Hope someone is incinerating the game day thread. Embarrassing including from those who are meant to know better.

I'll only mention it one more time.

Absolutely bizarre umpiring. Multiple times down our end the umpire would be in perfect decision, see one of our forwards get whacked across the head and not pay it. Like literally perfect view.

It just seemed to be so corrupt, because they can't possibly be that bad.

3 gifted goals in the first half kept them in the ga.e when we were threatening to blow it apart. Not a single free kick in within 25m for us. Was God awful.

Yes we started in second gear but without the absolute arm chair ride they had the game would be over at quarter time.
Absolutely agree. Was bizarre. We were too good in the end but Umpiring was farcical.

Plowman still offers something down back. He has experience, will hold his spot for now, especially with Gov out for a while.

We did miss Hewett in the midfield today, he is so underrated. Obrien should never be dropped again, runs, runs and runs. One side of the wing is his now

Not sure about never if his form slides, but I'm really bullish LOB could be our long term damaging winger.

His kicking was spot on tonight and looked like class. That weighted kick to Martin was 10/10. Any longer and would have gone out on the full, any shorter and would have been intercepted.

Young looked more sure of himself

Proven to be a good intercept mark over his career.

Looks good defending on the lead too, his weakness being the 1v1 strength wrestles.

I reckon if we had either Jones or Omac playing 2nd KPD, he'd do well playing the third tall interceptor role of Gov.

Didn't feel like we crushed them.

I mean, I'll take a 50pt win any day, but at the half time break they were well and truly in that game. Glad we put them away in the third, but I'll feel better when sides like North don't even give a yelp against us, rather than rocking up thinking "This is one we can pinch".

Still some troubling moments in there. Long kicks to outnumbered contests, dodgy handballs to players under pressure.

Definitely outweighed by the good though. Corridor play, plenty of pressure, Carroll. Tick, tick, tick. A lot more hunger for the contest too, plenty of physicality.

Good opportunity to take the next step against the Crows in a week.
Was at the game with both the kids. Little fellow was off his chair seeing a 50 point margin which was so nice to see. Was singing the song out loud on the tram on the way home much to the amusement of the tram. However.....! BB your summary above was exactly how I felt walking away. One of those games that for mine prob threw up a few more questions than answers, however you take it and move on. Where did that structure and tempo of rnd 1 and 2 go? Carroll looked good and Young great progress.

Lots of good players. I’ll say it again Saads year is really stacking up. Young played an intercepting role really well showing that I think of McGovern doesn’t get up hopefully McDonald does and we can play all 3. I’ve not been a massive wrap but Plowman I thought was quite good as well. Last but not least man I hope Cripps wins a Brownlow.

Dammit Jones.

Just imagine all the intercept marks if we had a KPD trio of Weitering/Jones/Young on the field...would be a brick wall.

Good win. As expected against a rabble like North.

We do tend to go a bit Hollywood when we are up by a decent margin.

Carroll looks a bloody beauty.

Just need to take care of Adelaide and we are 5-2 then have a massive 2 weeks of GWS & Sydney.
Glad I'm not the only person who thinks this. We get way too cute and dare I say ahead of ourselves.

Likely to happen less and less with AFL equalisation in coming years.

And we have invited teams into this attitude by not putting teams away and not performing when we should in the past.

If it makes you feel better, North have been poo for 3 years yet in 2019 they smashed us by 10 goals and last year they beat us by 6-7 goals. 2020 we got a very narrow win. They have been a bogey team for us regardless of ladder position.

This is definitely progress. And given we have a completely new coaching panel with plenty of upside, that's good enough for me at the current time.

4 quarter effort, second half much more of a highlight. Carroll was fantastic for his debut, he has some great attributes and his nous was on show first time at senior level. It’s so nice to have a young player come in and feel like we have potentially (I hope!) unearthed another great part to our total sum. 2nd in score involvements, 1st in assists, =4th i50s, 6th in meters gained, 19 disp and 8 marks. Here’s to a long successful career with us in Navy Blue.

Cripps was immense. Again. Another 3 Brownlow votes thanks. In saying that, how glad I am Saad is being recognised more for what he is himself as a player this season. He wills himself to so many contests he should be out of, has the afterburners, and has absolute grit as a HBF. What a player. Worth everything we gave, esp if he keeps this current form up.

Could go through many other names but last thing ill say is; Stock, whatever the injury is I hope your teammates and all us in the stands understand and appreciate what it means to put your body on the line. That was amazing and went all in on a contest others wouldn’t be arsed to make. Get well soon.

Bring on the Crows, up the Baggers

Saad might be the best one on one player in the comp. He just doesn't lose a 50-50 ball. Heck, he wins most 20-80 balls. Not just his closing speed, he never loses his feet and is incredibly strong over the footy.

Very impressed with Young. Has a future as a 3rd tall. Hopefully get McDonald back soon to free up Young against sides with 2 genuine KF threats.

Cripps - what a game. Another 2-3 votes. Love how we're using him as the short hit up option 40m out. Not sure there's another player in the comp they loves a goal more than Crippa.
Weiters….

To make it sweeter, Essendon fans were crowing about how they replaced him with Nick Hind...but he's been terrible this year and been dropped.

Will tell the story again. Last year on 3AW about Round 7 or 8 Matthew Lloyd was doing his top 5 and sprouted how Hind had been ‘so much better’ than Saad. Bear in mind Saad had probably been in our top 5 players in four or five of those games.

Sam Mc Lure pulled him up and said “Really, you reckon he has been that much better than Saad ??”

Lloyd quickly backed down and conceded “well, maybe he’s been at least as good as Saad”.
