I don’t get how people get on here and want to bag out a player who has had 34 and received coaches votes I guess they must have been watching a different game to the keyboard warriors
could be different expectations, right, wrong, do people even still say "keyboard warriors"? does online forum lingo ever evolve, ya think? might also be a case of people being way too defensive when the sun-god gets a bit of criticism........

Have to say the footage of Saads mark is really disappointing. How the camera did zoom in is mystifying .

One of the best five marks I can remember seeing live up there with:
Buzz’s mark of the year in 81
Mc Conville in about 81 at Arden St
Harmes took one at the Junction oval in 82 and had to be carried off after it.
Nicnats mark in 2011 over Thornton

There have been other but these are the ones that have stayed with me( Probably should included about 4 from the 99 prelim from Kouta but they weren’t as spectacular

1AW's hanger vs * is my favourite. Literally sat on Carlisle's head. He was great to watch when he was on.

Ok found the Weiters bit just over 24 minute mark on Kayo for latest episode of On The Couch.
It literally only about 40 seconds or so but shows what most of us probably already knew that he was the traffic cop on field for how the defence zone sets up. You could call him the Zone Keeper if you like.
Pretty elementary stuff really. You'd hope he is doing that. Local footy backmen do the same thing, it's just that local footy midfielders don't always listen

I've never seen anything interesting when players are miked up during a game, lots of yelling for the ball or telling blokes where to be. Goes to show it's exactly the same at the top level, just a bit faster and cleaner

Ok thanks, finally figured out OTC must have meant On The Couch so will have a quick browse on Kayo to see if I can fast forward to part of episode where it hidden. Hopefully not like Jeff's Hook.
It's right before an ad break.

I was there for that, SOS one v Pies and the Buzz v Cats as a kid.
Those three all made the hair stand up on back on neck moments, so to speak.
Seen a number of others too but those three were like ones you lucky to see live at all.

Yep, someone has to be the traffic cop, however it is whether the others listen intently and trust.
I'm tipping not all command the same respect, especially at local footy level.
Weiters says it with authority, so if you not listen I'm tipping he follows up with a serious bake at anyone that don't.

Didn’t go to game. Have watched it twice on replay. Am carefully watching now to see what I missed.
sometimes different people see different things - ie umpires - seems a waste of your time trying to disprove your own thoughts - you need to be prepping for your next track-watching expedition..........

Yeah totally agree, Saad was great, quick thumbs up

I do like watching the work he puts into his opponent before the ball gets there. Remember seeing it vs walker against Adelaide years ago at the MCG and knew he'd be a great player. Took him to town that day. You could here the slaps of body contact from the top of the southern before walker went to lead

Cripps Q1: 8 touches. One hanball hot under pressure got intercepted. One banana snap miss. All other of his 8 touches hit targets. Zero Superman cape efforts. Hard tackling by him.

Cripps Q 2: 10 touches. One perfectly understandable kick off the ground from a pack. Rushed shot from 50. Somehow Ward was allowed to block a handball after a mark (should have been 50). Otherwise I believe he hit every target.

So at half time I have him hitting 13/16 targets plus two difficult misses. Zero Superman efforts.
Maybe I'm wrong but at the game I believe you get a feel of the right/wrong decisions. I reckon when watch it in real time at the ground you can see the play unfold better than on tv so you kind of anticipate what should be the next play. Sometimes you see a piece of play by a player and you say to yourself "that was brilliant" but on the replay it doesn't seem that way because you can't see the full play.

I think that's the same with watching player possessions on tv. You might think he has made the right choice by giving it to a player on screen but at the ground you see that there was another player in a much more attacking position that the whole crowd can see but the player hadn't because he didn't look up at the right time.

Sometimes Cripps, and many other players, make that mistake. He crashes through a pack and you see he has a go to option straight away but he chooses to keep going. He doesn't necessarily turn it over but sometimes he ends up giving to a player who is in a worse off position that is then forced into a turnover.

Ashman only really had 1 or 2 elite years( should have won the Brownlow instead of Quinlan and Round in 81). Didn’t play in 79

He had more than one or two elite years - didn’t play in 79 due to injuries and paying a penance for requesting a clearance.

Played a crucial role in the 1981 flag, kicked one of the goals in time on in the third quarter that got us within 9 points at 3/4 time.

Not sure about elite, but he is a very good footballer. And most importantly he has settled after a few years in the wilderness.

I was a huge fan of his coming through the draft and early in his career he certainly projected as someone who could be elite at the level, but stalled badly for various reasons.

Not sure he gets to the elite level, but certainly he has rediscovered his flair and form and is having his best season at the top level, which is a real credit to him and the coaching staff.

Reminds me of Zach Merrett....

Yep burns 2 or 3 options and then gives it to someone in a shit position......

On tv, he gave it to a teammate.....what's everyone on about?

Let him go, he's watched it twice already and now again to prove Cripps played ok......and I thought I didn't have a life

Or…..I watched it again because I didn’t understand the level of vitriol he copped.

They do.

I am still imagining a knight using a keyboard as a shield.

As for Cripps, he had a decent game. We wouldn't be talking about this if he slotted two gettable goals, those misses stood out more than say, an effective handball. Or his tackling work. People concentrate on what stands out the most, and often it's the negatives. But he did more positive than negative, even though he fell back into the "trying to be Superman" habit a couple of times. With Pitto back into the side he's going to be much more effective.

vitriol? where do you get this stuff?
Wasn’t referring to your remarks. I just think you were wrong but that’s an opinion. Although thinking about it you did say ‘anyone saying Cripps played well owes them rest of the 22 an apology’ or words to that effect. Perhaps not vitriolic. Damning? Hyper critical? Is that better?

no - it's not - none of that describes the stuff people have said about his game - you're coming from way too defensive a position - it's ok to disagree

2nd in the b&f twice. 4other top 5 finishes.

Think Cripps has him covered as much as I loved Ashman. No one you would prefer running towards goal with ball in hand. Rarely missed like all of the mosquitoe fleet
