And ended any chance of him getting an AA jacketDon't remind me lol The reason why we lost the game.
I’m not confident Murley makes it but he’s on the list (or at least going to be listed) and most flanker draftees will probably be as ready as him anyways.Murley is too slight to be counted amongst the options as yet, but I personally think Reef and Harrison are likely to be flankers if they make it.
Conversely I could see Carmichael playing some inside mid, and Draper has shown the most in that position.
Even that is too soft a call. Mids and flankers contribute early in their career. Plenty make contributions to flags very early in their career and all flag teams have big inputs from their 24 and unders.I think most good mids are quality parts of their midfield by 22.
KPP however usually by 24.
Mids typically have a smaller ready by date.
What was the Dogs midfield ages in their premiership?
Melbourne's in their flag?
Even ours in 2010. Pendles shaz Thomas Beams etc all sub even if filling wings and flanks as well. They contribute to team success much earlier.
I'm warming to Ed Allan.
I don't totally blame him. Were learning a new game plan where they play a team defence rather than standard one-on-one. But the 2nd half of the game was better.
He’ll be gone before our first selection.I'm warming to Ed Allan.
Plus two talls. Perhaps Keeler and Hayes or Barnett.
Allan will be a gun
He’ll be gone before our first selection.
If Ginbey is still there at their first it will be an interesting call.Ginbey or Allan, Buss will also be part of the discussionWest Coast - Allen and Hewett double.
Was like them taking Dom Sheed he was locked in before the draft had started even to the point they were so certain they traded their pick to us and we agreed not to select him.
Didn't that comeback to bite us on the arse.
I think so as well. That had him at 26 which I can't see. He’ll be gone before our first selection.
Party pooperI can see it now. On the clock with pick 29, Keeler the highest rated player available on the draft board...
Eyes wide open, what's going to happen here...
Next second, Collingwood trade pick 29 to Freo for 32 & 42 or something random. And then Freo take him instead.
Even that is too soft a call. Mids and flankers contribute early in their career. Plenty make contributions to flags very early in their career and all flag teams have big inputs from their 24 and unders.

Look at ND, Ginny and McCreery in our side this year. Good young players, not only great ones , demand spots in the 22 early, they dont wait patiently
The standard pathway, no matter where you are picked, for non KP/rucks is to play a good few games year 1, most games year 2 and all games from then on. There will be exceptions, Josh Daicos took a season longer, but mainly if you dont do this you dont end up being a player. Even if you do this you dont necessarily make it, Cal Brown 5, 8, 22 games 1st 3 seasons then dropped off.
Someone posted earlier that they were not worried about Fin Macrea cause his brother started slowly with 17 possies av 1st season over 13 games. Next season he was 21 games av nearly 27 possies a game and 10 Brownlow votes. Unfortunately for Fin thats a world of difference. On the stats Fin is up against it. Players who end up solid and beyond usually dont drop off to 2 games in their 2nd season. Fin needs to smash the door down this season, I think he is a chance but he needs to do it soon.
Point is here whoever we pick up next week should be looking for games in 2023 at a minimum. AFL doesnt wait and its cutthroat. Its what the good players do. More of them come from the top of the draft but the ones who are good from later picks are generally good early, See Ginny and Mcreery.
Plenty of flag sides have yound mids making a big contribution.
Who would want to be a recruiter? If we complete our due diligence and overlook Hewett at 16 and he ends up being a gun, we curse Hine for 10 years. If we take Hewett at 16 and he ends up being a knob, we curse Hine for not learning from past mistakes.Hopefully not
I think the point he making isFrom my perspective it’s both.
No point pining over a player who according to reports is unlikely to be available.
However that considered approach obviously changes should a prospect unexpectedly be available (in my case Hewett).
Dream draft for me now in order of preference and taking into account likely availability, (given Hewett is almost certain to slide):
Pick 16: Hewett / Hayes
Pick 25: Charlie Clarke / Brayden George / Lachie Cowan / Jakob Ryan
Pick 27: Isaac Keeler
Pick 51: Harry Lemmey / Adam D’Aloia / Joe Richards / Finn Emile-Brennan
They’re not doing that. Way too far in our favour. What about a trade with Sydney.
Our future 1st and pick 25 for 14, 17, future 2nd (34) and future 3rd (52).
Would Sydney be desperate enough to do it? Or do we keep our future 1st?
Maybe if we throw in pick 27 as well. But I am liking that deal much much less. They’re not doing that. Way too far in our favour.
