These threads are always interesting to watch as they evolve during the season.

After round 1 - KPF were a massive concern. A suspended Tex was really our only known quantity. Turning 32 this year - many on here thought he should have quit at the end of last year or was a certainty to retire this year.

Now a mere 4 games later you could have a level of optimism around our KPF stocks.

Tex's first two game show that 2020 wasn't an aberration. To me it really seems like the 6-6-6 has extended the life of good quality key forwards. Look at Buddy, Hawkins, Riewoldt, Kennedy (all of whom are 2-4 years older than Tex).

Himmelberg is just 23 and has played only 32 games. Has kicked 10 goals in the last 3 weeks and looks brilliant. If this form continues we could have a 200cm key forward for the next 5 years.

Gollant has come along and shown he could really be a 3rd tall. Not even 21, and would be lucky if he weighed over 80 kgs. Lots of development in him, but he definitely looks like a player.

Add in we have a pick 2 in Thilthorpe playing in the 2's in addition to a depth player in FOG.

Now - its just as likely to stay positive as it is to go horribly wrong. For me after round 5 - the most important thing for the AFC for the rest of the year is finding out what Himmelberg is. Has Himmelberg been kissed on the D!ck by mother luck and these three weeks have just been a glorious purple patch where he can do no wrong or is he just finally finding confidence in his body & AFL football?

Just came here to enquire about Coxs contract status, would be a perfect foil to Butts and from SA as well. Freo seem well stocked for competent KPDs with Pearce, Logue, Hamling and Cox. They’d prob be more likely to give up Logue or Hamling though to be honest.
Have we traded with freo since McLeod?

There was reason Izak Rankine went at pick 3 and we were able to nab Tariek at no draft cost other than a rookie spot.
Draft number is meaningless. McAsey proves that point. JUH was taken at pick 1 and he hasn't shown anything as of yet.

Was there a reason why we got Keays for a rookie (delisted player) pick too?
Isn't it about time you admitted Benny has been an amazing pick up for the Adelaide Football Club because You're now coming across as an absolute tool with your shitcanning of him at every opportunity on any thread where you think you can slip in.

Benny was actually taken by Brisbane with pick 24 in the 2015 draft after they matched a bid by Kinnear Beatson (Sydney Swans) one of the most astute recruiters in the business. It's not Benny's fault that he never got the opportunities his talent deserved at Brisbane.

It's really sad you've chosen to keep this crap up.

Its interesting, many of the best KPF's do seem to be able to play well into their 30s, its not really anything new. Nick Riewoldt, Matthew Pavlich, Barry Hall all made it to 34. Wayne Carey was 33 and that was due to a freak neck injury, otherwise despite shot shoulders, he probably plays another season or 2.

Going a bit older, Ablett senior was 34, Dunstall 34, Lockett 36 (although that was his 2nd retiredment, I think the first was 33...)

Then you've currently got Josh Kennedy at 34, Tom Hawkins 33, Jack Riewoldt 33, Lance Franklin 35.

Given Walkers in close to the form of his career and probably his body's in as good a shape as it has been in a long time, no reason we can't see another 2 seasons out of him. But sometimes the end can come quickly so you never know.

True, although pre-crows he did have a run of games at north from full forward where they cleared out the 50 and left him one-out. Kicked bags, was fun to watch. 1990 maybe ? Remember him kicking 10 against South in one.

Nostalgia aside - he was a midfielder.
Destroyed South in a final in 1990.

Also state game vs Vic in 1993 - kicked 6

I was at that game, South were in front and playing well when North' coach shifted Jars from the midfield to full forward during the 2nd quarter from memory and he slaughtered us. Mike Patterson the coach maybe?

On Fogarty - what teams would like to offer a 2nd chance to a young forward?

Essendon? Collingwood? Freo?

On the subject of trades that would never happen ...

Rob for Grundy, straight up.

Is this a trade where BOTH teams say no?

Hawkins has played his best footy after 30 years of age. Still dominant too.

Your post has given me a new perspective on the future of our Texan.😃

Blah, blah, blah.. its always the same shit with you Mutineer..

You are the one that bought up the drafting/rookie positions.. claiming that it mattered.. when in the past when in arguements with other peolple you claim it doesnt matter.

You change your story to suit your argument.

Then you dont like it and get your back up when someone points out your hypocricy.

And… Bennys been our best midfielder so far this season. i’ve said so on here on several occassions in the last couple of weeks.

But ultimately my comment wasnt about Benny it was about you saying one thing in an argument with one person and then the exact opposite in an arguement with another person. Benny was just the example.
