I also used to think that every kid we recruit was going to be a gun and improve us...

Actually, did I ever think that?
I'm of the opinion that one of the best things to happen is recent recruits get targeted a few years later.
It constantly keeps you in the draft/trade and lets you continue shape your list on the trends of a game.

This year is a great example of why....

Complete opposite gameplan and its possible some of the draftees from 19/20 don't fit that crash & bash style.
So being able to move them on and replenish the list based on trends / current needs isn't a bad thing.

caveat being the kids show promise and you get good value for them (and they don't all leave!!)

Macrae just needs to be more composed and fix up his ball use.
Chuggy was the only mid who got votes. Along with Beggy.

His ball use is alright, isn't it? You've seen a lot more than me though. I think the biggest improvement he needs is to get to and consistently sustain an AFL level of contest.

He has good ball use
Cal Brown on the other hand in the VFL has terrible ball use

Its not bad, but could be better. I noticed on the weekend, when he kicked the ball it was basically a hack kick and hope for the best. But His inside game is something he is working on, so I'm not too concerned.

Ball use has been far from his issue. I think he’s been a great kick, has a bad game kicking wise. I agree his biggest issue atm is consistently playing four quarters and maintaining that. He’s generally playing a good second half.

What if Moore gets injured? We’re screwed then either way, doesn’t matter if we have speculative talls or NQR state leaguers take his place. We won’t have anything close to a suitable replacement either way. What a nonsense justification.

Nonsense justification? That’s exactly what you just offered. Moore is injured and there’s no one else close to being as good as him so don’t bother trying anyone else for half a season. You’d make a great list manager.

Jack Hayes didn’t get drafted by anyone, got onto St Kilda’s list by just training with them. Then he outplayed Grundy and all our talls in rd1. Won BOG in a SANFL grand final and no recruiter thought he was good enough for AFL, until a club gave him a go and turns out he was good enough.

Also we have Dean and McMahon waiting too

Outplayed Grundy you say....ok then....

I still can’t believe people are running with this.

I’m willing to bet that Carmichael will be getting games for us by the end of the year.

I’d also love to know who these magical key position players from the state leagues are whom would be getting games for us?

Correct.

I reckon Carmichael became a person of interest if available post the Dogs game where we got ridiculously smacked on clearance and contested ball in that first quarter especially.

This is most definitely a need.

Maybe Tyler Brown he can replace but Macrae needs to get games otherwise we lose him or maybe even we lost Poulter or Bianco
Who’s coming for Macrae or Poulter? They’re tracking nicely, but have hardly been dominant forces in the VFL this year. They’re not children, they know they need to earn their spot in the 22 like everyone else.
Bianco… lol

Brown out for Macrae and WHE out for Poulter
Simple

Please direct us to the dominant tall in the state leagues who is the equal of what Jack Hayes was last year. Lmao, using the rare exceptions as justification to not play the percentages now. I love it, keep going. 🫠🫠🫠

That’s not what I was asking. I was asking what clubs are gunning for these amazing players who are yet to establish themselves as best 22.
The “play them or we’ll lose them” justification for giving kids games that haven’t earned them yet is BF paranoia at its finest.

What key forwards were there? Some of the usual suspects like Tyler Keitel didn't elect for the draft (if I recall correctly), so not sure there was any talent there we missed.

I think it turns out they were already eligible for the draft and didn't need to renominate. Something to do with having already nominated for past drafts.
