Imagine if we lost ROB for the year then our back up ruck in sanfl can get thru about 45 mins of senior footy before he gets tired

Then our next option could be our star key forward

Then the next guy was taken in the mid season draft and is more a forward

I'd be tempted next year in that situation to put Nick into ruck and reshape our defence to cover

GEEL have no issues keeping their rooks / trades in the VFL for long periods .....I know you're well aware of the Mannagh & Humphries stories ....patience has its rewards

Obviously moving forward Thilthorpe, Fogarty and hopefully Lukosius are our key forwards.

However, in the next 1-2 years, if those guys are injured, how would having Burgess/Borlase/Gollant replacing them benefit us? Given we’re both in agreement that we aren’t ready from a list profile perspective.

If instead, an 18-19 year old who maybe has potential gets a crack, what’s the harm? Even still, we could just run with a small forward line like the Hawks did at various stages this year, and make ourselves more versatile.

The issue with keeping so many players on as depth at this stage of our development is that it prevents us from investing list spots in finding new talent.

Take Port and Hawthorn’s ruck situations as an example, Port had Visentini, Soldo and Sweet on their list. It obviously looks like Sweet is the guy but they needed 3 list spots to be able to roll the dice and see which one worked out. Hawthorn had Reeves, Lynch and Meek, obviously Meek is the guy but they haven’t always known that. They needed to create list spots to find out, otherwise maybe they only end up with one, let’s say Lynch, and it doesn’t work out.

This off season we’re hoping to get Lukosius, Cumming, ANB and a first round pick in. That’s four players, if we then want to invest in let’s say a couple rookie listed rucks as we really need to, where do those list spots come from if we insist on keeping the likes of Hamill, McHenry and Gollant?

Have a look at cadman. He hardly got played in his first year either
curtin had injuries and little preseason. we all wanted to see him but tbh he didn't look ready when he did come in. doesn't mean he didn't show some little things of extreme talent. next year will be different barring injury

He made an excellent point that he 'has always had great assistant coaches around him since' in his time there. Went on to say that Geelong 'Don't expect early draft picks' so instead 'put lots of resources and emphasis on development coaches and structures'.

Who would have thought right??? I hope someone from the AFC was listening to this.

Unfortunately we don't have a very smart coaching group... which sadly is why we are going nowhere under Nicks.

You can tell just by listening to coaches those who know what they are doing with a clear plan & those who offer no substance as they have nfi.
