Given what apparently happened in the Hub, perhaps some aspects of that are still lingering?

Prior to 2020 we actually had a half decent team playing reasonable footy. We’ve lost a couple of handy players since then and Cunnington is obviously a huge out, but that doesn’t explain such a monumental fall that we are seeing. Remember our early two wins in 2020? Something happened after that I reckon, which may well relate back to the hub.

Please now indulge me with the bold as I am pretty sure you have completely made that up.

Melbourne drafted Daniel Cross, Jordan Lewis and Bernie Vince to the club at or around our lowest ebb, and any Melbourne fan will be happy to tell you that they made a huge difference to the club both on and off the field. When you're losing a lot more games than your winning, it's important to have blokes on the field who you can count on to keep hitting every contest with pure desperation (Cross), to keep playing with confidence and enthusiasm (Vince), to be giving clear and strict advice to younger players who might be getting lost on the field (Lewis), and to drive standards on the training track (all of them). None of them were ever going to be part of any successful Melbourne team, but I strongly believe all of them were essential to building the solid culture that the successful Melbourne team grew from.

I don't want to be like those Richmond supporters who believe that just because their team won a premiership that it suddenly makes them an expert on how other teams can or cannot win premierships, but the parallels between North in 2022 and Melbourne in 2013 are uncanny. Both had a second year coach with a seemingly strained relationship with the players, a handful of talented young players down on confidence, and a dearth of leadership among the playing group due to retirements / players being pushed out the door in the previous couple of seasons, resulting in a completely desolate club culture and a noncompetitive team. I think the best strategy for North from this position is to identify the players on the list who can be part of a successful team in the future (and North have a decent nucleus here: JHF, LDU, Thomas, Stephenson, Larkey, McKay, Phillips, Powell etc.) and then do whatever it takes to create an environment for them where they can flourish. The first step on that path is teaching them how to be consistently competitive, even where the wins may not be coming regularly.

I understand why some would prefer to focus on just getting young talent through the door at times like this, but the fact is that the talent coming to the club through the draft and trades will take care of itself in the coming years, but I don't think young talent can amount to much unless it is given the chance to develop in an environment where certain standards of professionalism are clearly demonstrated to them, and it can be shown how it is that those standards can lead directly to success. This is exactly what premiership players like Hurn or Cotchin would bring to the team. They wouldn't just set an example to young players on and off the field, but they would also give the young players the equally important feelings of belief and hope for three reasons. Firstly, it would be a commendation of the potential of the squad (these blokes wouldn't come to the club if they believed it to be full of irredeemable losers). Secondly, they would likely improve the competitiveness of the team on-field in the short term, which can help the young players start to believe they're headed in the right direction. Thirdly, the players can see that the standards that blokes like Hurn and Cotchin drive are not merely something abstract, but that they can and will lead to tangible success, because both of those players became premiership players on the back of those standards. That's why I think they (or any other similarly qualified veterans) should be targeted strongly by North in the off-season.

Anyway, hope you all enjoyed this brief taste of my vast wisdom. If anyone would like a lecture about any other issues that might be concerning them (how to be successful in business, how to satisfy your sexual partner, how to choose the correct religion etc.) then feel free to PM me.

Dreaming if we think we’re getting Brayshaw given the narrative around our club. Doubt he’d even take our call.

Hurn is the one. Premiership skipper from well-drilled team. Our veteran leaders stink. They have little finals experience. Need a veteran behind the ball to drive the boat.
But But But people on here dont want us to become a retirement home..

He never left. That fraud phoned it in from day 1.

Probably stayed in Sydney due to covid flying restrictions but I am sure he moved around a fair bit before that. I do prefer the head of the club being here though.

Nothing in the paper today? I think this kind of thing will be a weekly Monday/Tuesday story while the review is underway. It seems easier to hold your nerve these days. Media gets bored of a "story" very quickly

We can just throw JHF at Port for Boak seeing JHF wants out, then we can throw pick 1 at Liam Shiel and PP2 at the Aints for Crouch.
I can see how the power point presentation went now, add in TT for a turd rounder with Cam as steak knives.
Then we get a late second for BMac and a late turd for Souva.

So bare with me.

Pick 1 PP
Pick 2
Pick 54
Pick 72
JHF
TT
ZUR
Souv
BMac

Turns into

Boak
Shiel
Crouch
Pick 34
Pick 37
Pick 58
Pick 69
Pick 70
And young Cooper

Lots of mid range picks to snag the next PoleCat or Mahoney or Will Walker or Liam Anthony.

Are we winning yet??

Great to hear from you Luffy , how you been since Kane Korn and his scathing attack?

We don't need bloody Shannon Hurn!

Goodness me.

Assuming medicals and whatnot are clean and we can only target one then I would be aiming for Hurn.

It's as much to do with where he plays, and how well he still plays, as it is the qualities he has as an individual.

Maybe I'm wrong but he has always seemed a relatively calm head, has seen the best and worst of Football, is a solid leader with great game sense, and his ability to organise players from the back half would be a massive boon.

if we had a second bite of the Senior Leader cherry then I think you aim for someone with more competitiveness and fire, like a Selwood.

If by some act of God we manage to get Clarko though we have to recruit Selwood just for the memes. After all the battles between Hawthorn and Geelong in their eras these two teamed up to do it once more, together.

No. Buckley and Amarfio stayed in Vic
I think its on Buckley more than Amarfio. A non footy blow in who'd been there less than a year and was brought in seemingly to work on the Arden Precinct would have done **** all to smooth things over imo. But a former club vice-captain, under Pagan no less, who was also club president would have been useful.

While the hub was on we negotiated more sponsorship deals and the lead up to this happened:

Which would have been why Amarfiosos stayed in Melbourne imo.

I would love to know what actually happened in the hub. There’s lots of innuendo but nothing concrete. WTF went down?
