gabba: 15-8 (+44) L

2019

2016

GF vs Syd @ MCG: 20-8 (+31) W

No way do any of the cheating flogs on their team deserve a shot at a premiership at the expense of Boak and Gray.
Not to mention Russell Ebert. I guess the great man is too sick to fly, but just imagine if he were to be on hand to present the premiership cup to Tom Jonas. I don't cry easily, but I'd be a blubbering mess!!!!!

Obviously I have exaggerated a little

After seeing what happened to Sydney in 2016, my worst nightmare was the same thing happening to us in a big final.

Did you miss Geelong 2013 and Hawthorn 2014? We were umpired out of both of those finals games.

Bulldogs are a very good side well capable of beating us on their day. Have a terrific midfield and some dangerous forwards most notably.

That all said, we have not a single excuse. Full list, week off, hone prelim. Nothing but a win next week is acceptable.

After the agony of falling short in 2020 after being on top of the ladder all year, I didn't think we'd be able to back it up again this year. In fact, I honestly thought this year would be 2015 all over again.

We've worked too hard to pick ourselves up and get back to another home Preliminary Final to fall short again. We've got an improved team this time around with Aliir, Fantasia, Drew, Bergman etc. in for Ebert, Hartlett, Rockliff, Clurey etc.

That cannot be put down to chance especially considering that in some of those finals they were beaten. Interestingly we had a significant free kick differential in our favour in the round 23 fixture.

What was so impressive against the Cats was that we didn’t lose our focus or discipline in the face of the diabolical umpiring during that intense first half. Our fans lost it, but the players got on with it. Their attitude and fierce calmness brought reassurance to us as supporters, that “hey, we got this”. If Ken can do one thing this week, it is to make sure our boys are completely in the zone again. If we are, we won’t get beaten.

Tag libba, do we have anyone to run with smith, was damaging tonight. Defensive forward on Daniels. Should have ruck advantage.

Smith had an impactful final quarter but his goals were lucky. He butchered the ball for the best part of the game. He could have passed off an easy inside 50 earlier in the game but was hungry and took a long shot from outside 50. He won’t have that luck again and if we pressure like we did against Cats he will turn it over all night.

I rewatched the 2004 grand final last night for kicks.

I had forgotten that the game was in the balance until quite late in the third term, even though we always felt ‘on top’.

What it had in common with the match against Geelong, and we will need to repeat in the next two games, was the intensity around the ball.

We just never let their star mids have space and settle into a groove.

Till my dying day I will think that Peter Burgoyne should have won the Norm Smith.

Pickett’s goals and runs were critical and eye catching but we don’t win if Burgoyne doesn’t dominate their midfield in the second half.

Remember when Swooping Crow used to flit over to oppo boards before every game telling them to smash us 🤣 Wonder if he’s still a thing?🤣🤡
I've honestly never gone to the crows opposition board to tell them to flog the flogs. Sure. I hate them, but they don't have the respectful hate, such as what I have for Westcoast... More of a, those flogs aren't worth a second of my time kinda hate.
I have to admit, having a secret admirer can be a lovely feeling. A little unsettling, but it shows how important we are to them in their hearts.
Wonder if they have a shrine dedicated to black and teal?

Can anyone work out the Vic/Non vic free kick ratio for the first half only? Apart from last night in Brisbane, that appears to be when the umpires do their best work.

Basically are you are saying the umpires are fast starter but need to develop some endurance?
