Hawkins kicking 2 goals in the first quarter from the ruck was massive. Makes Lobb expendable, he's never had that physical presence.
No one else in the league has that physical presence though. Hawkins is by far the best at forward 50 ruck contests as a key forward.

Lynch, Kings, Naughton, Curnow, McKay, etc - no team has that.

* me, did someone run over your cat? Lobb is about Lobb, Acres is about Acres. We lose these guys and watch the belief grow on the back of the culture driven by the young guys. It’s not about 2023, it’s about the end game which may take a few years but I am telling you , we will be better off long term without these guys.
Not sure what the outrage is for?

Anyway, is purple coloured glasses to think that a low scoring team losing their best goal kicker (however meek he may be at times) and a combination of losing depth and not being assured of another good injury run couldn't possibly derail us. It absolutely can.

If I were a betting man, I'd say we'll win between 10 and 17 games with the lower end being if we go back to circa 2016-2020 injury lists.

I agree we are better off long term. Especially Lobb, I wanted to trade him last year before I knew we'd be good this year.

im worried about both…
but agree we need the forwards first…
Stengle is everything you want in a small forward

Reckon our midfield in 3-4 years is comfortably as good as theirs or better. Forward line is unlikely to ever be as good on this rebuild unless we convince some top tier KPF to come home/west or it turns out Treacy is a 60 goal forward.

Other than being an early pick has McDonald shown much?
Going at a goal a game in his first two years.

That is the same career average as Rory Lobb.

It took Tabs 5 years to reach the same career goals per games average.

So if you think the a second year player still has "organic" improvement in him, he is projecting to be ebetter than Lobb or Tabs.

It isn’t outrage, I apologise if it came across that way but all this morning I have read negative posts about how shit we are going to be next year. We have a good core group, we are not there yet, we were the youngest in the finals by a substantial margin with Mundy. We need the trade and draft to work for us in the next couple of years to finish off what we have started but I am very confident once the bodies and minds mature in this group we will be there the last week in September.

I agree with that. Have been saying since probably 2017 that I think our best won't be when Fyfe and Sonny are around, which is why I don't chasing Neale or short term trades like that. Also why I was happy to palm off Lobb last year.

I'm bullish for next year, but I think we are going to need some more injury luck and a bit of growth/input from trades (Sharp or whoever we are looking at).

Clearly Crowden is going for a straight swap of pick #8.

I don't want any of our SA players moving
**** I hope they are using lube on us.

Danger was a bargain, 9 + 29 + Gore (potato). We'll pay more for Jackson.

That's not vent worthy. There is a very real chance we miss the 8 given the squad depth we are losing, Lobb's goals we are losing and the likelihood we won't get a god like injury run two years in a row.
Danger could have been cheaper ... he was a Free Agent that Geelong decided to trade for to make sure the deal got done. Smart work, valuing getting the player now over draft picks.

We just simply shouldn't trade Lobb, Tucker or Meek. I can't see what we get out of trading contracted players unless we get over the top offers.

We all talk about the mistake of trading for Hogan (and I know you were way ahead of he curve on that). But the other big mistake that gets overlooked was trading out Neale when we didn't have too.

If we put a stake in the ground and make it clear to the playing group that we don't trade contracted players unless it is absolutely overs, then in a year or so all the "Colin Young" static will go away.

We have all these leaks in the media because we have trained players that if they make noise we will trade them -- even under contract. The way to stop that is to not "give in" to contracted players.

If the pick 8 stuff is true, I am deeply concerned with how reamed we are about to become.

That would be F1 + stuff to get that and then we would use 13 as well. It's overs when he is uncontracted.
If we give them pick 8 we’ll get something better back from Melbourne

Could be 8 & future 1st
For Jackson & 32?

I think a lot of it is recruiting players with the right mindset. nurries is right in that I don't think it hurts to let go those players that might be putting themselves before team success (Lobb, Acres etc). FTR, I don't blame them either, they do what is right by them like anyone does.

I do think we will get overs for the other 3. Hopefully a decent bounty. You can't just go the other way and hold everyone because then you'll have trouble getting players to commit.

I'm confident we are letting the right players go. Just like Neale going SHOULD have been a massive boost for our rebuild. Not going back down that rabbit hole though.

I think we'll have to use F1 to get 8.

8 + 13 for Jackson + something would be my guess.

Why don’t we swap Bowes, pick 7, pick 31 for pick 13 and future 3rd paying most of his contract

Give Melbourne pick 7 and pick 31 (value pick 3)
Keep future first

If port trade 8, they probably think they can get the same player at 13,

Think our F1 will end up at Melbourne
