Autopsy 2022 Grand Final

Might as well have tried to keep it simple and just put Amartey and not play Reid. I know it’s the mids that got smashed, which no doubt felt like men vs boys in that matchup. But man the aura already felt wrong when the selections came out.

Heart over head decision. Overcomplicated it.

Thought your players were very classy at the end.
Not you day today but you gave it all and we had to be at our best to do it.

You will be back next year and your group will challenge again.

And classy supporters that came to our page with messages.

Well done.

I can’t help but feel a bit angry.

The Reid selection was clearly a blunder - a professional club full of medicos should know better.

Who knows what impact Logan’s axing had on the team spirit - especially when they knew Reid was hobbled.

We got beaten by the (vastly) better side, but it feels like there was a very big self inflicted wound at the selection table.
I can’t sum up my feelings any better than this.

In no way did it affect the result but the Reid selections is an embarrassment and a great indication of how this club prepares for grand finals.

The hard call needed to be made and someone didn't have the guts to tell Reid he's not fit

I don’t think this is correct. I think Reid was fit. But fit to play as a marking forward. But that is not the position we needed. McDonald would have been in for him. If Reid wasn’t fit to be second ruck then amarety should have been selected.

As the majority of those said during the week.

In truth this would have made no difference. We need a faster midfield in the 6-6-6 and we’ve had to put papley there repeatedly because mills and Parker are too slow

It’s difficult to think what might have been done differently which may have made the difference between completely uncompetitive and mildly uncompetitive but starting with Reid forward wasn’t it

Geelong just harder, more experienced, and to be honest no matter what team we selected today it would’ve been the same, but that Reid call was a shocker and dropping Logan. We were spooked from the get go, really missed a Josh Kennedy to steady the ship in the clearances because we just couldn’t get the ball forward. Second quarter we played some good footy, the other four we were shut down and then some.
Not mad just disappointed and flat, as the boys will be. They’ll learn from this.

Loser at life longmire got handed a premiership list by Roosy and Beatson and was lucky to win 1 flag.

Handed another premiership list and looks certain to lose with that one again.

All he does is lose.
Awful vocal for someone who hasn't appeared on our boards all year.

If I was being generous I could almost excuse the first quarter. We were overawed and got blitzed by an experienced team who were primed to perfection.

That 3rd quarter was an absolute capitulation. We had a chance to start again, fight for some dignity, it instead we threw in the towel and got outworked by the oldest team in history.

If we'd gone down in a heartbreaker last week id back us to come back stronger next year but we were exposed and embarrassed all over the park today.

Kinda wish you didn't say go catters at the end, but congrats anyway

SCG crowd today take a bow. Kept cheering until the end even in the cold and rain. Geelong prepped for this, resting players weeks in advance, hard training loads early etc, they were primed. no such planning for swans, as we didn’t expect to make it. Full review needed , top to bottom. Would rather drop down the ladder and get the right cattle that let’s us perform on the big stage.

Kind of feel like the mccartin kick across goal ended the contest and the third just stopped at that point

Tom McCartin is a second banana

I need to take some distance for a bit.

I'll be back.

What I learnt from my first game at the MCG...

Fox and Warner our best, then several light years of daylight.

We were beaten by a team of men there to do a job, whilst we were boys playing a game. I hope that we learn from it.

Cats fans are very quiet until they're about 40-50 points up, then they're full of voice.

For all of the talk of the unparalleled atmosphere of the MCG, the SCG seems better for anything other than 2 big Vic teams going at each other. I'm sure it would be incredible with 100k all yelling at once, but as an interstate side the allocated bays are too far apart (separated by huge tracts of corporate tickets- all Geelong supporters) which makes it impossible to build any kind of cohesive atmosphere (even whilst the game was still in dispute).

Umps are not the reason we lost: we were comprehensively outplayed in all facets of the game across every single contest. However, I've watched the 2016 gf, I've seen 2 different rules books applied today, I've watched us finish with huge negative free kick differentials year after year, I've seen Stevic selected for the biggest game of the year time after time, and I know that we have no chance of crowd parity in the big dance for the next 50 years, unless we're against another interstate club. I get it, it's Victoria's game and we're lucky to be allowed in. Well, the AFL better hope that the game keeps growing in NSW because my Sydney dollars are staying with me moving forward and the VictorianBoysClubFL won't see a cent. I'll still support my Swans with my 11 game membership but I've got enough merchandise to last me the rest of my life (as long as I don't hit the pints too hard), and have no intention of watching any non-Swans games or ever travelling to a GF again.

Lastly, the croissants from Lune are seriously top tier and worth the wait. Highly recommend.

Well done Cats, the win is well deserved. Cheer cheer until next year.

Almost felt the failed kick from TMac trying to switch it pretty much deflated the whole balloon in the 3rd quarter. Beginning of the end.
Game was already long gone mate. Team at that point had no choice but to take risks, sadly that one among the others didn’t pay off
