TBF - more than 1 person saw Dow as a top 5 pick....

Completely agree - he was always a top 5 pick that year. Not like we plucked him from the 20-40 range.

Why he hasn't progressed as planned/intended/expected? That's something we can debate...

LDU and Cerra may be playing VFL if they were drafted by Carlton and Dow could be a better player than he is ATM.....

Our player development leaves a lot to be desired

We set Dow up to fail by giving him so much rope in his first 3 or 4 seasons.

He had major deficiencies back then, but he was immune from being dropped and as a result never really developed the necessary mentality at the senior level.

Now he's having to attempt to get back to baseline, and has to get better than a couple of inside mids who are really solid defensively.

Agree. It would take an essay as we think of multiple coaches, changes in footy Department and administration, and so many other things.

Getting back to this weekend, I will find it fascinating to see if Dow is in. A few posts ago I felt that if Dow wasn't picked, it would be a sign he might as well pack his bags. But I take that back with apologies. Dow's future should not be defined by this game. I'd love to see him in, but could understand if he was not listed this week.

We don't have time. They should understand their system through training it.

As I said though, Weitering hasn't been his dominant self. Perhaps Young should have kept doing what he was doing and Weitering should have phased himself in around the fringes. Pretty hard for Weiters to be the barking defensive general while struggling to find his own feet.
Doesn’t matter whether we have time or not, it’s just how it is. They have to learn to work together.
Voss lost all credibility on selection last week - JSOS decision was just that bad for a game we had to win
”all credibility”. Be more dramatic 😂

Getting thrown straight into a piss poor AFL midfield couldn't have helped and never getting an opportunity in a pretty good one that lacks pace and urgency..
Still early days in the careers of LDU, Cerra and Dow, might be best to compare them all in 7 or 8 years time.

Riley Beveridge on afl.com.au running with Fogarty, Dow and Marchbank to replace the injured three.

Yeah, suits the number of possible options. I would prefer some zip in either Honey or Martin, although the Lions have a similar list composition to us, not really that quick between the arcs and slightly older profile

Voss can bite me, I very much doubt he’s going to start picking Dow now- which I believe has been to our detriment for weeks. He showed his form last week by dropping JSOS - Voss does not have all the answers & is not always right.
Rushing Pitto back so he could be an enormous witches hat wasn’t a great idea either
TDK is averaging over 50 ruck contests per game, for 17 hitouts, with 6 going to advantage.
The witches hat came in after months off, attended 64 ruck contests and got 30 hitouts with 10 to advantage.

Not many straight up best 22 players come back through the VFL. Even less spend 2 games there before coming back in. Pitto wasn't rushed back and he wasn't a witches hat. He pretty much broke even with O'Brien, who would've had a field day if he came up against TDK and SOS.
We also needed to get him warmed up (and the mids used to roving off him again) before our 3 most important games of the season.
It's understandable that his fitness base might be a little down after how long he had off, but two VFL games and an AFL game should put him in good stead for the rest of the year. He certainly wasn't the reason we lost. It was the logical game to bring him back in.

Also no coincidence that Cripps played his best game since about round 8 with Pittonett back in the ruck. Looks some much more ominous around clearances with pitto rucking vs tdk.

So wet track, 2 ruckmen, 1 underdone was a good idea then was it?
1 mark, 2 kicks he was a force to reckoned with 🤦‍♂️

Cripps had alot of possessions but l would not say his game was really influential.
Pittonet looked some way off peak fitness, he will find it hard at this late point of season to reach his early season match conditioning.
Definitely need to back TDK in as he has a significant improver this year.

Voss couldn’t pick out a wedgie at the moment.
Just hope whoever plays goes out and plays football- I’m over the bullshit, just want genuine effort.
If they make a mistake they bust their butt to fix it! Not sulk!
Tackle like they mean it, be first to the ball and be aggressive & capable with ball movement.
Geez Harry, you're sulking more than the players. We all didn't like the game. We all want them to respond. HTFU

He had 13 clearances and 23 contested possessions at a high efficiency plus 2 goal assists. Not his fault his team mates didnt show up to play. If he played exactly the same game and we win he would be praised as clear BOG.

Pittonett clearly a better ruck option then TDK at the moment. Pitto won the ruck battle on Saturday which is something TDK has only done 1-2 times this year.

Don't get me wrong I think TDK has improved heaps and has a massive ceiling. I just feel his performance in terms of production gets massively operated by supporters.

Way too many angry pills today Harry.

Probably best if you stay offline & calm down.

Posters not happy Dow is not in the side. Many have pointed out why Voss hasn't selected him, yet posters that want Dow in the side think other posters have NFI
Really Voss doesn't pick Dow because of poor defensive running, yet still picks Cripps mmm

I'm not saying Dow is as good as Cripps, he's not even close but it sure looks like pot calling kettle black to me

l believe some on this board have unfortunately under rated TDK carrying the load on his own.

TDk has potentially many more elements to his game than Pittonet who is probably the old school style ruckman.

No reason why they cannot co exist, Melbourne make the two ruckman partnership work effectively.
