I know I've stated it before but all this talk of "4 experienced rookies" is baffling.

Have we not learnt our lesson that other clubs duds or players who weren't drafted for years are not the answer?

Freaking about every single trade before all is done is moronic. Just wait to assess after the draft period and most of you won't look like such turnips in retrospect.
Plus with future picks being traded everyone needs to wait until after next year‘s draft and trade period to reduce the turnip risk.

I don’t see the fascination with mature shitmen.

We’re going to have 12 blokes out there every week injury permitting (Corr, McKay, Hall, McDonald, Logue, Simpkin, LDU, Goldy, Cunners, Ziebell, Zurhaar, Larkey) who are all at least 5 years in at the start of 2023.

More than enough maturity spread over the field with a coach that has some idea about what he is doing.

Use them to bolster the VFL side so the kids develop quicker and they provide ok depth if injuries occur.

Oh dear, not again. 36 + 8 = 38 + 6. Exactly the same players, no extra young kids, no fewer retreads.
Mate, I don’t think you understand.

We have 8 list spots left, we’ve stated that we will be using 4 picks in the ND and 4 rookie picks for mature age rookies.

If we move Spicer to the rookie list for example, we free up 5 spots on the primary list for 5 picks in the ND but that only leaves 3 rookie spots left for mature age rookies because spicer will now be a rookie.

My whole point was in our current situation (decent young talent, minimal senior support) it’s better to take an extra mature age rookie to help support the young blokes than to free up an extra spot in the ND for an additional late pick where we take a chance on a speculative 18 year old in a weak draft.

VFL program has its own cap. Perhaps we dont want to spend most of that cap on 2 or 3 guys but rather spread that cap over a group.
Blokes like Phillips, Howe etc aren’t worth having as break in case of emergency selections.

You’re better off trying your luck with a 18-20 kid.

Just because we open up primary spots doesn't mean we need to fill them. We can still take 4 at the draft + 4 rookies and end up with 36 + 8 rookies instead of 38 + 6. Most teams don't fill their primary list, we would be better off if we didn't do it either. It isn't a radical or controversial thing to do, it's what most other teams do.

The VFL cap barely covers the gatorade the team drinks every week. You can't get the quality of player we're looking for with those resources.
Spending 3-4 rookie spots on players who'll make us better in the long run is the right idea.

Ive just decided to re watch the Collingwood game form this year.

Someone please explain to me why we delisted Jed Anderson??

Yeah better off using it on a talented kid or even a state league player under 25
There’s gold in those leagues-
Lambert, miochek ,Nic Martin ect would be better than walker or turner

Better AFL footballer than Greenwood.
Yeah I agree and I think those reasons are bullshit.

It was a stupid decision based on poor contract management. Why are about seven other players on our list and he isn't tho he's a better player and when we need mature bodies?

The Giants have four picks – No.1, 12, 18 and 19 – inside the first 20 selections and are likely to use five picks in total, while the Bombers, Eagles and Hawks are all expected to use between four and five picks. The Kangaroos, Dockers and Blues will take four picks to the draft

Brisbane has father-son pair Will Ashcroft and Jaspa Fletcher coming through the door and is likely to use three or four picks across the draft, while St Kilda, Sydney, Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs are all expected to use three selections.

Geelong could use two or three picks, while Adelaide, Melbourne, Port Adelaide and Richmond look most likely to use only two picks. Gold Coast has pick No.5 and could just use that selection or potentially one more pick.

AFL rules force clubs to use three picks at the national draft but these spots can also be filled by upgraded rookies or by clubs re-selecting delisted players if they choose.

Former Carlton defender Liam Stocker is set to train with St Kilda in a bid to resurrect his AFL career.

If he impresses, Stocker could be taken by the Saints in the supplemental selection period which allows clubs to select players without using a draft pick.
