Im ok with the Omeara trade if it is for a real late pick. Any chance this could be like a Sam Mitchell trade where they just want him off the books and will go cheap as?

Scuttlebutt is GWS will trade #19 to Hawks if they pay O'Meara
If we pay him, he should be almost free as a salary cap dump

hmm, I just don't feel JOM is a necessity. I mean, I didn't think Jackson was, but I can now see how Jackson can easily benefit us, given he's excellent at clearances and is only 20! If you're telling me Jaeger is coming in, on the relative cheap to compete for spots in the mid; then fair enough - but with a developing Ras and Johnson, PLUS hopefully a fit Fyfe with of course Jackson/Caleb/Andy and possible wing/mid rotations of guys like Aish, it feels quite well covered and balanced, especially now Jackson is locked in and could be some crazy kind of hyrid tall mid with skills a man a foot shorter should have....a starting mid with Jackson in it, not necessarily as the ruck could be the stuff of nightmares for oppos and revolutionise the way mids are used in the future (huger bodies). I don't know, that's yet to play out.

Just think JOM could be a bit...superfluous, especially given his age; but if the price is right, I guess Freo is working all this madshippery out

Maybe with Lobb leaving, the plan is that Fyfe will play predominantly forward and JOM comes in as the experienced big bodied mid…

Don’t understand the melts at all, you know there is such a thing as a side being too young and inexperienced right?

If Walls and Belly feel like JOM and Sharp can add something to our list and team then I’m going back them in that they know what they are doing over some melting supporters who think they know more then people in the industry, they haven’t lead us wrong so far.

Sharp and Omeara are far from bad additions to the list.

First, Hawks are **** and have been for most if not all of those B&F finishes.

He's borderline B22 because you only play ~6 mids and at least 3 are better than him. If you're not part of the starting mids you usually need to be able to play somewhere else which he cant.

Exactly, so next year he will (hopefully) be fitter and spend more time.

All that aside, mostly because making us slightly better is not worth the cost in either salary, draft or development time for another player. If he was an equivalent quality forward, then it makes my hair stand up. But he is a vanilla mid. A decent one no doubt, but nothing you'd bother with given the relative trajectories of our team and his career.
2018 - Hawks 4th - JOM 5th B&F
2019 - Hawks 9th - JOM 3rd B&F
2020 - Hawks 15th - JOM 8th B&F (played 12 matches!)
2021 - Hawks 14th - JOM 3rd B&F
2022 - Hawks 13th - JOM 7th B&F

Seems a decent consistent player, regardless of Hawks finishing position.

Like I said, one to look at, not chase, but stop acting like he isn't best 22. He, if nothing else is a direct Mundy replacement. Erasmus or Johnson don't start ahead of O'Meara. Whether he is what we want considering our young kids is completely different to whether he would be best 22.

Best 22 without question.

Its great being the baby Dockers with a future but I thought at the start of trade period knowing that players like Acres, Tucker, Logue and Lobb would likely be moving, as well as Mundy, that our list could do with a good experienced best 22 player from another team - otherwise its just Fyfe and Walters and a big gap to Brayshaw and Ryan that are the only 2 players to have recently clocked over 100 games. (edit OK Aish as well).

O'Meara wasn't who I had in mind - but if we can get it done, I like the move. Think I read in an article way back when he was being talked up as a 16yo future draft prospect that he was a Fremantle supporter.

I don't mind bringing in JOM especially if Hawthorn are paying part of his salary. In our losses we got bullied in the middle. Maybe he could remedy that. Maybe he'll be great depth at Peel.

Was Omeara starting in most centre bounces this year? I know they moved Tom Mitchell around to give big midfield minutes to the likes of Newcombe. Did they so same to Omeara? I didnt watch many hawk games 😅
