Yep, Lloyd today named Saad at 2 for League HBFs saying "the last month Saad has been phenomenal".

Saad's West Coast and Geelong games might have been his 2 worst for the year, but he was fantastic against the Giants.

He also had Duncan at 3 ahead of Docherty and Brayshaw so not sure we can take much from his list.

It’s definitely not at a level we need it to be at, i think atm we are one of the poorer transitional teams in the comp when it comes down to quick clean & clever spreading running and overlap particularly throughout the corridor…
Our kick ins are at times in the same boat and i think a problem in not creating some better balance in creating better opportunities for our ball movement as well…
That one thing that really mystifies me- the kick in is one of the very few things u can control, I don’t get how they don’t have “X” amount of set plays and then just roll through it. The ball should end up close to the wing every single time (especially with the new rules). I don’t get how we don’t have our best kickers in position to achieve this.

Dont get me wrong, Doc deserves an AA spot and i know he will definetely get picked because of the 'story' of coming back from cancer over summer. Nothing more the AFL loves than a story - Krakouer's mark over walker because of the 'back from jail' story

It looks to be we are playing the percentages down the line on most occasions we’re we either hit a target or kick to a contested area to hopefully force a stoppage and reload from there…
It’s really quite predictable because the opposition are setup for it every time, sometimes the opposition setup their press and zones so we’ll that there’s no choice but to play down the line, but there is a lack on our behalf whether it is on our players, our coaching or both of better methods with the space when it’s there to use in spreading and linking up from our kick ins imo…

Yeah... the barking at one another, with some baying for change, while others growl and howl, and with all the yip yap, when we can be roaring about prospect of playing finals again...
My cat likes this.

Meh.

Hold on. According to recent studies, doesnt ice slow recovery?

Edit: founds it. Apparently it applies to soft tissue injuries.

Here’s a question- why do never see Weiters take a mark from a kick in around the 50?
Or is it something that happens regularly & I just haven’t registered it

It is interesting the Saad is finally getting the credit he is due in the media even if it is about 15 weeks too late.

Kano has him as the best hbf in the league. Knows his football that Kano :)
To be honest. I think it a case the Saad has simply taken his game to another level.
He seems to be one of those players that continues to improve each year,
There is no way he was this good at Suns, Bombers and his first couple of seasons with us.
He has gone from good player, to very very good player.

You wanted them slathering over him since Round 1?

If he does mark the ball from a kick he'll usually only be 25m out from the goal max. If he's at the 50m line, he's no longer going to be the last man in defence and if there is a quick turnover he won't be able to get back quick enough to defend a fast, deep entry.

I think the big thing is he used to go on emu runs to nowhere and then kick to a crowded forward line after even the slowest of players had been able to get back to defence. While the commentators used to go wild it often didn't help his team. He is much better at seeing that the run is not on and giving the ball off.

Edit - This was more my view at GC and *

Very good point. Just seems he has more awareness now beyond just bouncing and running. He now is more aware what to do with that skill and also seems to have more moments of defensive awareness.

I think it has also got to do with the players making a move when they see Saad with the ball. Last year, I think players ball watched him instead of being proactive. This year players understand when he gets the ball they can start sprinting up the field to open space to receive the ball. Yes, his game has elevated but so has his teammates' understanding of the way he plays.
