Vader, can you elucidate the FS matching abilities of our current three picks? I.e., is there any possibility of having to dip into next years picks?
Thanks.
We currently have picks 46 + 56 + 59 = 683 points.

Given that discounts are fixed at 197pts after the 1st round, that gives us enough to match any bids worth 880pts or less. This means we can now match any MM bid, from pick 21 onwards.

** Note that this will change on the night, due to the effects of "live" pick movements, as clubs burn picks to match earlier bids.

what makes you think that?
I think coaching was the problem, and list balance.

You've still got a midfield of Coniglio, Kelly, Whitfield, Green, Ash, Callaghan, Ward and Perryman - the rotations will work better.

The guts of this side won quite a few games for GWS, and I think Kingsley will really improve them.

Okay, when you listed the deadlines before it seemed it was two events - a delisting deadline and a DFA deadline. I suppose it's all academic though.
There's a delisting deadline before the draft.

There is also a window between the drafts, for upgrading rookies and downgrading senior players.

No need to delist - there is a window for moving players from the senior list, to the rookie list, between the ND and RD.

Moving Seedsman (or Crouch) would give us a 37/5 list structure, the same as we had this year.

Possible... but unlikely. Depends on who is left in the draft. Last year they thought Nankervis was too good not to take, but most years there's no PSD at all.

This is plausible. Of course, it assumes that Seedsman is willing to go on the LTI list (or better yet, the inactive list). Seedsman is still under the delusion that he will one day be able to play AFL football again.
Given the ability to move between senior & rookie lists, surely it's time to scrap the rookie list & combine them.

I get that, I was actually referring to the mechanism that you listed earlier, which was

Rookie Upgrade Period opens (10pm)
AFL Delisted Player Free Agency Period (3) commences (10pm)

Rookie Upgrade Period closes (11pm)
AFL Delisted Player Free Agency Period (3) closes (11pm)

-- Which seems to show it as a DFA process aligning with rookie upgrades. Which isn't quite the same as downgrading someone to the rookie list - it seems to be a delisting and then a DFA signing.

history says rookie coaches struggle

this will be no different as he tries to empart his own gamestyle

Pick 46 - 331 points
Pick 56 - 194 points
Pick 59 - 158 points

197 point discount
194 pick 56
158 pick 59
Covers from pick 34.

So if MM slides after pick 33, we can look to trade out pick 46 for a future pick.

Craig McRae did pretty well, coming in to coach a recent grand finalist with a strong mature list that really under-achieved the previous year.

GWS held their coach a year or two too long. There's no denying the talent.

So how many picks can we currently use without having to delist, two?
We have room on our senior list for 1 ND selection right now. Any more than that requires moving players to the rookie list.

At present, we will have room for 1x ND and 2x RD selections. By moving players from the senior list to the rookie list, we could change that to a 2/1 or 3/0 mix.

That's an interesting way of viewing it... you may be right!

Are there any delisted gems out there we might look at?

Looks like we are just taking MM in the draft.... So likely just him and Rankine as new additions in this offseasonb :embarrassedv1:

To me it looks like we seem satisfied that our list is at a point where Nicks thinks we will improve this season and with the inclusion of Rankine we are about right. It's his 4th year in charge and into a rebuild. Another poor finish and he has to go. Would any of the higher up sides tolerate 4 bad years.

Good trade, good business. Get out of a s**t draft and into a comparable spot in a good one. I genuinely reckon what's around at 23 is like 35 most years.

See ya in 12 months.

I think it is a great swap of picks. If by chance the right player is available plenty of clubs will want either of the 2023 second round picks so we can get back in if we want to. If not we are really well set for 2023.

We have improved each year. Nicks has also completely overhauled the list in 3 years. Is he the guy to take us forward . Probably not. But if we can get 10 wins then 12 in 2024. 25-26 we should be in a good window.

I agree we have improved but we came from a low base. Another good preseason is needed to build a few of the kids up.10 wins has to be a minimum.

I said it a few days back..

Bring our 2023 1st into this year..

And then next year bring our 2024 1st into 2023..

Because in 24 we may have a F/S that could push top10/top5 if he keeps tracking as he is.. so getting rid of the 2024 1st would be in our interests..

Maybe but you never know who we might want to trade for.

You could be right but Borlase was meant to be top 10 this far out from his draft year. Even Edwards, Jessie Aish and Jarman were others all talked about as being high picks a few years out
