I don’t think he’s best 22 next season. I really don’t. Taberner, Jackson and Amiss should be our three KPFs. If one of them is injured then Treacy comes in. Sturt is also an option. Pearce and Cox are our two KPDs. Logue doesn’t have good enough skills to play as a third tall. Whilst he’s a great match up for say Curnow or Cameron that’s maybe three games a season - What about the rest?

What we should be asking as fans is:
  • Should we be paying a player who’s number 18-25 on our list the sort of money that is being reported?
  • Is Freo the best opportunity for Logue’s career going forward?

For me the answer to both questions is No. I’ll be disappointed if he leaves but won’t hold it against him.
Clearly the club still thinks he can be best 22 with the offer in front of him. I’d say they are looking at Young or Chapman moving up the ground and Logue slotting into the backline again. Releasing Ryan to play less of a lockdown role and more an intercept role. I think posters are right in thinking Jackson takes the roaming forward/ second ruck role vacated by Lobb and Amiss comes in to add the scoring power lost by Lobb leaving. Jackson, Tabs and Amiss would be the preferred 3 talls up forward.

"If" Taberner's injured?

This scoring power lost?
Before this year Lobbs best was 20 goals.
Amiss has shown plenty in two games, and averages 2 goals.
We will be fine with Amiss, Treacy and there is hope for
Sturt.
If Jackson equals Lobbs output that is still a low bar.

Short term we won’t. Lobb has single handedly won or kept us in games this year.

I think part of his improved output this year has been his game improving, but a big part is our whole team improving and providing him with more opportunities. He has made the most of some opportunities (particularly high kicks into the F50), but there are others (short darts on the lead) that Amiss is more suited to. I think losing Lobb changes our i50 method and it’s hard to say what impact that will have. Personally, I think it will be a positive. I think Lobb has been brilliant for our current style, but with a bit of tweaking a more mobile forward line might be as good or even better.

Jackson also plays at AFL level every week. Meek doesn’t. Just is going to be a star for next 10-15 years… meek will be an ok afl ruckman
I wasn't really making a comparison to Meek , Just any number two Ruck in recent history.Just for the record I think Jackson is grossly overrated.

Yeah he’s fast, can mark, kicks well enough, can run all day, will provide a contest wherever he goes. What’s not to like?
Griff would take a long time to learn Wing. He has the attributes (height, fitness and speed) but not the footy nous. I disagree that he would be an option for wing but you’re entitled to your opinion.

If he leaves it will be to a club that is offering him more money but for a spot at CHB.

Re: Jackson - he is clearly hampered by his knee. Over the past couple of months he has started games very well but basically disappeared as the game has gone on and unable to put in repeat efforts or make contests at all. Something going on there that will need to be addressed and with our medical due diligence should really lower his trade price slightly.

If Lobb does go he is a good replacement at a reasonable price. Different sort of player to Lobb who has been a good forward. It seems Lobb and Tabs have played similar role and it is a role that Treacy plays at Peel. Leading from the goal square.

Jackson is more your roaming HFF/CHF type who is a ruckman. I wouldn’t place Jackson in the goal-square just not his go.

Tabs out of the goal square (will reduce wear and tear on his body). LJ roaming chf and back up ruck. Amiss perfect third tall. Treacy waiting in the wings for when Tabs goes down or Jye needs a break.

I dont think our tall forward options are as dire as some would have you believe.

I think that Treacy’s game could also work in defence if required.
So we have depth and I’d like to see a full preseason for Benning.
Have to say that Amiss coming back from kidney op. If he plays you can see a
2 goals a game average.
Kid is going to be an elite player as the 3rd tall.
Tabs, Jackson will take the oppositions best backs, others are going to get off
the chain.

Agree on Treacy being a chance as a defender

Unfortunately coaches these days don't seem to like moving players around too much. Game plans are so complex now .

I would have also liked to have seen Wilson tried on a wing..with that great kick of his he could be quite a weapon

LOL at people suggesting Logue could just play wing!
I knew this would get your attention. I 💯% agree with you. Wing requires significant footy knowledge on where to run. Hughes is giving a decent fist of it and so is Henry but both need perseverance. Logue would have no idea where to run. His distance run during the game would look good. His metres gained and possessions would be terrible. Logue has been given a a clear role as a forward and has done ok. He looks most comfortable playing lock down defender. He is good at but doesn’t know when to leave his man and attack.

People go back to earlier games this year and he would often leave his man hesitantly to try and spoil but not be effective and the ball drop out the back.

I hope he stays but he is third in line for KPD and otherwise a third tall forward for which he will have more competition in 2023 if as the reports suggest we look at adding Josh Corbett on the cheap in with Sturt (who deserves some games) and Amiss who will likely play that same role at times.

I remember Hughes playing wing earlier in the year at AFL level.

I’m actually a bit of a fan of his compared to most on here but recognise his weakness of taking a bit long to use it at times (actually think he’s a decent enough kick when he does use it quick enough). This weakness didn’t really stand out but it was obvious he had no clue whatsoever what he was doing on the wing positioning wise.

His WAFL form the last month has been encouraging in that role. I couldn’t have been more impressed last week - thought he was BOG for Peel (if not Crowden was) tbh.

Something I was told mid-season was Logue was worried about losing his spot and the uncertainty of his role within the team. If Tabs & Fyfe are fit right now do you think Logue holds his spot?
If Taberner and Fyfe were both in our current team and we were choosing between Logue or Jackson it would be Logue.

He was poor in the games we tried him at wing at AFL level, he always hesitates and doesnt move the ball on and then just takes the easy 15 metre short pass. Better to try someone like Banfield on the wing and just tell him to get fit enough to run all day.

Did everyone else know McAdam is Benning’s brother?
“Johnson and McAdam's brother, Eric Benning, was selected by Fremantle last year”

Ash Johnson is also McAdam’s brother. Does that make Benning and Johnson brothers?
