Is it reported either way that we tried or didn’t try? Genuinely can’t recall

I know Port made the deal to move up with Fremantle quite early in the off-season, so we needed to act swiftly if we wanted to move up
I think we were focused on trying to get 2-3 to get Rankine/Luko and didn’t worry about going for Rozee, whereas Port read the room and Roezee ability and targeted him.

There is no doubt they cleaned up and we performed poorly during the trade period and with our picks.

No I genuinely couldn’t remember lol. Thanks for clarifying either way

We were going to outdraft everyone with all our picks, we didn’t need to put all our eggs in one basket and trade up like Port did.

(I’m sure we did try to trade up, but obviously not hard enough).

Publicly we were all rah rah, 5 picks in top 30. Rebuild on the fly etc etc

Then went on to absolutely butcher the first round

Ned and Jones are incredibly difficult players to read, both have obvious strengths and equally obvious weaknesses. They could have massive breakout seasons or fall out of favour entirely and I wouldn't be surprised with either outcome.

What?

They’re heading into year 5. Both have been and are massive disappointments for the draft capital invested in them.

What we’re left with is 2 players we are hoping merely make it, no longer worried about them becoming upper level contributors

Don’t forget the McAsey pick we got from the Stocker trade

We F***ed up across 2 first rounds!

Add in Hateley, and frankly it’s a mess for our talent evaluation
If you squinted and were very generous, you could say we got hately right both times - didn’t draft him the first time, and then paid nothing for him the second time.

Imagine our rebuild if we grabbed 2 decent players out of those 3 picks. Pedlar better get his body right, if not we can add him, even though I believe he has the ability.

If you look at the 2018 Draft, there wasn't a lot left after Ned's selection, one or two you'd probably prefer, but it's not like we made an obvious mistake. Unless you're a Zorro Duursma fan!

Never should have had a pick at that range as we knew a long way out that there were some absolute high end SA kids and others in the top end of that draft. Should have been all over breaking into that top end and picking off the weakest entry point like port did. Pay the premium then to get up higher having gained one of the coveted top 7 picks and get either the player we really wanted or if not, still one of the best kids in that draft. Retaining a back end 1st rounder (where ned was picked) should have been an afterthought and not seen as a draft master stroke by our team

Didn't we try to give GWS something for Hately and they refused? We tried to pay overs, GWS said no, so we got him for the right price.

Smooth work Crows. 🤣
