Schoenbergs career is done. As I stated ages ago, he is one of those players destined to be a great Sanfl level player but simply doesnt do enough at AFL level. He wont push any of our mids out for games and we have better players all over our forward line. No club will take him. Otherwise they would have during trade period. Its not a surprise here. We knew what we needed to do. No one wanted him, so we were stuck and the only thing that saves him via the promise is our want for depth.
I had such high hopes for Schoenberg when he first came into the side. I remember his first season he looked really good. He never went on with it though and actually went backwards from then. Not sure if it is to do with talent or just lack of commitment.

Richmond look set to get norths pick 2

Richmond Lalor
Richmond Draper
Carlton FOS
Adelaide Langford (or Smith )
Melbourne Smith ( or Langford )
North Tauru

This is what I’m thinking happens

Draper a leadership and culture pick with young group as well as a fine player

I will be a little disappointed if Richmond take Draper, but also quietly confident we will get him back a few years later. It seems to be our plan at the moment.

The thing about Draper is I think he’s a very strong character and don’t see him as a go home issue for them
Maybe not, but I think our plan is to recruit primarily from the 'SA lad' pool. I could see us making a significant play for him.
By then, we should be playing consistent finals, while Richmond will probably be entering their 3rd or 4th year of being awful.

We cherry pick the ones we know might come back.

I don't see Draper doing that, particularly at a big Vic club that he could captain one day

From the brief highlights I watched in that post on the previous page, I thought the exact opposite. He seemed to do really well to draw the oncoming defender towards him to free up his team mate and then handballed to them once they were free.

His repeat effort and gut running was very impressive too. He looks like he would bring a different skill set to our team that we have been missing.
I thought the same last year and if you watch the futures game from last year, it's a good example of it. This year he cleaned it up a lot though and I didn't see it much (if at all) as the season went on. Made me feel a lot better about taking him.

Why wouldn't they go Smith? Similar type of player and arguably better? From Vic.

If that pick swap happens, for me it looks very very much like

1. Richmond - Lalor
2. Richmond - Smith
3. Carlton - FOS
4. Adelaide - Draper

I can't see why Richmond go up to two for Draper.

It's surely either FOS or Jagga.

Why surely ? What happens if they love Draper and love his character and speed / agility / competitiveness traits

He seems a great pick if you’re building a team from ground up , he’s the sure thing and then Lalor is the high ceiling pick

It’s a nice combo for them

About the only draftee option we haven't been aligned with in that's in our draft range is Josh Smillie. Personally I'd probably take him before Langford given I feel his midfield craft is better.
I got Langford clearly ahead of Smillie

Way outperformed him as a mid at all levels this year and has more balance in his game

Yeah but you're infatuated with Langford similar to me with Sam Lalor. I still think as a mid Smillie will be the better of the 2.

Everyone seems to lock in FOS for Carlton - if their recruiters are any good then they will pick either Draper or Smith because they need a speedy mid to round out their current group. Further, they are in a premiership window(!!) & therefore Draper would be high in their pecking order, due to him being the only top draftee who has proven his worth against men.

In this scenario imo Richmond should select Lalor & FOS. Tigers need mids & forwards & Lalor & FOS can play either role.

I made a post a while back on this and I think Carlton are playing the long game here to try and get Harley Reid in a few years time. FOS is a good mate and Reid is apparently on record stating he would like to play with FOS. FOS is related to Walsh (minor detail in reality). Carlton already have Harley Reid's girlfriend playing for them. I could be wrong, but to me, they see FOS a a top line mid which he has to be to be spoken of where he is so its a tick and if drafting him helps in a fea years bringing in one of the best young talents in the game.....

All assuming he is there at pick 3 and if I am right and Richmond get pick 2, then he is likely to be there at 3 after Lalor and Smith are taken

And West Coast have enabled this by gifting them pick 3? If so everyone at West Coast needs to be fired the second the trade request comes in.

FOS has tremendous speed and agility
