Do we need to delist a player to open up a spot though?. If so, we should know soon enough if we are eying a player in this draft for our main list
We don't apparently. Rookies don't need to be upgraded until the same list lodgement where players can be downgraded also.

not worth the risk
gws have interest at pick 16
Says who?

Why on earth would they go that high when higher rated defenders will likely be available in that range i.e. Josh Weddle, Lewis Hayes, Henry Hustwaite, Lachlan Cowan or Max Gruzewski.

Yeah, but where did they take Aleer last year?

They also drafted Cam Fleeton and Josh Fahey last year both defenders, don't see them going for a physically underdeveloped 3rd tal/mediuml defender at this time

Probably completely wrong, but I somehow feel more confident about a trade back into this year's first round now. 2 early seconds for next year is a decent bargaining chip
I said it a few days back..

Bring our 2023 1st into this year..

And then next year bring our 2024 1st into 2023..

Because in 24 we may have a F/S that could push top10/top5 if he keeps tracking as he is.. so getting rid of the 2024 1st would be in our interests..

Was thinking the same, especially if clubs thinl North will finish bottom and they could score coveted pick 1 in the second round.

Will also hold some weight if we trade it next year for a player.

gws or hawks are finishing last
north will be 16th or 17th

As has sort of been said before ... the draft unfolds and there's someone we're very interested in but believe will not get to 23. (Phillipou - unlikely to have lasted that long, Keeler perhaps) That player unexpectedly becomes available at 18, 19 or 20, then next year's NM 2nd round pick suddenly becomes currency. A club would probably trade for it, especially given the reputed quality of next year's draft, but they certainly won't trade for this year's pick 23, unless we threw in something more, which we might stuff up the Michalanney F/S.

And, if the targeted player/s is/are gone and we have sat on 23, then we are stuck with using it on someone we may not want. If the player goes too early then we keep the 2023 pick - happy days!

Those 3 picks will match a bid at 22 or later.
If after 29 we get to keep and potentially use 59
If after 41 we get to keep 56 & 59

I'm guessing if we have to match a bid before 22 it will also push out next year's pick 23, roughly 1-for-1.
Given our lack of list spots, I gather we would look to trade out picks if MM slides for future picks.

At what point do we have enough points without pick 41 to bid on him?

Hopefully will be able to trade in another future 3rd.

Given how many we have coming out of contract next season, we can do with extra picks.

I'm hoping we also delist Seedsman and then sign him as a DFA to the rookie list at the same time (is that the process now, Vader?).
No need to delist - there is a window for moving players from the senior list, to the rookie list, between the ND and RD.

Moving Seedsman (or Crouch) would give us a 37/5 list structure, the same as we had this year.
That gives us a list spot, and for the 2nd year in a row we could take a player in the PSD, whoever we feel is the best undrafted player (Verrall? Lemmie? Ryan?).
Possible... but unlikely. Depends on who is left in the draft. Last year they thought Nankervis was too good not to take, but most years there's no PSD at all.
We take someone in the rookie draft and then we move Seedsman to the LTI list and sign Turner.

It could still be interesting, but not til day 2 ...
This is plausible. Of course, it assumes that Seedsman is willing to go on the LTI list (or better yet, the inactive list). Seedsman is still under the delusion that he will one day be able to play AFL football again.
