Tarrant wanted a two year deal which we didn't offer.

We then did, but as pissed off (including other reasons) he left.

Tarrant we needed to keep and I have no idea what we were thinking.

Tarrant was making noise about leaving a year before he did and then we offered him the regulation one year contract for somebody in his age group (the absolute best move for veterans so we don't get stuck an extra year with current day Jack Ziebell). In desperation we offered the two, his bags were already packed and nothing could have been done to prevent it. The only glaring negative to this is we opened the door to flexibility with veterans deals.

Nah.

Yeah, pretty sure I have you covered.

Thing is weak or uneducated people is to be aggressive (like you), luckily I'm not weak or uneducated (like you)
Yes you're truly gifted sport.

You're the only person on this board capable of making the Lloyd Christmas character look like an intellectual giant.

Mr Lloyd Christmas is indeed an "intellectual giant" (whatever that means, maybe as you get your Centrelink payment they say that to you)

Because the conclusion I have reached is because our senior leadership is terrible.

I am not suggesting otherwise.

What i'm saying is I want to put faith in what we have already not look to outside options as if magically bringing in a Boak, Hurn or whoever will somehow fix us.

It won't, and will be a complete waste of time as we have the players already on our list to be the next Boak or Hurn.

Back our younger players in, clean out the leadership group, bring more young quality in, give it a few years and we will be in a much better place.
I'm not asking for a magic fix, I'd just like to see a natural, experienced leader brought in to guide this group. We're painfully thin in the leadership stakes. You can have all the talented young blokes in the world. If you don't have skilled leaders to guide them, you won't get the best out of them. Let's say there's a metaphorical set of scales where one scale represents the draft and young players, and the other one represents experienced players who provide guidance, grunt and skill. In 2016 and 2020 we tipped the scales way too far towards the draft/young players side of things, leaving the senior cupboard bare, and stranding us with a bunch of list cloggers, as we frantically filled the spots vacated by our older players. Now, this was partly brought on by our appalling drafting in the years preceding 2016, but that wasn't the only reason. Part of the reason was a catastrophic error in judgment from our list management staff. We cannot make the same mistake again, and getting an old head like Hurn will help us tip the scales back towards a state of equilibrium, imo the first step to becoming competitive again

Good post and yet I disagree.

We don't need washed up "leaders" to bring us back, rather we need more young talent and enough of bringing in Walker, Polec etc - that has put us backwards not forwards.

Stay to trusting the draft and building, getting pensioners in is not the answer.

Agree to disagree, but I believe pensioners have their place. Hopefully, regardless of the approach the club takes, it brings positive results

Tarrant one of the most overrated players in my time watching the club.

0 All-Aus
0 bnf

Was just a good player, in a terrible defence. And that period of goodness was 6 years into his career.

It’s as if some people don’t even watch the ******* games, he was regularly towelled up when we needed him. Regularly.

He was half as good as Micky and played on absolute cats in comparison.

Didn’t want to be here, left us when he could have signed. Enough rewriting history.

2016 Syd Barker medal doesn't count?

Apparently he wanted out earlier but they convinced him to stay on in 2021 for one year, but he wanted to leave at the end of 2020.

This is true. He wanted out at the end of 2020 but Brady convinced him to honour his contract. Tazz was supposedly filthy with the club after all that shit went down in the hub.
